Phat Loot! WooT! And It Looks Mahvelous

BRK » 22 June 2007 » In Gear, Guild »

Mechanar finally coughed up something we’ve been working our little dwarven @ss off to get. That meta socket got filled with a spiffy little gem called a Thundering Skyfire Diamond that should - according to our research - give us +240 Haste for six seconds when it procs, and the proc rate is supposedly 5%. It was pricey, 135 gold, but that’s the type of stuff for which we don’t mind blowing some change.

In other news, a bunch of us split from our guild when it was made known that Group 2’s loot distribution would change to a Most Needed basis. All the dkp was tossed and the GM was going to hand out loot to those whose gear was the worst. Um, no thanks, and we bolted.

The new guild is 10-14 of us all dedicated to running Kara, details TBD. But the tabbard was specifically designed to be hideous; pink with a teddy bear. Nobody is wearing it and it’s another blow for immature teenage boys being given responsibility.

So we can either wear no tabbard or our Kuranei tabbard. Help us pick, please:We really like the Kuranei tabbard as it matches our new helm, though.

Pics of the pink bear tabbard, too please!

  2. BRK on June 22nd, 2007 3:15 am

Oh Elune, please don’t make us wear it…

  3. Maut on June 22nd, 2007 3:26 am

Gz on the phat loot. Pity it’s more of a sidegrade to the Stalkers Helm of Second Sight than an outright upgrade (notwithstanding the set bonus).

  4. Rune on June 22nd, 2007 3:50 am

I’m going to have to go with the second one, though I’m sure the Pink Teddy looks soo much better… ^_~

  5. Anonymous on June 22nd, 2007 4:03 am

How can you call yourself BRK clad in a pink bear tabard? for matching purposes I suggest the kurenai tabard.

BTW good move on changing guilds, that sounded like a raw deal for people who put time and effort into raiding, also the 2nd group would prob turn into the “short bus” where they wouldnt be able to progress very far.

  6. Apolonal on June 22nd, 2007 4:33 am

grats on getting a piece of the beast lord set ^_^

one more piece and you get phat traps too! (-4 sec cooldown on traps)

The teddy bear tabard looks tempting, but I’d say go with the Kuranei one, or go without…

  7. Elmlin on June 22nd, 2007 4:42 am

Use the Kurenai tabard, and then pick up beast lord spaulders off Kalithresh. Then you might just barrel through a couple heroics and pick up some hot Blood Knight Warcloak. Then you’d be styling brotha!

  8. Elmlin on June 22nd, 2007 4:45 am

…I’m not sure what we can do about you being a dwarf however…It’s a physical deformity really…

  9. Apolonal on June 22nd, 2007 4:49 am

    ^^Agreed

    It’s genetics afterall… ^_~

well, i dunno. are you going for the badass look or the classy look? are you threatening horde or demonstrating they’re so out of their class they shouldn’t bother? I have to say, you could cut out a unique place for yourself in the WoW society as the charmingly suave dwarf hunter. you take your onslaught elixirs shaken, not stirred.

  11. zurzu on June 22nd, 2007 6:55 am

please, please, i want to see the teddy-tabard, pretty please with anything u want on top, etc, etc

    keep up the good work!

    Forgot to add another comment:

brk, seriously, i can see the cold-cut mathematical reasoning behind your choice of gear. but,i’m sorry to say, your dress-sense is lacking (a very fequent eye-sore in my realm)!

Is it so crazy to loose some ag in favour of aesthetics?
ok, ok, ogres, dragons and what-have-you have no taste anyway, and math rules.

Having said that, however, i implore you (and others):
When you strut around within the urban centres (big & small, show some dress-sense, please, there are courses for this kind of thing, you know.

So, please give the teddy-tabard a chance and post an image of you in urban attire, please

    respect,

gz on the Beast Lord Helm BRK :)

I had one drop for me earlier this week but I’m still wearing my Stalkers Helm of Second Sight at the moment - it looks pretty ;)

What is the deal with the Beast Lord drops from Steam Vaults? I have run that so many times and never even had a sniff at the shoulders or the legs from there. I don’t want the gloves or chest because I have better, but please let me just have the legs OR shoulders (or both) so I can get that spiffy 4 sec bonus!!

By the way, thanks for another good insider article this week. I am beginning to love macros thanks to your wise teachings.

One more thing: I vote for no tabbard.

  14. Bobflintston on June 22nd, 2007 9:19 am

Oi! Less of the racial slurs. Long live Ironforge.

    Darnasus stinks.

  15. Tom on June 22nd, 2007 10:09 am

    Kurenai tabard definetly.

  16. Bonnie on June 22nd, 2007 10:21 am

Kuranei for sure. the skull makes you look like a horde wannabe and i’ve killed people for less. (HUAH HORDE!!) lol. though, as a member of the CareBearClub on Velen and wearing a purple tabbard with the crying bear on it i’ve gotta say that the pink one wouldn’t be too bad. it’s not hideous, it’s just not manly.

  17. Anonymous on June 22nd, 2007 10:52 am

I say quit slacking and get your Honor Hold rep to exalted. The tabard is magnificent!

The gun is a nice little extra reward as well.

  18. Anonymous on June 22nd, 2007 11:34 am

Kuranei tabard, of what you’ve shared with us. Wear the teddy bear tabard and I’ll hunt Moony down and have her draw you in neon colors like hot pink. You’ll look more like a gnome than a dwarf. lol.

Good luck with the new guild. With so few people to work with it’s going to be more difficult to run Kara, but at least you know you’ll be getting the loot you might have missed out on with the previous arrangement. For BRK’s sake, I pray that the drama keeps to a minimum so that you don’t have to keep guild hopping.

Oh yeah, and grats on the loot.

  19. Wowpeon on June 22nd, 2007 12:42 pm

I wear the Mag’har tabbard exclusively so I’d vote for Kuranei of course. Beast Lord Mantle dropped for me in my so far only run of Steam Vaults, yay!

  20. Brigin on June 22nd, 2007 1:19 pm

    Pink Baby Bear Tabard FTW!

  21. Rizzah on June 22nd, 2007 1:50 pm

I am not, and have never been a fan of DKP systems - however, you don’t hand out loot just because someone has worse gear. Attendance and overall guild performance (helping out in ANY way) have to be taken into account when giving out gear without some kind of a point system. If my guild was just handing out gear to the worst geared player, i’d be bringing a set of greens to the raids. “can I get that steelhawk? My current only does 15.9 DPS”

PS: Instead of leaving your guild, you should just delete your character and reroll horde… you know you want to.

  22. Sylvina Solaris on June 22nd, 2007 1:50 pm

Fingers crossed your server transfer doesn’t blow up in your face. If you were Horde I’d tell you to come and apply to my server. :P

Wear the Kurenai Tabard. As for the way your guild did things, a smart idea in general would be to ditch DKP, use a /random 100 system, and teach people not to be greedy @$&%s. :O

  23. Sylvina Solaris on June 22nd, 2007 1:51 pm

Side-Note: That is the DUMBEST looking helmet ever. I demand that it’s turned off this instant, it makes my blood elf fashion sense cry.

  24. Amanna on June 22nd, 2007 2:00 pm

Damh - Gratz on the gear. It’s always nice to FINALLY get that one piece you’ve been waiting for to drop.

Maybe it’s just my Night Elf sensibilities, but I gotta go with the Pink Teddy Bear. It just sounds so… cute!

    Wait! Maybe a…..

    BIG RED TEDDYBEAR!!!

  25. Zemulos on June 22nd, 2007 2:12 pm

So… mathematically speaking, is that metagem better than the metagem with +12agi and 3%ncreased damage from criticals?

  26. BRK on June 22nd, 2007 2:27 pm

We’re not sure, actually. It would probably be based upon talent spec. Marksman and Suvivalists, those big crit-ers, would probably take the +3% to crit damage in a heartbeat. We BMs, on the other hand, know the power of Serpent’s Swiftness and how attack speed affects DPS.

This is pure speculation right now, though. But we’re sure a spreadsheet is being built somewhere to show at what crit percentage the extra damage would be more appropriate for the +crit damage gem.

  27. Joyd on June 22nd, 2007 3:07 pm

Kurenai tabard is a class act. I’d go with that one.

  28. Karl on June 22nd, 2007 3:19 pm

For the love of God, the Kurenai tabard please!

And note to the blood elf, that helm is far from the worst lookng.. there are many that are much more ghastly. (And why would any self-respecting dwarf take fashion advice from a blood elf?..)

But I gotta admit, that outfit might have stats, but it is ugly.. (allthough that seems to apply more and more to any high-level gear).

and the politics.. yet one more reason why I am going to cut back my wow time, and not worry about raiding.

  29. zita4 on June 22nd, 2007 3:21 pm

easy to make the sjyfire diamond, you just have to have a friend alchemist. Farm mats or buy gems at ah, they cost betwen 1/2 g each, farm the primals and voila, all you need is a friend alchemist to make the gem. Get a nice JC that has recepy, he might take about 20g/50g to cut it, and overall cost of imba gem, 20 g(yes i am miner :D).

  30. Guy on June 22nd, 2007 3:44 pm

    Stick with the Kuranei tabard.

Let me ask though, is it the Loot council method you don’t like? Or the fact that they went away from DKP without asking?

You are going to HATE this new guild BRK.

I was the GM of a guild much like this before I realized that:
1.) A small guild dedicated to Kara progression is good on paper, but in reality working around class balance and scheduling it’s next to impossible to actually progress.
2.) Children can’t play this game. ESPECIALLY if they are tanks. They end up getting one or two pieces of epic PvE gear and they go spec Fury because they want to have more fun in the Battlegrounds. I’ve seen it too many times over the last 3 years. My current guild has about 7 prot warriors now and I want to say oldest is in his 50s and the youngest is 24-25ish. It’s good.
3.)To progress you need to do loot council or loot rolling, DKP just doesn’t work.

You JUST transferred servers, and the guild you were in just split up and it sounds like you landed yourself in the kiddy guild.

I never thought I would say this to a BM, let alone BRK…

But I pray for you my friend, this is a travesty that could very well end your WoW career.

    -Guy

  31. Zemulos on June 22nd, 2007 5:05 pm

Lol, Guy, that is a rather bleak outlook. :P So, that spreadsheet that BRK is talking about regarding metagems…. You’re the one spearheading that, right? Because you explain things well… I’ll check back here in about an hour lol.

  32. Guy on June 22nd, 2007 6:00 pm

    Eeek!

This isn’t one I feel real comfortable with tackling. This is the kind of gem I stay away from just because the stats are murkey.

For my spec I like the 12agi +3% crit damage, it’s this shit for SV.

    But a haste gem..

Well.. I’ll try and figure this out as I type this (thinking out loud).

5% proc rate, 240 seconds, increases speed by.. oh crap… wtf is a Haste rating equal to these days? One sec..

(and here I was going to spend the day debating if I even need to spend any arena points at all this season..)

Ahh.. there we go.. 1% Haste increase = 10.51 Haste rating

(/starts to get the feeling BRK made the right decision and I’m just doing this because others are lazy =P)

So the gem gives 240 Hate rating which is equal to 22.84% increase in speed. (OMFG)

Here’s where it starts to get messy, I’m not sure if Blizzard takes the 22.84% off of the number accounting for talents and equipment or not.

I’m giving them and BRK the benefit of the doubt though and saying the 22.84% comes off of his armory number that accounts for those things.

BRK’s weapon speed is a GODLY 2.17 right now. So to increase by 22.84% would mean bringing it down to 1.67. for 6 seconds.

(That number looks right but feels wrong)

So normally in 6 seconds BRK lets loose 2.76 shots.

Under this effect he lets loose 3.59 shots. Basically one more shot per proc.

I like to do things by counting them over 100 shots. In essence we can say that BRK will get 5 extra shots in the time it would normally take to spew out 100.

Those 5 shots (not taking hit or crit into account) will hit for on average of 683.5.

Producing an extra 3,417.5 every 100 shots.

    (oooo BTW, nice Belt BRK.)

Why were we doing this whole exercise again?

    OH YEAH…

Comparing it to other gems… So.. which did we want to compare it to? Oh Dear lord… I have to compare this to my gem…

Sorry Zem.. I’m going to need another hour on this.

In kara, we’re not using DKP at the moment. We’re letting anyone for whom the drops are upgrades roll on them, but even then we’ll often pass on items to other players if it’ll be more of an upgrade for them. After all, it benefits the raid more to give the guy with green gloves some epics than it does to increase my agility by 10.

This works in our guild because of the way we deal with each other. I’ve seen people arguing over which one of them should take an item, each trying to convince the other to take it, although that wasn’t in Kara.

But hell yeah, you’re going to need more than 14 people. Our guild can barely pull together 25 questionably geared people for a raid on gruul’s lair, occasionally have trouble filling in 2 groups of 10 for kara, and have significantly over 100 accounts in the guild, although admittedly we’re a casual raiding guild which means people aren’t compelled to get up and get raiding right away. Some of our members don’t have mains to 70 yet.

Ive Posted what I worked out in the other blog thingy.

    I make it 2.2% better to have TSD, than +12 & 3%.

This assumes no pet, and just auto shot.

I can email my workings if you want.
