The Ballad of BRK

BRK » 13 April 2007 » In Blog »

Come and listen to a story ’bout a Hunter named Damh
Poor dwarven man who kept a funny blog
Then one day he was writin’ down a post
And up through the ether came a funny little note

(Email that is, electronic gold, Silicon Valley tea)

Well the first thing you know old Damh’s got a pst
They folks at the end said, “You’re gonna get paid for this!”
Said, “
WoWInsider is the place you’re oughta be!”
So he loaded up BRK and went for a looksie

(WoWInsider.com that is, murloc pools, blogging stars)

Well it’s not time to say goodbye to our blogger space
We’re gonna write here too, just daily not the case
You’re all invited back again to this locality
To have a heaping helping of Damh’s hospitality

(WoWInsider Blogger, that’s what they gonna call me now,
Nice folks there, but Y’ll come back now, ya here?)

So what insanity is this? Well gentle readers, BRK has been requested to become a blogger at WoWInsider. As soon as we sign our contract, we’ll be developing content for publication (and Phat Loot!)

Of course, the length of time between the ink drying and the beatings commencing shall probably be negligible. Editorial control, rabid spelling fanatics, grammar police…

Goodness, if my editor is a Horde Priest, we might have killed him one or two hundred times. That would be Bad for BRK Business, wouldn’t it. Oh dear.

Now BRK has three (yes three!) posts in Draft Mode. Whether they will be published here or on WoWInsider (The Best Warcraft Blogging Site in the Universe!) it remains to be seen.

We’re all up in the air here; please give us a little time to recover. We have to find a moving van, clean out the closets, donate our old clothes to the Stormwind Orphanage, find out if the Blood of Our Enemies has to be removed from the carpet or it’s allowed under our lease… all the typical pre-move events.

We want to take a quick opportunity to thank the people who read BRK. We are averaging over 1000 unique hits per day, and that boggles our minds. If the world economy takes a plunge this quarter, I think the World Bank might come a’knocking, looking for answers.

But we want to especially show our appreciation to those who comment. If you’re new here, take a look at the comments. They are impassioned, articulate, intelligent, and creative. Nothing makes us more proud of this blog than our friends.

Thanks to you all.

    Woot!

    Congratulations, Damh and Hobbes!

I’ll just have to start flipping back and forth between BRK and WoWInsider to see what you have going on. :)

    You’ll be missed.
*tosses Damh some sporeling snacks for Hobbes during the trip

Congrats man I hope you get what you want from the contract :) I will have to keep checking here from work since the airforce in all the infinate wisdom blocks wow insider but not BRK, but at home it is all fair game

I’m in the same boat as azerick, but congratulations nonetheless.

Gratz man, and I look forward to seeing what you offer to the wider audience. And don’t worry about the guaranteed Hunter-Hate that you will face at WoWInsider, I got your back.

Damn I’m kinda glad that I checked this while on vacation! Well Damh, congrats! Moving up in the world. Once I get back to work I’ll have to check out WoW Insider and see what all you’ve posted there (or you could leave some links on BRK to your posts there *wink* would make it alot easier)

I have to agree with Misfit, you will be seein gtons of Hunter-Hate flowing through WoW Insider. But nothing that hasn’t been said before a hundred times or will be said a hundred more.

Especially after patch 2.1.0 i read what WoW Insider had to say on it and DAMN, a HoT for hunter’s pets… WOOT

Take it easy and I’ll be on Beevo as soon as I get back. Gotta go now the wifey’s giveing me the evil eye!

One of the points of negotiation is “may i post my WoWinsider blogs on BRK too”. I am gonna guess the answer will be No. However, I may get to “archive” them here, maybe after 30 days on the WoWInsider site, I don’t know.

As we said, it’s all up in the air.

We have our BRK’s Take on the 2.1 Hunter Changes, and would love to post em. But we may need that content for the New Job. If we get nothing done before before the weekend, then it will go up, regardless.

Feeling the pain of the at-work blockage, I’ll share a secret I found with my fellow readers. After weeks of “Access Denied” messages as I scoured the web for WoW insight (during lunch and breaks, ofc!), I hit gold when google returned a web address that started with a strange tag.

Somehow, this service routes the data through a proxy and seems to be ignored by all the filters. Here it is:

    https://secure.1k.ca/rbccm/nph-proxy.cgi/000110A/http/

    Follow that up with -
    http://www.wowwiki.com
    http://www.thottbot.com
    http://www.wowinsider.com

Now, I’ve found it has trouble with some stuff. The WoW forums, for example, usually won’t load and armory doesn’t work. Anything using XML, it seems. Nevertheless, this has opened a lot of doors for me. :)

Long live BRK, wheresoever he resides.

    Grats.

Damn Borrodir, thanks for the info. That link is gonna be my ticket into a lot of places while at work (during lunch ofc! :0)

Congrats! Your blog is fantastic and I’m glad you’re being recognized for that. Keep up the great work.

I don’t know that we hate hunters… we just don’t have any hunter mains on staff. (I’m not sure how it happened, but we seem to have a bunch of priests.)

And I do play a horde priest… just, fortunately, not Madoran. :)

Thankfully… grumble grumble… hunter pets… grumble… bestial wrath… grumble grumble grumble… and, of course, the only thing worse than a BM hunter in PvP is a BM hunter who knows what they’re doing. Eep!

  12. Keystone on April 13th, 2007 8:53 pm

Congratulations on the new job opportunity, they couldn’t have found a better blogger for the job!

  13. Excaliber1 on April 13th, 2007 9:46 pm

woot grats! hope you make some phat lootz! And make sure to show everyone how hunters rule!! =)

  14. Wowpeon on April 13th, 2007 10:38 pm

Well what can I say, you can only talk so much good sense for so long before someone notices. :) Congratulations muchly, I know Hunters will be well-represented over there. Let BRK be your unedited outlet and we’ll all be okay. :D

  15. Jezrael on April 13th, 2007 11:12 pm

Congrats Damh & Hobbes! This is going to make my life a little easier since your blog and WoW Insider are the main WoW content I read. Now I’ll be able to get all the goodness in one place.

And yeah the hunter hate… well it won’t be coming from the staff over at Insider… but I have noticed a few regular commenters over there who are shall we say a little… rabid. Hehehe. But like Misfit says - we got your back! :)

  16. Grimshar on April 13th, 2007 11:41 pm

    Congratulations Damh and Hobbes!

You deserve to be there (and I’ll make sure to use Borrodir tip while I’m on lunch break at work).

Looking forward to more insight on how to develop my hunter!

    Congrats!!
I’m jealous! I always thought it’d be fun to be a paid columnist, lol.

Anyway, I’ll definitely stop over there more often to see how things are going.

    Lucky bum! :P

  18. Damh on April 14th, 2007 11:26 am

For those who don’t know, Elizabeth Harper is a super WoWInsider Blogger and my contact throughout the entire applications process. She even brought one of her alliance priests over to Legendary to spy on us…

    /wink

And Lassirra… stop talking about my bum. :)

Well Well Congratulations Damh and Hobbes you have finally hit the paid big times, Cause as we all know that BRK is big time just not for the mula.
