I just recently tamed a new pet and since when have they changed it that you can only name it once? I’m the type who has long term pets, so I’m not in the business of getting new ones, but i could have sworn you could rename them over and over.
actually never. you were never able to rename pets.
this has to be impossible, because i can remember renaming countless pets about a year or so ago.
Sorry your wrong. Maybe your thinking of a different game. I have been playing since 9-05. Never could rename a pet.

I’ve played since the introduction of hunters in beta…. You’ve never been able to rename a pet once you named it.

I have been playing hunters since year 1 as well, and i just called a friend who has an old hunter and he ALSO corroborated with me that he recalls being able to rename a pet more than once. I don’t know if you’ve tried it, but i can distinctly remember having fun with an OLD guild of mine and a tallstrider, making fun of the names i was giving it. Seriously, does ANYONE else here remember being able to do this?

I remember back when I was shaping the first wheel out of bedrock from the wall of my cave, even then I couldn’t rename my pet.
I have to be going crazy then, because i could SWEAR I’ve done it on a few pets, even this 1 instance with some guild friends….. WOW.
I have played WOW since the day it hit the store shelves. You have NEVER been able to rename a Hunter pet once named. NEVER. I found this out the hard way on DAY 1.
i remember creating the earth and sky, and i wouldn’t even allow myself to rename pets then.
Now call me crazy. But doesn’t a box appear when you name your pet saying something like: “are you sure this is what you want to name your pet. since you can only name a pet once.”
You are all wrong, Yes you could change the name. In the same way I remember being able to hide inside trees, pass through walls and log out / log in and still be alive when I was about to die.
AGAIN, just asked another old friend of mine from warsong, he TOO says you use to be able to change your pets name…… Whats funny is that i’m being ZERGED by self-proclaimed b@dasses who say they’ve been playing since the BEGINNING!

What I’m wondering is, HOW have none of you EVER tried to change it! You haven’t, because if you had, you would know that you use to be able to a really really long time ago WITHOUT using any tricks/exploits whatever!

Hunter pets have never had a rename option. Possibly what you and your friend recall is the script that could be used to “rename” warlock pets . . . in essence you got resummon said pet you didn’t like and got a new one, over and over, until you had a name you liked. It only worked on warlock pets though. That’s the only renaming bug/exploit/whatever I can think of.
alright sorry about that, BUT everyone is busting out the I’ve been playing before there were computers’! and they’re wrong! I’m telling you it was possible!
I thought of this too. However, while I won’t say it was NEVER possible, I can say with 100% accuracy that I’VE never been able to do it, and I have played this hunter for 2.5 years. So, within my own knowledge, no, you can’t name a pet more than once.
My first hunter was made in April 2006. I recall being unable to rename my pet after typing the pet name.
I’ve been playing since my days as a fetus, and you have never been able to rename your pet.
I rename my pet all the time…NOW. I take a marker and a post it note, and stickie to my screen. upper left hand corner.

My question for you Damh is have you ever tried to rename your pet prior to this trolling?
I have been playing a hunter since before the Big Bang. You have never been able to rename your pet.

This reminds me of a conversation I saw on the looking for group channel one day. Some hunter was bitching about the BM tree, and so someone suggested that he just respec if he didn’t like it. His response? “I don’t have another two years to level this toon back up”

Reminds me of a guy from work I play with. He got his rogue to about level 45-50 and couldn’t figure out why his damage sucked. Never knew about the talent tree.
a friend of my nephews got his toon to 30 and they were talking one day and he asked what the yellow ! were over the heads of the NPCs he made it to 30 by doing nothing but grinding

I’ve only been playing since October 2006, and since then I know you can’t rename a pet! I’ve tried. When I first named my cat I spelled the name wrong, so I tried to rename it. Didn’t work! So I did the next best thing, I abandoned it and re-tamed another cat.
As for the brain-dead players out there. I’ve ran into a few. The one that stands out the most was a lvl 45 NE Druid in Tanaris. He kept asking me how he could get a pet like mine? I told him it was real easy, go re-roll a Hunter and get your pet at lvl 10! Then he said the stupidest thing in the world. So if I get a pet with my hunter can i transfer it to my druid… hmmm NO! And give the account back to whoever you bought it from!
Only one other time have I ran into someone who didn’t deserve their acct. A lvl 62 Pally the other day was in Westfall tryin to get together a party for Deadmines!!! WTH? So I whispered them and asked, “Why Deadmines, aren’t you a little high for it?” Their response was that they’ve never done it before, and didn’t know what to expect! hmmmm purchased acct!
Wow… I haven’t seen anything that bad yet. I did have a group for Underbog where, when I asked what spec the other hunter was, he responded “Shooter” and asked “What is DPS?” when I asked him if they needed another DPS for his group (before joining). I managed to notice the talent tree and quests very early, but it did take a while before I learned about pets being trained to learn non-trainer skills.
Last night I was playing my priest that’s on Madoran, and an 11 warrior started talking to me, asking if the priest was my main. The warrior mentioned that her main was a 36 gnome, but DIDN’T KNOW WHAT CLASS it was.
Also, Damh, I’m loving your AH. Everything I put on there is sold crazy fast.
Well, if it was herbs, it was probably being bought by me. o.O Spent a fortune last night trying to get a group geared up potion-wise for an instance we failed at the night before.

I asked a GM if he can change the name of my pet since I didn’t like it. He was able to change it to what I wanted.
