Phat Loot… Well, It’s Loot

BRK » 17 May 2007 » In Gear » 18 Comments

Our collection of the 65DPS guns is expanding. First we had our Consortium Blaster, then our Ornate Khorium Rifle, and now we add the Recoilless Rocket Ripper X-54 to the armory. Yes, we got a drop in an instance but it’s not really an upgrade.

BRK finally got a Steamvaults run, we cleared it, #1 DPS and the rest of the typical stats. Lots of chain trapping which was fun. The tank knew when to take the trapped mob and when the seduced mob needed killing sooner. Feral Druid tank which BRK loves. Holy Paladin, Shadow Priest, and Warlock.

Can ya tell what spec a Warlock is just by looking at him? Big demon with an axe, yeah that Demonology, got it, but what about the other two? We’re just wondering.

We need one more SV run for revered, but tomorrow is Black Morass and our Karazhan key. Finally, we’ll be able to give some first-hand accounts of how BM spec hunters do there. WooT!

We had to have a dps warrior using his gun on maiden the other day as we had too many melee :) Gun dps pwns :)
I like your blog and have linked to it from mine – World of warcraft guru If you like mine I would greatly appreciate a reciprocal link. Thanks!

    Man I want a gun like that…

I’m enjoying your writing, as a fledgling hunter… maybe you can give some advice on something I haven’t found documented on your blog…

    Pet builds.

My cat is close to 40 and already I’m realizing I will never have the points to give him all the abilities (ok, I naively thought I would)… so at the moment hes got bite, claw, growl and dash. I don’t really think dash is that good… but losing it only gives me 15 spare TPs.

I’m only PvE. It’s annoying me that I don’t have enough point for the last greater stamina. I’ve not spent anything in resistances…

It feels like a real balancing act, and I wouldn’t mind hearing your views… unless you can’t be arsed, which I fully understand haha.

ah ignore me. just found all the pets posts. sigh.

That gun drops quite frequently. I took it the other day (lower DPS than my current bow, but hey… I “needed” a gun) because we had no rogue or warrior.
What’s the ammo pouch equivalent to the Worg Hide Quiver?

What’s the ammo pouch equivalent to the Worg Hide Quiver?

    Hobbes is… blue?

I’ll always prefer bows over guns, I think. I used Hemet’s Elekk Gun as soon as I got it, but boy was I happy to replace it.

The boom bang crash just sounds cheesy to me. Looks cool as hell, but the sound effects on the things kill me. :x

Need a back brace for that thing?

When Hobbes is not destroying as BigRedKitty (aka Bestial Wrath) he is a Winterspring Frostsaber Pridewatcher and thus purple. :)

I hate that gun with a burning passion… I did a non-stop Steamvaults day with some friends (We did maybe 10 runs) that gun dropped 2 or 3 times, but even worse, that Serpent Staff dropped a whopping 7 times and we never had anybody who could ever use it. Moral of the story? That guy never ever drops his Paladin Helmet (I already have it, but still… what a low drop rate!)

In addition, to answer your Warlock question, all I know is the Warlocks 41 pt talent in affliction causes my Blessing of Light to proc for 300 – 400 healing per hit… talk about an HoT!

Side-Note: My confirmation word is ofzmg, which kind of makes me giggle.

Off Topic: I always see you mention Hobbes, so I did some BRK research, I see you have Felreaver & a Dragonhawk (What’s his name?).

Do you still use these guys, or does Hobbes always take prime spot nowadays? What were your pets pre-outland, or were you always a 1 pet type of guy? What was your pet of choice pre-hobbes… were they all tigers? I think it’d be interesting to see a BRK reminiscing about pets gone by post, but that may just be me. ^_^

    As far as Warlocks:

If it has an Imp, there’s a good chance you’re dealing with an Aff lock who’s using it as a mana battery…. or somebody who just ran out of soul shards.

With dest locks it’s harder to tell. If you see them using Drain Soul a lot, since they’re burning shards on soul fire and shadowburn maybe. ;)

My pvp pet is Rak’Shiri, the rare from winterspring. Looks like hobbes but I think his stripes are a little different color.

Our first pet was Googlybear who we picked up at level 10 and took him all the way to 60.

    We had a turtle, Panzer.

He had an Uldaman bat, Ding.

We had an EPL boar, Pretty.

And now we have our Warphunter anmed Felreaver who we bring along when a serious pet-off tank is needed, and our unnamed Dragonhawk.

We think the dragon hawk is going to go away and we’ll try one of the purple and red birds from Sethikk Halls, but that takes a party who understands how important it is for a hunter to get just the right pet. :)

I’ve got one of those brown armored boars from RFK. Got him the very second I hit level 30 and could hence feign my way far enough through the instance to get to him, tame him, and hearth out.

The armored boars are actually pretty uncommon. I’ve seen one or two others on my server, but always the black ones, so I still maintain at least some sense of uniqueness.

His name is Resarto, and I’m totally addicted to Charge.

There is really no easy way to tell a destruction lock from an affliction lock by looks. The best you can do is by the color of their hands when casting. Hands always show the school of magic, so if the hands are fiery, the lock is most likely destruction. If the hands are black, its a shadow spell. Could be affliction or destruction.

I think a BM hunter is a perfect fit for Black Morass. The strategy I’ve had GREAT success with is to have a mage/lock and my pet on the adds, while I dps the elites. The high-powered squishy would set up shop about halfway between the portal and Medivh, and I would leave my pet on stay and aggressive next to him, with growl turned on.

My pet would hold aggro (for the lock, at least) while the clothie did his business. The mage eventually asked me to put my pet on the elites so he could use frost nova (since one growl couldn’t compete with his burst damage), but the lock loved it.

I also recommend maxing out Hobbes’ arcane resist — the first boss has a nasty arcane AoE shock, and with the 150 resist on my cat, he usually resisted 90-100% of the damage.

I’ve also read you can use Tranquilizing shot on the third boss, but haven’t tried that yet.

Not really an upgrade? Two words for you: Rocket. Launcher. Quake III all over again. Now if only someone could figure out how to rocket jump…
