Aetherial Circle Goes Bananas in Kara

BRK » 10 July 2007 » In Gear, Guild, Raids »

The more we run with AC, the more we like it. Adult age required, adult behavior mostly kept on standby. Goofy most of the time, but when work needs to be done they can focus and accomplish some great things. Like last night.

AC has never taken down Moroes. The guild just doesn’t have the undead crowd control necessary, and there is very little that can be down to counteract that fact. So we offered our bestest buddy The Diet Coke of Evil up for consideration. She’s a Shadow Priest and them chicks are mighty handy to have around. The guild nabbed her for the night and set off for Moroes.

And D@MN if he didn’t go down! Ka-wacka! Plate and leather drops, the Paladin celebrated his first epic ever. A nice bidding war over the plate belt with many “Ooo’s and Ah’s” as the final price was 400 DKP. Cheers all around, we’re really proud of them all.

Should we go for Maiden? Dang spiffy we should, although the guild has never even seen Maiden before. A quick Wikipedia-review read later and AC engages… and gets wiped out, big-time. Line-of-sight issues prevented dispelling. A quick strategy review and this time we all scootch a little closer so we’re not standing between the pillars but in a little in front of them.

And D@MN if she didn’t go down! POW! ZIP! BIFF! BRK sees more mail drop and salivates like a Pavlovian dog:

But wait a minute. Just which gloves would we replace with these? Why our beloved Beast Lord Handguards:

Veddy intewesting. Same gems and enchant, so let’s ignore those. What are we left with when we “upgrade”?

    +100 armor
    -22 agility
    +10 stamina
    +7 intellect
    +17 crit strike rating
    +18 attack power
    +4 mana per 5 seconds
    -3 hit rating

We do have three pieces of the Beast Lord set, so we don’t lose the trap cooldown bonus when we equip the epic gloves. As for the agility loss, we suppose the armor, crit rating, and attack power differences make up for it, but c’mon Blizz, throw some agility on these things, please? It feels like we’re wearing a purple just for the sake of it being purple, not because it’s a definitive upgrade over our dungeon set 3 gloves.

Kara resets today and we’d love for the guild to not wait until Sunday to go back. The people who ran it the past two days should get to take down Attumen, Moroes, and Maiden again so they get phat loot too. Of the six purples that dropped in the past two days, we’ve walked away with two. We want to help the others get goodies, too, and waiting until Sunday is gonna be hard.

But really, we just want to hear the screams from Cayleigh if she gets a drop. When Maiden fell she basically broke windows with her yelling. It was cool.

Edit: The DCoE got her Elephant. WooT and Gratsz!

Double Edit: By request, the current BRK Character pane with the new epic gloves equipped:

Gah, don’t give them any more ideas BRK, they’ve already jammed Agi on so many mail pieces.

How bout we trade, rip some of the AP off these epics and throw agi on some and str on others? Enhancement-noobs need love too.

Oh man… there could possibly be rioting here as all the hunters let loose their “EVERY D@MN QUEST IN OUTLAND GIVES SHAMMY GEAR!!” frustrations out.

PS. Grats on the progression, first kills are fun. Nothing like the sounds over vent after you’ve killed something that’s challenged you. :D

There’s a lot of Enhancement Shaman gear around in TBC… that you can sort of fake into being Hunter gear, but it just seems wrong to me. I quite like my Netherdrake Gloves for pre-raiding straight up Hunter Epic goodness, but it’s good to see specific specs getting itemisation love.

Heh… Every time we take somebody new to the Maiden fight, they end up dead due to standing in between the pillars - no matter how many times they’re warned about it before the fight begins =)

The other thing is the guaranteed accidental pull as people are getting into postion around the room. “/y HUG TEH WALL!1!”

Gratz on another epic and the progression.

I find a lot of stuff, especially raid stuff, is this awful stam/int/AP/Crit gear that hunter’s seem to be so ‘Meh’ on as much as I mentally think of it as hunter gear. Imo, if it doesn’t have Str it’s not enhancement targeted.

And don’t get me started on weapons (one enhance offhand between 5-mans and BT), or elemental (tier sets/bop LW or bust). Sorry, it’s just frustration from the paucity of shadowpriest loot pre-tbc carrying over. /twitch I’ll be ok in a minute.

Hey BRK Grats! Could you post up your char screen? Mostly I’d love to see your ranged tab and your mana regen on the spell tab. I bet you’re looking way better with those new gloves :)

    QFT

Attumen, Moroes, Maiden, and The Opera Event are all manageable. The Curator is a wake up call for DPS. I’m sure you’ll all do fine.

The Ebon Netherscale set was significantly upgraded in the 2.1 patch. Stats are now

    25 stamina
    23 intellect
    31 critical strike
    80 attack power
    8 mana per 5 seconds
    blue,blue,yellow sockets
    socket bonus 4+ agility

Making mine later today. (But you’re right - as a profession LW is really underpowered)

I appluad your group for dropping the maiden and you getting your gloves. I got my gloves as well but I am reluctant to put them on and replace my shiny gloves from Heroic Mech. If you want to look at my profile you can see them, Fathgar on Feathermoon. I am hoping for the Beastmaw Pauldrons from the Little Red Riding Hood Opera event but so far no dice.

And if I have anyone call me a Carebear I will have my kitty maul your face while I turn you into a pin cushion with my arrows.

In the case of Moroes you can have the second tank grab agro from one or two of the adds (like the prot warrior NPC) until you are ready to kill them. Rogues can easily tank the priest adds as well. It’s very effective crowd control if you’re short on shackles and trap.

And always leave one add up. Moroes is not leashed but if you need to reset you can force an add to leave the room and that will reset the encounter.

why are you guys using dkp in kara?

  13. gileyman on July 10th, 2007 5:00 pm

Welcome to the land of Purples. Be forwarned, you will lose Agi on every piece you pick up. An increase of everything else, but a drop in Agi. Its a tough choice and hurts but it needs to be done. I used to have over 600 also, I’m down to a little over 500. I’m a sad panda.

  14. Anonymous on July 10th, 2007 5:13 pm

In response Morose is leashed to his room. My kara group takes out 3/4 adds before we go on Morose himself and we don’t have much of a problem. Its just when he vanishes Hunters FD, and everyone else braces for who gets hit with his Garrote. We usually have 3 Paladins with us so a BoP is not too far behind someone that get hit.

    @anon - It’s not really DKP, but SWAPS, a zero-sum bidding system.

Yay BRK for getting some loots! I hope your eardrums are ok Oo. Now if only Kara would start dropping some cloth for our squishies! (not me, I’m good for now, the mage needs some luvin’s XD) ….

AC sounds a bit like Exodus, my current guild. We’re having some issues with Curator ourselves, but it’s a BM run in a box in many ways (with the whole Evocation business being the obvious twist), so it’s just a matter of learning how to handle the adds, so they don’t run amok in your raid and cause your healers to start twitching in their sleep, and maybe upgrading our DPS a little (three more weeks until my Arena pants). We’re currently toying with the idea of having a tanking pet with loaded Arcane Resist, which may just work if it can hold aggro against our higher-powered DPS, but apparently our resident Beastmistress has been having issues with pulling aggro off her boar, so we’re not quite sure yet how it’s gonna go.

And yes, there’s nothing quite like a first-kill celebration. Having been there for Exo’s first Moroes and Maiden kills, it’s quite a thrill (though I’m still waiting for my damned tanking gloves from Maiden). We’ve always had our casters stand in front of the pillars, then just left one open for melee to run off and bandage when cross-healing isn’t readily available. Generally works, though if you get more than three melee DPS/hunter pets, it gets a bit sketchy.

Funny thing about Curator, often times you are told to be dynamic and prepared to move in encounters. For the Curator it works best if you get in position and don’t move for any reason.

Don’t worry so much about AR gear (we don’t use it) and just go with uber-high DPS. One healer should be able to handle the people hit by the adds (HoT) and the Hateful Bolt person.

Burn the adds down fast and have the healers drink a [Greater] Dreamless Sleep potion during evocates as no healing is needed.

  18. Zemulos on July 10th, 2007 6:44 pm

I too am wearing the gloves from heroic mech. But I think I would use the maiden gloves if they dropped, i’d have to get a better look i suppose.

I’m going to give a rundown on the curator here, as this method is easy mode. My guild has downed him multiple times, and the past three weeks, it’s been on the first attempt. We are currently clearing through curator on the first night with no wipes at all. Well, let me start with moroes. You should have at least one shackle, that is preferrable. We have done moroes by shackling all four adds and dpsing him first. (two holy priests and two shadow) But who ever has that party? Typically now, we have shaman, pally, and holy priest for our healers. So shackle the holy pally add which always seems to be there. Burn down whichever priest you get as the first add while the tank does his backwords tanking of moroes. I’m sure you’re all famaliar with the strategy on this part. If you have another caster, trap that guy until the first two adds are downed. If your tank can’t hold aggro on the adds (dps should be all out and aggro CAN be an issue) have rogues use slowing effects. We also had a frost mage kite the prot warrior add while we killed first the priest then the ret pally add, then pick up on the kited mob before killing moroes. And for the hunters that don’t know, save your misdirection until both tanks are on moroes. Then use your misdirect onto the offtank to boost him up on the aggro meter. Otherwise, he will struggle to gain 2nd on the threat which is where you want the offtank to be. Although, the offtank should have a few sec to get aggro on moroes before dps starts on him anyhow. With enough dps, moroes becomes easier and easier. Kara has taught me one thing for sure:
    MORE DPS = LESS OOM.

For curator. This one is a dps battle for sure!! The absolute best thing you can do for your raid is this. Someone needs to be hounding your whole raid about faster dps. Not in a mean way, but reluctant. I am the raid leader for my group. Frequently during curator, I’ll be saying things such as “adds are dropping slow, pick up dps” “adds are going down fast, this is good, keep it up” “that add when down a little slow, we have two out, burn some cooldowns and catch up” Strategies will tell you to save all cooldowns for evocation. I disagree slightly. Save them if you can. But if there’s two/three adds out during evocation, your dps on curator will suck hard and you’ll probably wipe anyhow. So first priority is adds. Period. Communicate people. Now for class specifics.
Druid, oh feral druid. Put your feral druid in bear form and dps gear. Let him spam mangle on adds. LET THE DRUID HIT ADDS FIRST. Druid should tank the adds close to the main tank on curator while ranged dps stays far away. A feral druid makes curator much easier. They CAN hold aggro on the adds well. It’s important to keep adds tanked near curator though, so on evo, the melee dps (rogues basically) can jump on curator fast. Your druid can wear some arcane gear, that’s good, as he will constantly be taking arcane damage. And maybe the rogue if he can do so without saccrificing dps. Everyone else DOES NOT NEED ARCANE RESIST. Please don’t gimp your dps with it.
Hunter specific. You have one major goal. Spec your pet max health and max arcane resist. Put your pet on the curator and leave him there the whole battle. Keep mend pet up and the healer will never have to touch him. If your druid is tanking adds to left and down from curator and rogue is on them and pet is on curator, there is a high probability that your pet/druid/roge take all the arcane damage. This is a HUGE boon. Occasionally the curator tank will take some instead of those three, but really, the curator hits like a girl, so it doesn’t matter, and the tank has a full time healer for this fight anyhow. Once you get curator on farm, this respeccing of pet is not needed, and healers will have enough mana for a quick heal on pet every so often. But in the beginning, spec him arcane resist.
Shadowpriests just stay on curator the whole time unless raid dps is an issue. VT/VE. Also, on tenth add, druid and mage should stay on add, and everyone else on curator during evo. Druid and mage should be able to kill it before evo. If not, play catchup after evo. Motivate your team. communicate about when tenth add is coming. Urge high dps when playing catchup after an evo with a surviving add. This is the raid leaders job, to be an effective leader and talk. But the tank needs to keep announcing the curator’s mana level also, to help out. No one else will be looking at curator or keeping track of what add you’re on. dps, run and bandage if you have to. 15sec of less dps is better than less dps for the rest of the fight because you die.

That is all for now :)

I’m going to try and stay on topic more these days. I sent an e-mail regarding DKP to BRK. We’ll see what comes of it.

In the mean time.. Check out these gloves..

    Another Curator strategy for you.

Hunters on the back wall, about 8 yards infront of them are the healers and casters. Another 2 yards infront of them are the melee guys. And 20 yards infront of them is the Main Tank, Pets and Curator. So the setup looks like this:

    | |
    | |
    | MT | Main Tank
    | |
    | |
    | |
    | |
    | M | Melee
    | C | Casters
    |
    | H | Hunter
    ————–

The melee team pull the Flares to them, feral druid with Faire Fire is good. When the Flares reach the Melee group, then Casters and Hunters can start firing.

When the flare dies, hunters can swap to the Curator until another flare is in the melee group. Flare is the priority though, you will only have time for 1-2 Steady Shots on the Curator.

After 60 seconds the Curator does Evocation. This is a 10sec period (I think) during which your attacks do a tons of extra damage. So finish off any flares that are up (this is very important). And the nuke the Curator, save all your cooldowns like BW for this.

Once evocation ends, then its back to flares until the next evocation in 60sec.

A guildmate has managed a 3200 Kill Command during evocation, which is always fun :) One of our warlocks times Curse of Doom to go off during Evocation and has got crits of 32,000 with it!

If you don’t have it then get DeadlyBossMod addon, it is very handy with visual timers, so you can easily see when the next Evocation is coming.

The requirement here is dps, Flares need to die very fast.

Was totally agog when the Gloves dropped for me too. Got all of a week’s use from them until we dropped the Curator; T4 ftw! Look forward to those!
