I'm your basic huntard, absolutely no group skills so far, but I naturally chose pretty much the same shot rotation while grinding. My only difference is I loot and skin while my pet is attacking the next target and gathering agro.
So my first macro is the same:

/petattack
/cast Hunter's Mark

And after I skin and loot the previous kill, the next one is

/assist pet
/cast Serpent Sting

That way I don't have to reacquire the target which is annoying and can sometimes be hard when the pet is in the way.

Ok just throwing this out there since the release of the patch and the improvement of all our shots...ok this is my shot rotation i use the hunters mark macro that is posted above (works well i suggest this to all hunter's i meet). Ok about 1 sec before my kitty gets to the target i start casting aimed shot...i have a threat meter and watch it...i also always always always growl and claw as soon as kitty gets to target and i spam claw throughout fight...now as soon as aimed shot gets off i SS then concussive then steady then back to arcane and stay here with rotation b/w arcane and auto...the only time i change this is when dealing with multiple targets i don't aimed shot the second target (unless he's a healer or is being healed) this is b/c it takes too long to do this and it kills dps numbers...now yes there's a high probabilty that i'll crit with aimed shot and at current lvl with current gear that's newhere from 1300-2000ish dmg at a time which i know greatly increases my threat...now that same crit procs kill command and that gets used which increases my pets threat which is normally enough if not what do i do?? pop an SS into the target and feign death...this completly erases my threat and is still damaging my target. takes just a second to do and get back up and on target...now my DPS does suffer a little bit from this...but not tremendously... My normal DPS (now keep in mind this is a 69 hunter with mostly green quest reward crap and a 41/19/0 build so far) is 400-450...normal high w/out popping enrage trinkets etc is 650-700...if i have to FD during a mob fight i might see my dps numbers drop 25 or so which doesn't effect me...now also keep in mind this is my PVE shot rotation not PVP...PVP i hardly ever get to actually use aimed shot unless i stun them or get them in and icetrap...but this doesn't happen often cause players are smart unlike MOST mobs....

Personally I use a Boar for Grinding. Your pet can hugely influence your shot rotation. After my pet has charged I can quite happily start with an Aimed shot. Even if I crit for over 3k he won't lose agro.

I would definitely recommend a Boar for grinding. Their threat generation is massive and virtually instant.

Also on the Multi-Shot aspect. (When grinding) I don't think that Multi-Shot is (a) Cost Effective (b) in BM spec is not that powerful either. Even in an instance on fights you are better of in my opinion using a Sting first (Maximum time available for the 555 damage is dot's) Arcane, Steady rotation (Allowing for the Auto in between to go off for added DPS.

Debatable topic imo (duhh).
I believe in a raid/group it is much better to incorparate steady shot when ever possible.
With the Zhunter mod casting timer on auto shot you can time it perfectly to maximise dps and it doesnt cost much mana.
Also you should have plenty of water in instances so drinking in between is no problem.
But what if you want a quick run? Duhh AotV at all times.

From my experience incorparating steady shot into my rotations has worked a treat. I also refraim from using SS on trash mobs because its alot of mana for the damage compared to your other abilities which scale with your AP.

In solo grinding but, i dont use steady shot often at all cause arcane and multi hit hard enough to kill the mobs without the mana loss of all the extra steadies out there.

Awell just my 2 cents enjoy playing hunters!!

Forgive my ignorance, but if you're questing solo and your pet is attacking one mob, why would you use multishot? If there are no other mobs around, isn't it a waste of mana? And if there ARE other mobs around, aren't you going to pull the ones your pet isn't attacking?

Second that on KLHThreatMeter, lets you know just when you're about to tip the scales and send that mob right over so you can Conc shot and let your pet trail attack to pick the threat back up.

http://wow-en.curse-gaming.com/downloads/details/4204/

Multishot?
First get a distance add on. They are based on what skill will work so the accuracy is not perfect. Learn to judge the distance from a mob - harder than it seems because many mobs share the same skins but scale up or down. Makes visual distance judging more art than science.
Second, practice getting at max range.
Third start using multishot whenever you are at max range and there is nothing closer you don't want to hit (the sheep is further than your target).
Fourth turn to the side and see how wide your "cone of fire" is with multishot. It will not shoot behind you but it will fire a wide area in front. This is a more difficult shot, practice turning enough to hit your mob but not aggro ones near it.
With practice you can multishot all the time if the other CC mobs are further away. If you try to turn far enough you will occasionally tag side mobs. NP, just be sure your freezing trap is down in front of the clothies first.

Cool.

I had a different rotation till now.. I used multi only when i was 100% not to hit anything else, or if I hit, they are already aggroed enough not to turn on me..

I used conc. + steady.. thats a 5-600dmg shot, what can be fired quite effectively..

May I have 1 question? It's about the misdir. If I hit a mob with misdir, and it aggroes another while running the aggroed mobes will go to the tank too? or just the misdirred one? same with the multishot, but I guess, thats obvious.. if I hit 3 mobs with 1 shot, they will be all agroed to the tank.

Interestink! I highly recommend the use of KLHTThreatMeter for managing threat between yourself and your pet. Once I've sent Snowfyre in I let him build up at least 1000 threat before I start firing. You can do it with mojo of course if you've got it but I find actual numbers on the screen so reassuring.

So I love my mods (I run many) and as an aside recommend Venantes to hunters everywhere (hunter version of Necrosis) although it can be a wee bit greedy resourcewise.

Macros I don't use and have been meaning to for some time. /me looks down meaningfully at the macro guide she printed from Allakhazam.

So some excellent points re shot rotation - and I agree it of course comes down to what you are fighting and where. I'm intrigued by your comments re multi-shot - post on the details please :)

I'm beginning to think I don't know how to play my hunter as well as I thought.... :P

~ Jezrael
