We Have No Idea At All

“I have a pet question, that while you may not know, I’m hoping you can post, and someone in the community can answer. One of the pets I have trained is the spawned “ghost” cat from Feralis, (the one you get from clicking on the statues).

“The question is this, since he is already semi-transparent, is he even more transparent when using Prowl? (I can’t test yet, as I don’t have him up to lvl 30 yet). Basically, does he gain more transparency that other cats since he is already transparent?.. or with Prowl do they all just look the same? If there is extra transparency, it would seem to be an advantage for PVP. If not, I may go grab a windserpent instead. Thanks, Halabar.”

Anybody out there got a semi-transparent cat with Prowl? Anybody? Hello? Bueller?

Edit: Do you all see why we love this blog? It’s because of YOU! In 30 minutes we got great information about a pet of which, frankly, we were totally unaware. Great answers, no flames, a really fun community. It’s a privilege to run this thing. You guys rock. Thank you.

Yes, I have a Ghost Saber and when in prowl mode, he is practically invisible.

Very nice pet…named him Casper :)

That sounds pretty sweet. I wonder how long it would take me to level one up to 70….

Also, check out this blog entry from Wowinsider:

It has a link to some pictures as well.

You can check that pet in Petopedia, they have pictures of him in prowl. There is one they even named …”where’s the cat”

As far as pvp goes, I don’t see it being an advantage. Your cat is already undetectable under prowl. However, it could work in your favor if you’re an mm hunter, they just might assume you don’t have your pet summoned. lol

Taming a Ghost Saber is a popular achievement for a young hunter these days, yet I don’t see many of them at higher levels. It might be worth keeping, if you really enjoy it.

But give windserpents, anything else that strikes your fancy, a try. At your level, it’s easy to gain loyalty and easy for a pet to “catch up” to your level if you decide to keep it, or if it has been sitting in your stable while you have been trying other pets.

When trying various pets, especially windserpents, make sure to do your homework on Petopia. Avoid “caster” pets like Azzere the Skyblade. It won’t seem to make much of a difference at your level, but as you advance your pet will be seriously gimped.

If you decide to stick with a windserpent and want a look that will stand out, pick a model that is not available at higher levels. You won’t regret it. For example, the green ones from Wailing Caverns or Thousand Needles are never seen again after level 28. The white ones are very unusual as pets as only the two rare spawns, Hayoc and Arash-ethis, are non-casters. And my hunter’s windserpent, Arikara, is a quest spawn in 1kn that retains her cool spawning animation (poof!) when tamed.

    Thanks Paul!

I am torn between my pets. I have the ghost saber, the red lynx from the BE starting zone, and a yellow-mane boar.

I really like them all, but unless Blizz gives another option, I might have to let one go eventually.

(At least we now have the training bug where we don’t have to drop our third pet in order to train new skills!)

I REALLY like the red lynx, as I have never seen one on alliance on my server. (only the brown lynxes instead, since they are in outlands as well).

With the prowl effect stacking on top of the existing transparency, I might just have to keep him, but, as stated, if others can’t see the effect, then maybe it won’t help me anyway.. hmm…

So, with prowl on, your PVP opponent can’t see you cat anyway, right?.. is there a reason then in pvp where the transparency would help?..

    thanks!!

I have been using the ghost saber from Darkshore, and while it won’t be less detectable in terms of stealthing in PvP, it is harder to notice when un-stealthed, especially against certain backgrounds. So I’m guessing it might take a fraction of a second longer for some folks to notice or target, and that this could work to your advantage once in a while. Heck, I sometimes lose sight of where my cat is, which is a minor downside of this pet. Still haven’t chosen a name, but glad to read someone else thought of Casper. :)

    Geoben,

Thanks for the info on the WS. I’ll take a look at petopia again, but I’ll still have to decide about keeping the ghostsaber or not.

I picked the red lynx for the same reason you suggest, as that cat is only available in the BE starting zones.
