We Hate Our Company
We need to answer a question about Snake Traps, but we cannot get a good website for research as everything we try to look at is blocked. We have conflicting information and need an answer ASAP.
Our snakes use a Deadly Poison attack that stacks five times, but individually does:
A) 15 damage per 2 seconds - thanks to Liatra for the confirmation that this is correct
B) 15 damage per 12 seconds
Can anybody answer this? Which is the typo?
Edit: Thank you for the quick responses! However, you see the problem in that there are conflicting notes out there. Some say 15/12, some say 15/2. Can someone go drop a snake trap in-game and report back with the debuff really does, please?

According to WOWwiki, since WOW.com doesn’t have the trap listed:
Place a trap that will release several venomous snakes to attack the first enemy to approach. The snakes will die after 15 sec. Trap will exist for 1 min. Only one trap can be active at a time.
Snakes have their own aggro, therefore this trap has no effect of hunter’s aggro rating.
The snakes have 3 rogue-style poisons:
Crippling Poison: Enemy movement speed is reduced by 50%.
Mind-Numbing Poison: Enemy spell-casting speed is reduced by 50%.
Deadly Poison: Enemy gets 15 nature damage over 12 seconds. Stacks up 5 times.
Snakes applies poisons with spit, not a melee attack (about 8 feet range). Also, if there are unpoisoned targets nearby, snakes will not melee, but will instead spit more poisons on that target, making snakes an excellent AoE boost. For example, if the hunter knows where a mage’s AoE will be, they can place a snake trap there and most mobs at this location will get poisoned.
When the trap is activated, snakes start to attack the nearest targets. It is possible that some snakes will attack one target and some will attack other. After target is dead, snakes attacks next target (in close range).

This from http://www.tacticalgamer.com: The snake trap is hard to catagorize and does a number of things based on the situation and pure luck. Triggering a snake trap will release 8 snakes that attack every second for 15 seconds. The snakes scale, somewhat, with level and have stats that can be seen with Beast Lore if you’re quick about it. There are 4 Vipers (27-37 damage, 6792 armor, 81 hp at level 70) and 4 Venomous Snakes (11-16 damage, 6792 armor, 81 hp at level 70) for a total of 8 snakes per trap. The Venomous Snakes have an 80% chance of applying Deadly poison (90 damage over 12 seconds, stacks to 5 for 75 damage every 2 seconds for 450 damage), 10% chance of Crippling poison (slows movement speed like rogue poison), and 10% chance of Mind-Numbing Poison (increases cast time like rogue poison). The snake trap can be either the most damaging (aproximately 10 physical damage per venomous snake and 20 physical damage per viper every second for 15 seconds for at least 1800 physical damage, 75 damage every 2 seconds for 22 seconds since the poison is constantly reapplied for 825 damage for a grand total of 2625 damage per trap) or the most useless (mob is immune to poison or uses an AoE damage to kill snakes resulting in no/little damage).
Don’t forget that those of us with 2 points in Clever Traps get 30% more snakes. Snakes galore!
The combination of misdirection, multi-shot, volley and 30% more snakes = phenomenal AoE damage for those multi-mob pulls in SV and SL (as long as the tank remembers to stand still!)
I suffer the same problem in my company so I can recommend you to use an anonymizer.
A simple search in google returns hundreds of them.
Happy surfing at work.
Anonymizers are “Instant Dismisal” violations here. We love blogging, but not that much.
BRK kinda off topic but I noticed your crit rate went up since your last post of gear changes. What new goodie did you get? Before you know it you’ll be rocking BM tusk style. 26% crit and 50ap less

Just hopped in game and checked it’s 15/2
+5 BRK Cool Points to Liatra! Thank you thank you thank you!
Yeah, its 15/2, an stacks up to 75/2.
Its great to use when they don’t just get AoE’d to crap.
bah! no points for me? That stinks. I am taking my BW and going home!
How do you get 30% more of 8 snakes?
- Corwyn
It involves mating and science fiction. OH and it’s a dirty job.
“How do you get 30% more of 8 snakes?”
You get 2 more adult snakes + one adolescent snake who doesn’t really pull his weight. He sometimes can’t be bothered to sting. Why should he, what’s in it for him?
Snake Traps … Aran doesn love them and attacks snakes instead of players. A boon to Aran fights!
