My Basic Hunter’s Guide - Part V

The First Shot

The first shot is the one that doesn’t happen. When the warrior engages the mob, you must wait. He’s up there Taunting and Sundering to grab aggro. With all your crit-making agility, when you smack down a 2500, the warrior has no chance to hold aggro. Patience, Chester, keep that muzzle clean.

Your first real shot should be a Delay-Over-Time, such as Serpent Sting. There are ten people in your raid; you don’t have to go all Rambo on each and every mob. Steady and sustained DPS is your goal in most situations. Go ahead and Arcane Shot when it’s ready. Watch for your DOT sting to decay and reapply when required. Multi-Shot when there’s only one mob left, just don’t be surprised if you also kill a roach, snake, or some other critter roaming around the instance.

Kiting

You’ve heard of it, but maybe you aren’t exactly sure what it means. Simply put, you’re playing tag with a mob who wants to kill you. Have you ever seen Stitches stomping around Goldshire? Wonder how he got there? Some hunter probably kited it there as a joke. Kiting involves keeping the mob at enough distance from you so it won’t hit you, but damaging it enough so that you hold aggro and it will continue to chase you.

So how do you Kite? You see a mob, you shoot it and run away. The mob will follow you and if it can’t catch you, will eventually give up and go back home. But what if before it gives up, you stop, turn, shoot it again, and continue running away from it? That’s right, Chester, the mob will continue to follow you. Repeat this sequence often enough and, theoretically, it would follow you from Booty Bay to Light’s Hope Chapel.

The best kiters can perform a Jump Shot where the hunter is running, jumps, spins 180 degrees in the air, lets off an Arcane Shot, rotates back 180 degrees, lands, and continues running. Perfect this skill and you can solo just about any mob, elite or not, that cannot heal itself. You may have Tier 3 gear, Chester, but until you can Jump Shot and Kite, you stink.

Where the Hell is the Conclusion?

I certainly hope you enjoyed this guide. More importantly, I hope you learned something. Should you happen to have a comment or an idea that would provide value, please send me a pst. And if you disagree with anything herein, go ahead and write your own guide. You’re lazy, Chester, I know you won’t do it.

This is a really useful guide to every hunter who want to learn the secrets of this beautiful class. Who say that hunter is an easy class is an idiot, guys, no way with that. Weapons, build, pet, crowd control, aggro control, pull, kite rules, make that little guide very very nice. I am a 60 night elf hunter on Burning Blade, i have been playing for long time and i can say i can play my class very well. It’s not that guide who will turn u from a poor noob into a great hunter, but it can really help. And remember, only the time can let u discover the beauty of that class, and how to become not a good hunter, but…The Hunter

not every hunter needs to kite by spin flipping in the air to get a shot off.

even though 90% of hunters seem to be jumping and spinning 180 degrees back and forth to get their shots in when kiting, an easier way is to just shoot your arcane shot and silence shot while strafing or running sideways. Claim that you can’t see the mob while strafing? Then improve your camera view with a mod or lengthen the camera distance on your interface menu. Lol, seriously… I was always too lazy to jump spin so strafing FTW!

    Dahm:

Just wanted to thank you for the great guides, and inspiration. I am new to Wow, and have never played a pet class, so your guides have been very helpful. I recently re-talented and re-equipped myself for a beastmaster tree, and the difference is huge! Me and Sparky are kickin’ some serious butt, even at level 48.

Now I just need to learn to jumpshoot and Kite…

    Thanks again,

    Bashinhammer
