Mechanar Eats Legendary Boot

Beastmaster Hunter, Arcane/Frost Mage (I think, he changes specs daily), Feral Druid (thank Elune she’s Feral again; if she goes Resto one more time…), 29/21/11 Warlock, (I don’t know what to call that other than the Sacrificer), and our pug Holy Pally we’ve outfitted almost from head to toe on previous runs with her. We descended upon Mechanar knowing full well we didn’t know much, and also knowing we didn’t care. It wasn’t Shadow Labs!

Right at the start, we didn’t position properly and aggro’d two more 72 elites than we planned for, but after that, it was Cake City, population Us. First boss down, no problems. And what drops? Of course, a Healing Mace. Yup, if you’re a healer on Madoran and want phat loot, run a pug with Legendary; we cause more healing stuff to drop for our pug healers than anybody; we have an evil gift for it. Pfft.

Next boss is the chick with the fire elementals. She’s not hard, but those elementals are a beyotch. Banish? Nope. Frost Trap? Nope. Kite? Holy bat dung BRK tried, but they don’t follow the typical aggro-rules; I couldn’t pull them off to save our tank’s or healer’s life. Several times, in fact. Once we decided to just stay out of the fire and concentrate dps on the boss did we take her down.

And praise Elune, healer plate didn’t drop. Bizarrely, an item BRK could use was looted. I’m sure this will be fixed in the next patch.

BRK has nothing against dual-wielding, even though he prefers his 2h polearms. If we can find a suitable partner for this axe, (Hey Ironbelly! hint hint!), we may take it out of the bank and enchant it up.

The tunnel to the third boss was a pain in the… but we slogged our way through it. Nothing terribly difficult, just a new encounter and we were learning and died some. What was funny was when the final boss appeared and we were totally unprepared for it; we wiped hard.

But we picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves off and tried again.

And we wiped hard.

OK, after some research we knew to kill the spawns before they killed us, and we kept that up on the next try… until we all ran out of mana and the boss was still alive.

And we wiped hard.

The final modification was to keep BRK dps’ing the boss while the warlock feared and the mage froze the spawns to keep them from killing us. It worked like a charm and *thud* down he went.

Yes, tanking gear and a toaster dropped, (BRK gives a Kitty-Middle-Finger to the @sshats in charge). Sure, the Pally can have the tanking gear. Sigh. Thanks for running with us and letting us outfit your guild. It was a pleasure.

But wait a minute. What the bleeping heck is that toaster?

Um. Yeah. That’s kinda nice. BRK wants that. Gonna delve into the Lord of the Rings and call it Precious. OMG we want that.

But BRK already has a blue from this run. And he’s the GM and must set an example… oh the agony.

* click push-to-talk *
Lui, go ahead, I already got a blue”

* release push-to-talk *
OMG I WANT THAT OMGNOOOO! I cannot believe I’m gonna pass on that. Gonna be sick, I just know it.

* click push-to-talk *
“Yes I know you’re mostly bear-form, not cat-form, but I already got something and I can’t be that greedy. Go ahead, take it.”

* release push-to-talk *
Oh NO! I’m not gonna get it. WAAAAAAHHH!

Then, out of the kindness of her warm, caring heart, she asks to roll for it. And drops a 13. BRK slams down a 99 and the joy radiates from our soul, our happiness knowing no earthly bounds.

* click push-to-talk *
“That was really nice, Lui, thank you. I can so use that.”

* release push-to-talk *
YEAH BABY! New Trinket for Daddy! WooT!!

So now that we know how the whole place works, we can do the “Skip the Second Boss” strategy and use Hobbes to bring her all the way though the tunnel, outrunning her elemental adds. I cannot wait!

You tell me, what is more exciting than taking on a new instance, fighting and slogging through it, killing everything, and getting loot you can actually use.

In BRK’s opinion, it’s the just the best.

    Hey Damh, I have a couple tips for the second boss in Mech.
    The elemental aggro is completely random, so when someone gets aggro it should be called out on Vent who has each elementals aggro (sometimes one person has both) and that person kites the elemental(s) in a circle on each side of the room making sure to keep the trail of fire away from the main group. After about 10-15 seconds of kiting the elemental will stop and cast an AoE (cant recall what its called atm). Once this goes off the elemental randomnly chooses another target. The tricky part is when the tank gets aggro, but it’s not hard to heal him/her through it.

    Hope this helps.

    Not *everybody* got something to use in there, but it was fun..

    Thanks, Misfit, that certainly does help confirm what our wipes hinted at. :)
