Huma Asks, BRK Answers
Now we all know that BRK’s good friend Huma is Hungarian, and that English is not her native language, so all us us at the BRK Institute for International Relations and Hot Tub Testing Facility always give her big props for contributing. If BRK were asked to contribute on a non-English site, he’d probably cause an unintentional international incident. But frankly, the whole Huma comment from the previous post makes be wonder if she’s been in the Szalon Sör and having a really good time. If so, Huma, don’t forget your US friends and send us a case or two. Or three.
But let’s address a few of the more salient points of her comments, because there’s some really good stuff to talk about.
“Good Stuff”
“2300+crit, average of 4-5-700 crits around 1500″
I’m going to translate that to mean that her Aimed Shot regularly crits for 2300 damage, her Auto Shot hits for 400-700 and crits for 1500. Now remember taht this is all gear dependent. If she’s got a gun that has a fire rate of under 2.0 then this is incredible. If the rate is over 3.0 than it’s a little lower than average. Remember - providing test results with stating the test conditions is not accurate analysis.
“The mobs what I hunted fall easier qucker with about 3-4sec then before.”
I believe that Huma is/was Marksman, and it is also my experience that, unless the Marksman drops a 3000-4000 damage Aimed Shot crit, Beastmaster spec will drop most mobs significantly faster.
“Pet has +5dps [140.x]“
Now this is just the number in the pet’s character pane. It does not take into account the super-special talents like Frenzy that boost crit rate, attack speed, and total pet damage. What would be a better comparision is total-damage-over-time, as measured by Damagemeters.
“BBBBAAAADDDD stuff”
“I feel that I’m on half HP previously I had 10k, now I hardly have 7k.. Feel the difference..”
Notice the difference, sure. Feel the difference? Hmm. If you PvP, then stamina is your buddy and that 3000 health is critical, no doubt. But if you PvE and instances are your cup of tea, than stamina comes after agility, ranged attack power, and mana. In instances, you should rarely need heals and you should basically forget that you even have stamina. If you’re calling for heals, then your party is messing up. You should not be taking direct damage in an instance unless you specifically put yourself in a situation to take aggro away, and thus incur damage, from a squishy.
“Pet has a pathetic 5k hp insteead of the previous 7k”
Well, one explanation would be that before you had trained Great Stamina 11 before and something lesser after, maybe? Switching from Marksman to Beastmaster will not drop your pet’s health by 30%, period. Something is amiss.
“Too much mail gives HUGE rep bill”
This is part of your “feeling the loss of stamina” problem. Makes me wonder just how much damage you’re doing, whether you’re letting your pet or the tank hold aggro, and if you’re being forced to melee. If you’re meleeing and taking damage while soloing, we need to talk.
And if you think mail is bad for repairs, talk to your tanks. Actually, if any read this blog, they just “scoffed” in your general direction.
“I lost my mana tooo quickly..”
Well now that kinda explains more. You don’t want to convert your mana to damage at a rate greater than your tank can generate threat. Switch to Aspect of the Viper. It reduces your damage and increases your mana generation. It will allow your pet/tank to hold aggro, your will take less damage, and your repair bills will be reduced.
“Aimed shot is SOO d**n SLOW.. How may I supposed to shoot in a quick situation with that c**p?!”
You’re not suppossed to use Aimed Shot in a quick situation, period. Frankly, Aimed Shot deserves a post all its own… ok, lets do that. Stand by for more on this subject.
“Why do u use therokks quill? (by the armory) I had bigger AP with 2 one-handed (one st from durnhold and the Netherwing end-quest revard dagger)?”
Before BC, I used to run with the Dal-Rend set from UBRS. I had +15 agi on both and it provided a greater RAP bonus than anything else I could get my little hands on. I’ve been dual-wield, bought the tee-shirt.
But I like two-handed weapons, period. I like slow two-handed weapons even more. There comes a time in every hunter’s life when he grabs aggro from a dying mob and it runs up in his grill. You have two choices: get back to range or try to bring it down melee. BRK usually recommends getting to range, but in this instance, with a mob with less than 500 health, I bring out my Therokk’s Quill and it’s 3.3 attack speed and 246-370 damage. One Raptor Strike with this guy and the mob is dead, and quick.
NO! BRK is not advocating melee. What BRK does recommend is dispatching your mob quickly. In the previously described situation, Wing Clipping and getting to range takes more time than smacking down a single Raptor Strike. But if you need more than one melee hit to bring down your mob, you should’ve Wing Clipped, run and jump shot.
“The maelstorm eyepatch u were wearing (by the armory again) is better then the Beast Lord headpiece?”
Malefactor’s Eyepatch
Head, Mail
503 Armor
+30 Agility
+24 Stamina
+18 Intellect
Equip: Increases attack power by 60.
Equip: Restores 7 mana per 5 sec.
Beast Lord Helm
Head, Mail
530 Armor
+25 Agility
+21 Stamina
+22 Intellect
Red Socket
Meta Socket
Socket Bonus: 2 mana per 5 sec.
Equip: Increases attack power by 50.
The differences are slight, but not completely measureable until the sockets are filled. The Eyepatch has 90 RAP and the Helm has 75 RAP. The Eyepatch has slightly more stamina, the Helm more Intellect. Let’s put it this way; if I actually saw the Helm drop the next time I ran Mechanar - I have never seen it drop - I would ask to Need it if there were no other hunters in the party. But I would gladly pass on it to another hunter if it was a better upgrade for him.
And not just because the eyepatch looks wicked-cool like it does.

Perhaps you could make a post about how to balance choosing gear with +crit rating vs RAP and how that affects our, and our pet’s dmg output?
OooooO!!!!
That goes in the Pile of Big Post Ideas.
Thank you very much, I look forward to developing that.
Well Damh, U surprised me again. =)Really.. Before I start making a longer comment then your original entry was, let me clear things up, starting with the most important thing to me right now..
I may disappiont you (I know, this is not the first time, so sorry again) but that SHE u mention in your article my dear freind is a big -~([ HE ])~- with all the belongings of this title.. Huma is currently a lvl24 IT engineer (lvlup in this april), and has a super pretty+clever girlfriend for 5 years now.. No worries, there was no means to get this info unless I tell.. ^_^
Seconly I would like to eplain a bit what I wanted to write, and why. My biggest friend is the language, but with the grammar I’m currently “at war”, so please excuse me for any faults and mistypes.
Szalon is a brand of beer, the word “sör” itself means beer =D and I’ve never been there, though I’m close sometimes =)
“Good stuff”
yes, the 2300 was an aimed crit. the 4-500 was the auto-hits, in this part you are perfectly correct.. This was a great improvement to my previous gear / talents (well, mostly the gear) becouse previously I was hit around 200-300, and my arcane crits was around 1000 (I had no aimed)
However this was all gear dependent (I will talk yout this later, but in advance I was a BM in all my life, never changed to other specc, and before BC I never respecced) and switching to mail was the real discovery. My spec was 44/14/3 BM, with impr Arcane shot from MM) I used the fast guns before, and by he time of the respec I used the [Bloodwarder's Rifle] with it’s 2.6 speed.
To be easier to understand I post 2 pictures about my pet’s amd my damage:
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l7/HumaMage/WoW/BeforeRespeccPetstatsHawk.jpg
http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l7/HumaMage/WoW/BeforeRespeccMyStatsHawk.jpg
This is a setup how I was usually run in the wild, hunting all kind of stuff, this is how I shoot the mace out of Murmur’s hand, and crippled Kargath Bladefist..
And after respec, and putting my mails up I get this:

http://i92.photobucket.com/albums/l7/HumaMage/WoW/AfterRespeccMyStatsHawk.jpg
“I believe that Huma is/was Marksman” - Never in my life.. That 2300 crit was the biggest number I saw on my screen (after the rep bill at murmur ^_^) The reason was that with leather stuff I concentrated to +stam before everything else. I had 1000 AP, so my autoshots and so my crits was significally smaller.. I used things like [Chain of Glowing Thendrils] [Leggings of the Unending Assault] and my personal favorite: [Grim Syte of the Bear] Why? Becouse I loved the 9.3k hp and the low repair bills (usually around 3-5g daily)
I don’t use damagemeters. Becouse I play via cellphone internet connection.. I know, thats soo cr**py, and soo eastern, but with this I can play basically anywhere, and has other adventages too, but basically I minimalized the number of addons I use, becouse of the bandwidth.. Anyway, I usually show the bare hawk + ooc shot, becouse this is how I start a combat.. this will be bigger in a few secs, but this is the basic. showing the damage I have for 5-8sec is pointless to me..
“Bad stuff”
Yes I was talking about that situation too.. There are some bosses who cast spells on RANDOM targets, and if I get a crit from that I die like a paper dragon in a rain of fire.. But with 10k hp I had no problems like that.. I could stand easily after a 4-6k crit, I did’n died after a misfortunate jump / fall, and I used it to farm 4-6mobs at a time in Nagrand.. 2-3 n the pet, 1 is in ice cube, 1-2 is on me.. U can’t do this with 6khp for a long time, but with this I basically had very little downtime, and I was really efficient.
Aggro problem.. Yes, a big thanks for showing me my other error.. I wanted to use the Aimed as a member of my circle of shoots, and I used it as an opener in almost every situations.. And some other times in combat also.. this was the reason why my mana was burnt that quickly.. Bahhhh.. lame me.. =)
About the gear again.. I have the Beast lord head, and I strongly agree, that piece of s**t is soo ugly, like.. well.. I can only compare to the T5, which also a cr**p design, and I’ll never use it even if I’ll have the chance to get it, I’ll pass on it.. No man.. No matter what u say, rift stalker set is something what u will NEVER see on me.. Never..
So I can put back my sweet icy-enchanted Scyte?? Plz say yes.. ^_^
I have [Netherstorm Eyepatch] (and ofc Malefacor’s, and Beast lord too) Your opinion?
After all I want to thank you again to take the time to answer to my comment, and helped me to improve myself.. =D
H.
“with all the belongings of this title” BRK give +5 cool points for that statement.
Your command of the English language is formidable; please never think we are anything but impressed.
If you love stamina, BRK isn’t going to argue against you. Too much.
You may not use the icy enchant. Sorry, but get the +agi like you’re supposed to.
Before I comment on everything, please take a look at your Humata before/after pics. I know you changed your gear and your spec, but I cannot see the Base Stats in the before pic. Also:
In the before pic, you’re wielding a 2h axe. In the after pic, you’re duel-wielding daggers.
In the before pic, you’re equiping a riding crop trinket. In the after pic, you’re equipping a +attack power trinket.
We at BRK would love to see your before and after using either one weapon or the others, but mixed doesn’t cut the cake.
Beastlord if you’ve got some nice gems in it is probably better, but if you put spell damage or something silly in there, BRK retains the right to change his mind.
Oh my! I get BRK cool ponts. ^_^ Do u have a list of some kind about the points, U gave here? A ladder perhaps =) I’m making progress, eh? [means: Thank you :]
Soooo.. If I understand correctly, you are aginst the enchant only.. if I put a +agi ench. to my scyte, I can re-equip that? Thats soooo cute.. So the icy enchant.. I’ve choosen this, becouse with fiery, (my friend said) I would look like a hot-headed day-labourer.. =)
Sorry about the pics, but what is done is done, I can only submit a pictures with my current spec, with my old and new gear, so you can analyze the difference between 10k-hp-farming-leather gear and working-as-intended-hunter gear.. Shall I post it?
