Leg Armor Kits Do Not Give One Superpowers
“Dear BRK, I am still pretty much a noob. I do have a 70 hunter, but still trying to balance my gear and stats. My question is on your leggings, where did you get the +40 AP and +10 Crit? I have looked at all factions assuming it was similar to the shoulder slot enchants. Love your site and it is very informative. Mebad”
Negative ghost-rider, the leggings “enchant” isn’t an enchant but a leatherworking item. Yes, leatherworking does make some interesting stuff nowadays. As always, for all your crafting needs, be sure to visit Kaliope’s Crafting Tome.
BRK is currently sporting the Cobrahide Leg Armor kit that adds 40 attack power and 10 crit. There also exists a Nethercobra Leg Armor kit that adds 50 attack power and 12 crit. However, the NLA requires a Primal Nether and thus isn’t seen very often.
For PvP, you might be interested in a Clefthide Leg Armor kit that adds 30 stamina and 10 agility. It too has a big brother, the Nethercleft Leg Armor kit, that adds 40 stamina and 12 agility to your leggings. And it too requires a Primal Nether, of course.

The difference in material costs kind of depends on who you know. If you’ve got to buy the nether from some random crafter then you’re in trouble. If you or someone in your guild is a LW with the appropriate rep (which isn’t that unusual), it’s really just a matter of getting five people together for 30m or so to bomb through to the second boss in heroic ramps or something, and arguably might be easier to get that some of the other mats.
My spiffy new pants needed an upgrade so I went with the 40/10 last night, mostly because I over farmed and had twice the mats I needed to make the 50/12.
But also because the guy crafting the 50/12 for me has guests in town this week and won’t be able to get the nether. He offered to buy a nether with his badges for me, but I said that would be a waste of badges and we’ll just go next week to make me the 50/12. I can live a week with the 40/10.
All of them great patches for hunters though. I really need to plow through LW so I can make my own 50/12’s.

I love the Clefthide Armor Kit. It’s the bomb for tanking pants, and since my best friend has a leatherworker, I give her the Primal Earths (Meddy is a miner, so they’re dead easy to come across) and she takes care of the rest. Handy little arrangement.
They’re great for low level PVP characters too … just one thing to keep in mind though … they have to be applied by someone level 60+, so make sure you have some good BOE pants you can hand over first.
BRK is, of course, correct that these leatherworking kits are not enchants. The correct name for them augments.
Star Trek fans will know exactly what augments are, which leads me to believe that in contradiction to BRK’s title, leg armor kits can give one superpowers
As a LW, I sell lots of the Cobrahide and Clefthide Armor Kits, as well as a few Magister’s Armor Kits (+3 m/5s) to healing folk.
Very useful LW items for groups are the drums. They can make short work of bosses when popped just as the fight starts. I use the Drums of War all the time and they are great value. With a little more Sha’tar rep I will be able to make Drums of Battle as well (+80 attack and casting speed for whole party). These drums are often overlooked and rarely even noticed by the rest of the party!
The drums are awesome. Props to you for using them.
About the shatar drums. They are the best. Its a roughly 7% dps increase for the party on only a 2 minute cooldown. Bring one to a raid and watch as your party goes WTH is this. When I packed them into kara for the first time my raid leader was just like wow… when did the hunter spec into bloodlust(heroism)!
Right - that’s it. You’ve helped me decide that I will focus on getting exalted with The Sha’tar as my next goal.
So many goals, such little time.
