Just a Little Something, Hardly Worth Mentioning
“Interesting post over on the main boards, here is the link: http://forums.worldofwarcraft
“About halfway down you’ll notice a Hunter from Death and Taxes posted a screenshot of a DamageMeter on a recent SSC run. Guess what class and spec the #1 DPS is? That’s right, a 41/20 BM Hunter.
“Here is a post from DnT website talking about their recent respecs to BM and the success they’ve had since: http://www.dtguilds.com/forums
“Interesting that a top raid guild is finally coming to the realization that you have been saying for months… BM roxxors!! Krytan, lvl 69 NE Hunter on Dalaran”
Of course, that’s +5 BRK Cool Points to Krytan.

That’s all great and wonderful. I’m also a BM specced hunter, 41/20. Ravel hunter certainly knows how to not only play his class well, he has full epic gear, save a rare trinket spot, and he obviously knows what he’s doing in a raid. Great job to him. However, the article, and your contribution to it fails to mention that the #8 dps spot also belongs to a BM specced hunter. He falls just about the warrior, who I can only assume is a dps specced warrior.
Once again this proves that it is not about the spec of the hunter, perse, as this dps chart clearly illustrates, but more so about how prepared he comes to the fight and how well he plays to his spec and class. It’s about how well you play your class first and foremost, and secondly, it is about how well you play to the STRENGTHS of your spec.

D@mn right. Spec alone won’t make you a great player.
But a good one doesn’t hurt.

Ooh.. that is very nice.
I noticed Ravel has a huge crit chance. I, on the other hand, have focused on gathering as much RAP as I can while keeping my crit chance at a respectable level.
Seeing as I’m a BM hunter with increased attack speed, should I start valuing crit more than RAP or is it just a matter of personal choice? I just today got the Bloodlust Brooch and now I’m facing the decision whether or not to use Abacus of the Violent Odds or Hourglass of the Unraveller with it.
More AP = more pet dmg whereas more crit doesn’t benefit my pet at all.
My brain freezes when I start to think about these things so if someone could shed some light to the matter, I would be eternally grateful (:

More crit actually does benefit your pet, in an indirect fashion, if you have put points in Go for the Throat. More focus means more Claw spam, after all.

Great point.
Pfft. I suck at theorycrafting (:

Yes, ” Anonymous” it proves that a competent hunter that whants to win the DPS-charts should specc Beast Mastery. It doesen’t guarantee anything, but what does? Players with any specc can end up at spot 8, but not on place 1.

I was specced MM for a long while, running Kara and I can proudly say I never fell below the 2nd spot on the dps meter. We have 4 hunters in our guild, all uniquely specced, one is Survival, another is BM and then there was me, MM. I regularly and I can also say, always, out damaged every other hunter I would run with as a Mark specced hunter. So, no, Markus “lake” berglund, it does not prove anything of the sort. It also does not guarantee anything of the sort. What it does mean is exactly what I said in my initial reply. A good hunter with a good, solid, build will always do top damage in any raid he is thrust into. Actually, your reply made little sense so I’m not sure why I’ve even taken the time to reply to it. Ugh.
Have a good one.

I’ve always been of the opinion that any pet class (or spec in WoW’s case) should be able to put out more DPS than an equally geared non-pet player. This is because the pet represents such a large portion of that Hunter’s DPS (I’d estimate minimu of 40%) that if something happens to said pet, the BM Hunter’s DPS tanks. It’s a form of gambling, that has a high chance of paying off, but if something goes wrong, it’s really obvious.

Unconvinced about Death and Taxes seeing as they appear to have been left behind by so many guilds now
