Pretty Picture Time

First off, Volley and Misdirection. This combination sure did work for us.As you can see, we cast Misdirection on Hobbes and dropped a Volley on the yellow snake. The snake immediately targeted Hobbes and went for him. The difference from our previous post is that the first three strikes from the Volley counted as three “attacks”, so we didn’t have two more attacks available to use with the Misdirection spell. Since Multi Shot works in a similar fashion, and does a lot more damage, if you want to help your tank hold aggro during an AoE blitz, drop a Misdirection on him and Multi Shot the mobs. The tank will be higher on three of the mobs’ aggro list.

What would a BM hunter’s white damage look like if he had The Beast Within, a +Haste trinket, a Thundering Skyfire Diamond, and Ferocious Inspiration all proc at the same time? Like this:This was taken during our heroic Bloodfurnace run. Our Telescopic Sharprifle, which has a base 3.0 attack speed, is popping at an eyeblinking 1.47 attack speed. We wish we had remembered to slam Rapid Fire, too.

Our Kara run last night was very successful. Our guild’s first run since we formed last week, we took down Attumen and Morose. Attumen dropped his crossbow but we lost the DKP-bid to the other hunter. Our damage was very nice, as usual. Here’s the damage total after Morose was downed.Notice that we trained Hobbes with Bite 9. The 2/2 in Bestial Discipline and Go For The Throat has kept Hobbes’ Focus nice and plentiful during our previous Kara runs, so we thought we’d give Bite another try. Bite is still not very Focus-efficient but it did great thanks to the talent build we’re sporting. As long as Growl is not needed we’ll keep Bite active. What that means is that, while grinding, we’ll turn Growl on and Bite off, though.

If you have the time and motivation, take a look at the Armory profile of our hunter counterpart. He’s a heavy Marksman spec. He out DPS’d the priest and both tanks, but that’s it. Is the spec the problem? We’re not going to speculate on that, but look at his gear. No gems in his sockets. No enchants. No scope. He ran the instance without a pet. He trapped just fine, so he has some skill, but he has a complete and total lack of attention to detail.

This is the Wrong we try to Right at BRK. Many remark that we provide hints and tips for n00bs and casuals and that’s it. Frankly, that’s pretty true, but n00bs can be found at every level and in every instance in the game. If you know how to play your hunter well, you’re not going to find too many, “Gee, I didn’t know that.” moments here or anywhere else. But what we try to provide is a friendly place where those with questions can ask them without the stigmatism of being flamed and derided.

We’ve got all the hunter-flamers rounded up at WoW Insider, in case you couldn’t tell.

Edit: Two of the screenshots don’t seem to load in full-size mode. We’d reload them now, but we put them in the trash and emptied it. We’d get the email to which we attached them, but it went in the Deleted Items folder and that got auto-emptied.

/bash head on desk

Double Edit: The pics should all work now.

Thanks for the update on volley and multishot being used with misdirection. That was a good start towards redeeming yourself for getting my hopes up earlier.

    lol @ Khatia(n)

BRK, I think that writing such as that in this post is just what WI needs. And the reference pics are a nice touch.

  3. Zemulos on June 28th, 2007 1:51 pm

I can’t view your first pic for some reason. What is your white damage info? And what do you do with your attack speed that high? Just autoshot? Auto/arcane/auto/multi?

  4. BRK on June 28th, 2007 2:00 pm

    The number is 520.6 DPS.

With our attack speed fluctuating so much during an encounter, perhaps you can see why we eschew shot rotations.

What we do in situations where we become a dwarven machine gun is:

    1) Watch our Aggro
    2) Smack Kill Command
    3) Keep Serpent Sting up
    4) Multi and Arcane Shot
    5) Watch our Aggro again and premature FD when necessary.

Did you do a calculation such as the feb 22 post to decide bite is better for your current build in instances or are you going by feel *shudder*?

  6. Zemulos on June 28th, 2007 2:04 pm

When I pop troll racial and rapidfire my white damage shows retarded high numbers also, but do you thinkg you’re actually realizing that much damage? I’m not so sure. I don’t use shot rotations per se either, and I don’t use shot macros.

Focus Generation is the key to using Bite and Claw, (or any pet spells). Massive Focus-generation is derived from Go For The Throat, and that procs of crits. Since our crit percentage is 19%, and we can ramp our attack speed to 1.5 or better, we crit a lot. Not for a MM-level of damage, of course, or at a SV-rate, either. But enough to dump 50 Focus on our pet over and over again.

What we have seen - and experiementation is key, not just number-crunching - is that, with our current build and gear, we can safely run Claw and Bite and increase our pet’s DPS.

We are NOT comfortable running Bite, Claw, and Growl at the same time, though.

    Ahh claw AND bite…very nice.

“…take a look at the Armory profile of our hunter counterpart. He’s a heavy Marksman spec. He out DPS’d the priest and both tanks, but that’s it.”

Notice he died in the fight.

Did he get garrotted / fluff a trap? Or did he really manage to pull agro and get himself killed with the worst DPS? O.o

Yo! BRK, did you change your UI a bit? Last time we saw it, you had the griffons and such. Now, I really like your set up.

The guild name shown under your fellow party members is a little offensive…

  12. Wowpeon on June 28th, 2007 2:43 pm

The boss is called “Moroes” although I have to fight the urge to spell correctly too. :)

For the love of all that is Holy, do NOT use a DKP system in Karazhan! It makes no sense, primarily because it’s a 10 man instance, and the other instances are 25 mans. You’re going to have some drastic number/DKP issues in the future where Group 1 makes more DKP than Group 2, and then it hits the fan, etc.

Sure, it’s not a problem now, but I see this turning into a potential guild drama event in the coming years unless you’re doing DKP some very specific way that I’m unaware of.

Karazhan = UBRS w/Epics. Not to mention you usually only have 1 or 2 of each class in your group at once and most people DON’T have competition for gear. So… no DKP, it’s a good idea, trust me.

  14. Karl on June 28th, 2007 2:56 pm

So, if it’s Growl, Bite, Claw, the last one on the bar is Cower?

No links to bigger images?.. or is that due to the guild name?

  15. Dwayne on June 28th, 2007 4:32 pm

    Actually…

Seeing your guild name I’m highly offened. I’m surprised Blizzard hasn’t banned it.

I’ve been reading your post for a long time.. but that may make me rethink things

  16. Zemulos on June 28th, 2007 4:54 pm

“I’ve been reading your post for a long time.. but that may make me rethink things “

I just don’t understand this idiocy. BRK is not less of a person for being in this guild. Grow up.

  17. Guy on June 28th, 2007 5:09 pm

    Children and their guild names…

I was briefly with some EX raider friends of mine whose guild tag was “No Fat Chicks” Blizz made them change it to “No Fat Chickens”> Yes, a guild tag may seem to be insignificant, but if I were to be the kind to stereotype.. Those type of guild tags are guild that usually don’t go anywhere. Or worse, they try to go places and end up using DKP systems that go beyond what their needs are.

People get frustrated, people leave and try to make something better, people fail because they tend to create the same issues that existed in the place they were before.

Yes it’s a bleak outlook, I know Zem, tyvm.

    -guy

    PS: Nice dmg brk.

PPS: Think I’m going to switch to my wolf this week, “Bite” vs. “Howl” vs. Go for the Throat vs. My crit rate. Me thinks my crit rate will win every time.

  18. Zemulos on June 28th, 2007 5:18 pm

    lol

  19. Dwayne on June 28th, 2007 5:25 pm

I’m going to hijack this thread, and I want to apologize to BRK in advance. And yes this should be in the other post..but again I’m sorry.

I’m going to speak on two topics:

    1. I just don’t understand this idiocy. BRK is not less of a person for being in this guild. Grow up.

You saying you have year of experience in psychology is laughable. Especially with the above comment. To say that someone reliving something after 20 years should “get over it” is laughable. Peaople from Veitnam are still having problem “getting over it” (30 years ago). People who have had traumatic experiences can’t just “get over it”. They have flashbacks and whatnot, that will occur for the rest of their lives most likely. So as to your experience…

The second part is the guild name. I am going to bring up military only because BRK has in the past. You have to have character in the military or no one will follow or listen to you. Everything you do is based on your character and everything affects that character. Who you are associated with and what you are doing.

Now this is just a game and I should have thought about it before my last post. However that name does affect how other will look at BRK. Will I stop reading this blog, most likely not. Especially since BRK was looking into the issue. However having your name out front, WOW insider and this BLOG, your actions reflect on who and what you are. Associations reflect on who and what you are.

I will get off my soap box now and go back to just reading

  20. Zemulos on June 28th, 2007 5:51 pm

wow, a single traumatic event compared to vietnam? yeah, you’re opinion is not skewed. People live through tragedy all the time. War is a different story. Months and years of horror is going to be much harder to cope with than a single incident. And let me be very clear, if we’re talking about rape here, it is a VERY traumatic event. But normal grieving time is not so prolongued. Do me a favor don’t make absurd comparisons of two VERY different scenarios. We’re talking about 2-10 min of trauma as opposed to 2-10years? Or however long that particular person was in the war? The situations are not comparable. But say what you will, this will be my last post regarding this subject. My opinions are not relevant to this blogspace. And I too apologize for it BRK. Keep up the good Hunter stuff. And lets all just love each other, ok?

I just wanted to point out that the water elemental + the mage by the name of Moros beat BRK in damage if they were added togeather. The question is: How come the mage pet wasn’t merged with the mage?

  22. BRK on June 28th, 2007 6:55 pm

Hey anonymous! Sign up so we can give you BRK Cool Points! We were wondering when someone was going to mention that. :)

DamageMeters doesn’t like to mix Warlock, Priest, or Mage pets with their masters. Why? No idea. They should though.

  23. Zemulos on June 28th, 2007 7:12 pm

BRK!! You lost in dps to a firemage? /cry

    :P
