We Need a Bigger Closet
We have way too much gear at the moment. We have three belts, three chest pieces, two shoulders, seven ranged weapons, two pair of gloves, two helmets, two two-handed weapons, two one-handed axes and two daggers. All of these are nice but there isn’t a clear and concise “winner” in any of those categories. Frankly, we’re getting tired of being purpleless.
Although we’ve had this lance for a few days, yesterday we splurged and slapped the +35 Agility enchant on our PvP polearm.
It was the quest reward for killing Terrok for the Sha’tari Skyguard. It’s bigger than our Terrok’s Quill and that’s a plus. We’d love a Sonic Spear, but it never wants to drop for us. This thing bumps our RAP up a bit, but we lose 54 agility so our crit goes down like a bad joke we can’t use in a family-friendly environment.
So it’s off to the bank to try on the things in our closet. Agility, agilty… Don’t we have a better belt with more agility? Yes we do, so that gets put on. Wow, our stamina and intellect just took nosedives. That’s not good.
Don’t we have a better shoulder piece with more stamina and intellect? Yes we do, so that gets put on. Wow, our +hit just fell through the floor. That’s not good.
Don’t we have a better belt with a little agility and +hit? Yes we do, so that gets put on. Wow, our agility dropped again. That’s not good.
Don’t we have a ranged weapon with agility? Yes we do, so that gets put on. Wow, our DPS just dropped by 10. That’s not good…
ENOUGH ALREADY!!
/pant
After a good sixty minutes of internal discussion and trying things on, we’ve decided to try this setup:
We really wanted to wear our +hit belt, but the resulting crit-loss was too much for us to bear.
Remember a few days ago when we had 600 agility? Hard to believe that we can cut that number by 16% and still increase our DPS. We also increased our health and mana. We really like the mana increase, truly.
We lost 1 1/2% crit. We really hate our crit. With a passion, it burns us. So much so we searched the Auction House for +crit gems. We didn’t buy them, but we window-shopped.
Many people use Hunter Agility Equivalency Points to determine which gear to use. We give a jaunty /salute to you for whom this method gives pleasure and a sense of confidence.
However, please don’t forget that trying the d@mn stuff on is important, too.

See, it’s so much easier to make gear decisions based off of what’s fashionable and what isn’t. You should’ve rolled a blood elf. ^_^
Lol, picking items is hard
I was carrying quite a selection of garments myself, though only two ranged weapons. Don Santos’ ass whooper is the gun I’m using. But after all the time it took me to get the consortium blaster, I’m having trouble just dropping it
Also last night I finally maxed my engineering skill and made the gyro gun thingy for a tank friend from kara. It really is a nice tanking gun, but I don’t think it’s an upgrade for me from my current one. Quite frankly, with the proc rate of santos, i’m not sure the wolf sniper rifle is really even an upgrade. But the point on clothing is, I’ve indeed chosen which piece to wear based on looks lol. For instance, I had those shoulders BRK is wearing and had to sell them, because they look so retarded. I just couldn’t wear them. But eventually I got the BL shoulders and it was all good anyhow. Due to limited space in my bank, I have finally started to let go of some of those random items that “might” be good at a future time because of agi. Am I really going to saccrifice a ton of ap, hit, armor, health, and mana for more agi? Lol, no. Vender that stuff man. You’re just causing useless heartache.
Damh, how important is +Hit for a hunter? Does it work in the same way for hunters as it does for casters?
I play a mage and I’m raid specced/geared, so +Spell Hit is highly important to me. The good people over at Subcreation say that level ?? raid bosses are counted as being level 73 in terms of chance to miss (http://forums.subcreation.net/viewtopic.php?id=3815). It means you only have an 83% chance to hit a raid boss without +hit talents or gear.
With that in mind, they worked out that in DPS terms, 1 Spell Hit = 1.4 Spell Damage (until you reach the +Hit cap of 99% - the max you can have).
If it works the same way for hunters, I’d guess the amount of +Hit you need really depends on what you intend to do.
Same level mob or a level 70 player - 96% chance to hit
Level 71 - 95% chance to hit
Level 72 - 94% chance to hit
Level 73 - 83% chance to hit (not a typo).
If you’re only doing pvp or 5 mans, +3% Hit is probably sufficient and I wouldn’t sacrifice other stats for any more than that.
Enlighten me. My hunter is a couple of levels from 70 and I’d like to know if it’s worth looking out for +Hit gear for him.
Completely off-topic, but still hunter related, I think this would make an interesting article for BRK:

My stamina really sucks. I have just over 6k health n’ that just won’t cut it.
I love the way dwarves look in thoe shoulders… like a freaking fortress with legs. Too bad the helmet just looks silly no matter what race you are.
You might want to have a look at RatingBuster. Its small, sweet, and totally indispensible when you quickly need to determine need/greed
Just go do some BG’s for a few days, and get yourself some purples that way. It will at least help eliminate some of the crap in your closet.
Duro Foot Gear was my last piece of green to get replaced. Great boots!
I still rock the Duro foot gear.
Wanna be amused? Go to wow head and search for mail boots with 20 or more agility. Then sort by item level. You will notice those green boots are an item lvl111.
They even beat out lvl70 EPIC boots. Figure that one out.
I think this article is BRK starting to show the lack of scalability of his spec. By not making upgrades HUGE like they were in the lvl 60 endgame, Blizzard extends the life of the level 70 endgame.
Therefore to make the most of new items you need modifier talents. That’s simply something that isn’t provided much to the BM spec.

damnit damh.. get your freakin purplz already.
Guy, from what I understand ilevels are specific to the color of the gear. Not sure on the specific numbers exactly, but its something like: purple ilvl85 item = blue ilvl 100 item = green ilvl 115 item, as far as budget to spend on modifiers goes. So a purple ilvl 110 item will have far more points budgeted than a green ilvl 111 pair of boots (even if in practice it usually means those points are budgeted to gem slots so you have to spend money to actually get the stats).
As far as the topic of the entry, I LOVE the addon Outfitter. It allows me to put together a good grinding set (lots of mana regen), a PVE dungeon set (as much RAP and crit as I can get), and a PVP set (balance damage with high stamina and resilience) and switch them back and forth with a touch of a button. Which is why my armory always looks less than stellar, because I normally have my grinding gear on when I log for the night:)

There, my bad…
Makes sense Dunmirik
Thanks for the insight!
I still stand by these boots as being SOLID.
Even if I do get made fun of wearing them…

You really need to boost your crit rating! Running at 32% when in Kara now, #1 DPS with a wind serpent(only lightning breath on)
I also am building my pvp set, thus far, I have 11117 HP!! Fun!
Hey there…
Although a recent convert to the full BM tree, I have been catching your ramblings for a little while now, taking what knowledge I get from you, adding to my own and trying to convert all the MM hunters that I know to REAL way of DPS…BM!!!
Having many similar problems myself at present with what gear to use. But for PvP I went for the crystal forged waraxe. Similar to what you have listed in you blog, I believe the stats are as follows..
50 Stam,
80 Atk Pwr,
27 Crit.
Not 100%, but keep your eyes open for it, it might just be the thing your looking for.
Nergal, Kul Tiras EU.
