BRK Is Looking for an Argument

BRK » 12 April 2007 » In Classes »

A Warcraft argument. Now, we’re not talking about forum trolls and “your mama” rebuttals, we want to talk about classic knocking of heads, deeply held beliefs being challenged and overturned, and people so mad they throw their computers out the window and into the pool.

At one point there was the Protection Warrior vs Feral Druid tanking argument that made many warriors just up and quit WoW. The competing factions were so vitriolic and so adamant in their positions, the rest of us just stared in wild wonder at the beauty of it all. Has anything topped that war, before or since? It was wonderful, and BRK kinda misses the first day of WoW 2.0 when the #1 dps warrior in our guild basically tried out his new Fury spec, then sat down in the EPL and cried at the horror of his rage-nerf.

Nowadays, there are some clearly colossal disagreements among the healing classes. The Priest/Paladin/RestoDruid battles are pretty intense. Shadow Priests seem to really get a lot of people upset; they’re sometimes called a better hybrid class than the two hybrid classes. Our buddy at PaladinSucks.com has some true feelings on the squishy healers,

“I love it when Priests refer themselves to as primary healer in an effort of trying to make sure that there is only one best healing class in the game - themselves, that is.”

And that’s what we’re interested in today: who frosts your biscuits, puts pepperoni in your oatmeal, shaves your cat, leaves his twice-skidmarked undies in your pink-sachetted hamper?

Of course, BRK is very familiar with the Beastmaster vs. Marksman “pleasantries”; heck, we’ve contributed to them in fascinating detail and with great personal satisfaction.

But who else is getting yelled at?

A Rogue without Improved Sap is looked at strangely in instances, but BRK feels they’re much more deadly than before in PvP. They seem to be pretty balanced. Are the rogues up in arms about another class?

Hey Vending Machines? Is anybody putting a crimp in the mages’ style? Who do you guys want nerfed? And I don’t mean the goobers who beg for food/water/ports for free; we get that.

Warlocks are mad at everybody; that’s just their style, and BRK accepts this. But who are they torturing in effigy? You guys got a story to share about a class that ticks you off?

Alliance Shaman, are you getting a fair deal? BRK has been in a pug with a 70 shaman, but hadn’t a clue how best to use him. Is that typical, and does that get make you madder than when you crashed your spaceship?

Horde Paladins, same deal. Do the Tauren and Undead have a place for you in their parties, or are you being left back in Undercity, listening to the Lady singing?

Let it loose, people. BRK wants some ammo.

you are correct, rogues are very very well balanced right now. generally, you are correct; any rogue without imp sap is just not paying attention to the reason why blizz moved it up to the second tree and made the 2/2 point version 100% effective. if you want to be worth your dps in any lvl 70 5-man, imp sap is just a no brainer.

further, a good or even decent rogue shouldnt be comparing himself to any other classes. our dps is better than ever, especially if you know how to maximize your talent trees around one of the three 41 point talents. yes, hunters, mages, and warlocks will see max crits of 5k plus that you could never dream of…but they will never, EVER experience the joys of effective stun locking.

if i could ask blizz for anything at all, id want a summon. thats right, a summon. just like the druid treants. except i want shadowclones. three semi-shade clones of myself…each with 1/3 of my total health, and dps that will fight along with me. this would cost no less than 80 energy, and would be on a 10 minute cooldown. either that or give us a version of battle shout that increases total agility for 2 minutes…well call it, sinister shout.

other than that, rogues kick ass and any rogue who complains about his class whatsoever should /deletetoon and retire from WoW.

    thank you

I’m a little frustated with PUG Hybrids. I’m trying to do the 65-68 dungeons right now (MT, AC, Durnholde, Sethekk) but we keep having issues with hybrids joining up. Last night, I (BM Hunter) was with a rogue guildie and an enhancement shaman. So of course, we were still needing both a tank and a healer. A pally joined, which I thought would be great since he was surely one of those two, but it turned out that his spec was all spread out and was really only suited to off-healing and off-tanking, which means we still needed a healer and tank and had only one spot remaining.

I understand that some specs may be better for levelling and poorly suited to 5-mans, but seriously…. we had to drop a paladin because we needed a tank and healer (which we never found) when he could have easily been either if he had wanted to. I feel like saying “It’s great to have you! What exactly are you hoping to contribute?!” We have only a handful of guildies in in 65+ range, and not enough to produce a balanced group. Until we get them, I’m afraid I’ll be spending a lot of time on the general begging for certain classes and whispering things like “No, sry… we don’t need another hunter” or “Hi! We’re trying to put a group together for xxx. Do you happen to be yyy spec and interested in running it with us?” :/

The thing I find most annoying is all these rogues who cannot pick a lock to save their life. It seems every time we find a locked chest the rogue cannot open it ( which costs me at least one gold every time even if I lose the roll ), or when in an instance like Shattered Halls you have to waste your time with the oozes because the rogue cannot pick the door. I know rogues are good DPS but come on, you have the pick lock skill so use it please.

+5 BRK Cool Points to Azerick. Man, if BRK hasn’t had to deal with this in his own guild.

i dont have a problem with any class as long as they know how to play them…

i have been in groups with holy spec pallys that think they can tank better than the prot spec warrior and i have been in groups were the holy spec pally can tank better than the prot spec warrior…

if you roll a class learn how to play it…its not that hard but one thing i will say is for my hunter i have a good build thanks to BRK but for my 50 mage, 62 pally, 39 priest and 46 warrior i havent found a BRW or a BRPr or BRPa and the forums dont tell you much but i will keep looking…

Our beloved water vendors are currently up to their old tricks, whining on how they are not dealing damage. Shadow priests and warlocks are the obvious targets for their enemity, but my personal beef is with Elemental shamans.

Frost spec gets +5% damage with Arctic Winds at 2.1.0, so I might have to STFU until it hits the European PTRs.

As for bubbleboys.. 5-man and Karazhan pally tanking isn’t bad, Shadow Priest + Holy pally is scarily efficient. Blessing of Salvation and Blessing of Wisdom make those days of worrying about mana efficiency or threat management seem like a bad dream. A mage that pulls aggro or goes OOM is now definitely worth of a /lol.

I have no irks with any specific class, per se. I do, however, have issues with people who tell me how to play my class. For example: I’ve got a raid leader in my guild who does not have a druid, but yet will tell me exactly how to play my druid. He’s also requested that I change my spec, or I won’t be running high level instances with the guild. I believe I chose my spec for a reason, and it fits with my playstyle, I shouldn’t be told how to play, especially in a casual guild setting.
Other things I dislike are people who whisper you for gold… but that’s a different topic entirely…

If I need to name a class that would be paladins (as an N M Y) Becouse they are really hard for me to kill.. I’m also angry a bit to druids, becouse they get a free flight form, (though I laugh on the small-dove-form, they get :-)) I also don’t really like the stunlocking rouges and the 3k pyro/etc mages, and the SPriests,

Basically the problem is not with hte classes, but the PPL who play them.. In our realm they just LOVE to sneak on you while farming/questing, and usually attack when u r fighting with something else, and by the time u ran back to ur corpse, they ofc, disappear.. ~.~

I aso find it a bit fustrating that I can’t tell the opposing fraction my opinion, (Why do I have an active skill for languages, if I can’t train them?)

Anyway, I know that there are jerks on all server, and all side, but they anger me mer then any goldselling/powerlvl advertiser ever..

To show U what I’m taking about let me show u 1 picture from a quite Thuesday afternoon on our server, near Kara..:

Thanks to Kelektra for reminding me of that!! I was running Mana-Tombs the other day with a pug and the tank was doing a pretty lame job. I kept pulling agro, so I started just letting it happen and then kiting the mob as the rest of the group burned him down. I start seeing “Disengage” on the party channel from some pally and then he starts to whisper me during fights to use Disengage. Despite the fact that I have to get back into melee range of these elites to disengage, the pally kept telling me to do it. I finally just told him that I know quite well how to deal with my agro. He said he 3 level 70 hunters. I almost asked for their names, but decided just to drop it….

Besides… I change weapons whenever I find a new one that increases my total crit and/or attack power, which means I change weapons a lot. Since I never do melee, my melee weapon skills with the two I was using (an Axe and fist weapon) were embarassingly low. I probably would have just missed the mob anyway, leaving me in the danger zone. :/

I just read the new patch notes. I would never steal BRK’s thunder, so I’ll wait for the upcoming post. I’m very VERY very happy. :)

I don’t mind “tips” or “suggestions” about playing my class, however it must come with this understanding:
Playing a class to 60+ probably means I learned some things along the way. Give me some credit (unless the ebay stamp is floating above my head).

‘Locks have problems when they don’t pay attention… Sometimes… Maybe…
Actually, they’re pretty balance in beating everyone..

My biggest gripe is the poor smack across the head non-shadow priest got. I’ve found no good senario where I’d rather have a holy/disc priest over a holy pally.
The only reason they beat druids is because they can rez more often… It’s sad, sad, sad truth…

  12. Leksi on April 13th, 2007 12:52 pm

    Borrodir,

I have a comment I want you to share with that Pally (since my main is a Kara Super-Healing Machine, yes it’s a Pally too).

Tell them: “I know your pally may be different then others but I also know for a fact that it comes with Greater Blessing of Salvation”. If any paladin getting into the higher level 5-mans is not using Blessing of Salvation on everyone but the main tank they really need to be shot becasue they’re making the job harder for the entire party.

When would you ever want to tell someone to hold off on DPS because it will aggro onto you when you have a Pally along? (Yes, I know some boss’s have no aggro control, I’m talking about the ones that do.) I’ve had countless tells to me from mages, locks, rogues and hunters saying “Can I have Kings please?” because they want to be tops on the DPS charts. I instantly give them Kings and whisper the tank with “When those idiots pull aggro don’t rush to pick it up. Let them die and eat the repair bill, I’ll take care of them after they die” So, the next pull will come along, they will pull aggro and the tank will let them have their face mashed in. We all say “I told you so” and I give them salvation and move on. Lesson learned…

  13. Borrodir on April 13th, 2007 1:20 pm

    Leksi,

Thanks for the advice! I rolled a pally with a RL friend and we’re levelling together when we get the time, but we’re only in the teens. I hadn’t looked at all the Blessings. I’m usually given Might, which seemed cool until I now hear about salvation :/ Next time a pally gives me suggestions about how to deal with my agro, he’d better pray that he’s already given me Salvation.

  14. Crystalis on April 13th, 2007 2:31 pm

Dunno that I’m really “mad” at anyone, per se. But then, I’m the type of person who plays a “gimped” build if it’s more fun than the optimal one.

The only class that really irritates me when played poorly is my own, because man, didn’t they walk the same road I did? If so, how come I rule and they suck?

    Anyway, I say nerf everyone.

  15. Anonymous on April 13th, 2007 3:20 pm

One problem priest healers face occurred to me as I inspected a 70 Shammy by the Org mailbox. The shoulders were cloth, to my initial surprise. Then it was like, oh, resto shammy. Then the problem became obvious…

Blizz seems pretty much to have originally designed it as priests = main healer.
But especially with the gear available in the Outland, it’s a no-brainer that pally healers have an advantage.
    Why?
Because holy priests get to roll on cloth only.
Pally healers can roll on cloth, leather, mail, and plate.

Now I don’t mean that as “pallies are rolling against priests”. What I mean is that pallies can wear anything, while priests can wear cloth (which they already split with mages and ‘locks). That means that pallies have a much wider array of options to choose from, and if they are running as main healer in a 5-man, they will be able to pretty much roll on +heal anything. And ISTM that there is more pally gear in Outland than Azeroth by a large margin.

    Something to chew on…

  16. Leksi on April 13th, 2007 4:29 pm

    To Anonymous above…

If a Pally along with you rolls on cloth or leather healing gear they should just re-roll Priest or Resto Druid. I personally thing it’s STUPID, yes STUPID to outfit a Paladin in cloth. What do you gain from it aside from more +healing? Nothi…let me take that back, you gain the ability to be 1 shot because you sacraficed your armor. GG now run back from the graveyard. Paladins are superior to Priests as main healers because we can take more then 1 or 2 shots from an elite in the Outlands instances. FACT.

BRK can attest that as a Beast Spec why would you wear cloth or leather armor over mail? I’ve read his rants, I’m sure you have too. Same theory fits with any other class (Warriors and Pallies) that can wear plate. They can wear it because they’re INTENDED to wear it.

Priests are not gimped btw…just had to throw that one out. We can argue…er, discuss taht one later :)

Frost spec gets +5% damage with Arctic Winds at 2.1.0

I’m glad I read that, I was just about to spew out some gold to respec because I took this horrible talent.

My main WoW beef is with the developers for not adding more fluff, such as hair dyes, guild halls, rare items, more trinkets with aesthetic uses, etc…
It seems the majority of content is focused on gear.

  18. kelektra on April 13th, 2007 9:44 pm

    agreed, keystone :)

Yeah sure the last post was in April and its what? …almost October already? I may be a little slow, but better late than never right?

I play a 70 deep fire mage with my BM hunter wife (who just happens to be the coolest NE gun bunny ever), Prot Pally son, Holy Priest daughter and Warrior son in law who changes specs as often as he changes his warrior plate undies. Needless to say we have a good 5 man group with out having to PUG…ever. (I haven’t been in a PUG since my mid 50s.

Anywho, I think I’m pretty fair with my vending machine duties. If someone asks how much it costs for a port, I give them the cost of my mats and anything more is up to them. I’ll make a stack of food free…what does it cost me? The push of a button? But when someone asks me for 200 food and 200 water, I won’t be pushy, but thats quite a few button clicks out of my WoW time just for you. Like the others, I don’t have a problem with any class, it’s the people behind the class that I can’t stand sometimes.

BTW, If anyone knows of a BRK site for mages, I would love to see it!

Thanks for making me laugh at work BRK and give a /pat to Hobbes for me

Oh and what addon do you use for giving you the stats change on items your looking at?
