Opera, Curator and Illhoof and We’re Stupid Sometimes

Yap about it and it just may drop. Actually, before the Big Bad Wolf opera event started, we commanded him to drop our gun. He was so spooked by our uberness that he also dropped:So where does that leave us today? After opera we boogied up to Curator and that’s when our problems started. Hobbes went nuts. Attacked everything all on his own and wouldn’t stay by our side at all. We’d kill an arcane add and Hobbes would run right back at Curator.

The boss went down and we lost the DKP-battle for the gloves. We had enough DKP to win, but couldn’t bid the required 20 points more than the current bid. It’s just as well; we got two epic pieces and it’s good to spread the wealth.

But Hobbes was still insane. We dismissed him and brought him back, no help. And then we saw it. Somehow, we put Hobbes on Aggressive after the Opera event and before Curator. So we are again a proud member of the Super N00b Crew; where the h3ll’s our tabbard?

And then we took down Illhoof. It was our guild’s first meeting with this boss and on the fourth try, he went down like 40 year old scotch; smooth, baby. Here’s a little celebratory screenshot, just because it’s fun.

is the decision not to have ratingbuster sum up your stam and mana bonuses a concious one, or have you just not bothered to fiddle with the preferences? I turned them on just to get a better idea of what i was getting, but now switching gear gets me all stressed…

p.s. congrats on the double-loot sunday

Is “F8 is my Aspect of the Hawk/Viper swapping macro” this still true?

If you press CTRL with it, you’ll get “Set pet on Aggressive”.

Better remove that keybinding (CTRL-F8) and click the icon on the few occasions where you want it aggressive…

Gratz on the great loot BRK :D
That is some seriously nice gear you have now.

Is it my imagination or have the drop rates improved for hunters? In the last five days I have had the Wolfslayer Rifle (very nice), the Beast Lord shoulders and gloves and the Outland Striders from Arca. I have been after those for ages and then bang - all in one go!

Perhaps the hunter gods are smiling on us at the moment ;)

    You lucky, lucky dwarf!

Seriously, congrats on getting probably the best loot generation a hunter can from BBW. R&J dropped the pauldrons for me last week (first hunter loot from Kara in over a month), but still waiting on (a) BBW and (b) BBW to drop the gun.

You know that Sonic Spear that never drops? I’d consider it a case of cashing in the loot karma :)

Gratz on the WSR - nice piece of loot for a dwarf - especially with your hit rating (you only need to have 102 HR till hitcap now)

  6. Sayth on July 30th, 2007 9:05 am

I meant 102 HR to be hitcapped, not till hitcap.

Congrats for the loot, especially WSR! It’s quite awesome and if I were you, I wouldn’t waste my precious DKP on Sunfury Bow when it drops.

I’m having the same problem with pet getting on Aggressive sometimes. I found out today that my Steady Shot macro, which is keybound to “8″, is the cause of the problem, since sometimes I’m pressing CTRL for other actions when using this macro.

Gratz on Illhoof on the first try! He’s stubborn for us and has only died once, hehe. Good ol’ CoE dropped Prince Malcheezy on try # 3 last night. A first for us, whee.

@sayth - I think your 102 hit rating is wrong. For a level 70 hunter with 250 weapon skill to hit a level ?? (73) raid boss all of the time they need +8.6% to hit (hey at least we don’t have to deal with the rogue offhand issue). According to the hunter guide linked on BRK’s page you need 15.77 hit rating per 1% hit at 70 so you need 135.622 or 136 hit rating to never miss a raid boss if you have a wepon skill of 350 and they have their defence of 365 (level 73).

Now with the dwarf racial (same for me as troll with sunfury) lets say I’m pewing at gruul. He has 365 defence and I now have 355 bow skill. Essentialy I am a level 71 shooting at a level 73.

The rules for +hit are that you have a base 5% miss rate versus a same level target and you need 1.2% hit for each additional level your target is above you to always hit.

So if you have 350 weapon skill
5+(1.2*3)=8.6% hit or 135.6 hit rating

If you have 355 wepon skill
5+(1.2*2)=7.4% to hit or 116.69 hit rating. to not miss.

If you are the same level as the target the way skill rating works is different i believe adding .04% crit and hit vs a player and .1% crit and hit vs a non player. You can see though where skill points help greatly. Up to 15 weapon skill points every 5 points = 18.9 points of plus hit. Even past this point I think weapon skill is very beneficial to a raiding hunter at over 15 weapon skill you are looking at +1%crit +1%hit per 10 weapon skill points. Of course there are few items with this stat :(

You forgot the Idiocy Option. We didn’t know RB did stamina and mana. /doop

    Grats on the loot man.

At this point we’ve removed kara from our raid schedule entirely.

Somewhat of a disappointment as I was still hoping to get my T4 helm for shits and giggles and the sunfury bow.

I am content however with my Voidreaver Grieves and what not I’ve been seeing off the 25 man bosses, and there’s no more progression for me in Kara anymore. Oh well!

Best of luck with that loot karma.

    @Shifttusk
I think my calculations are correct - the benefit from the extra +weapon skill is not linear.
There is a “sweet spot” at the +5% weapon skill mark, that means, that having +5 weaponskill gives you about 2% more +hit.
I have wrought a more detailed explaination with some examples and mailed it to BRK, but I guess he will need some time to dig through his pile of mail till he finds it ;)
In the meantime I suggest reading http://www.wowwiki.com/Formulas:Weapon_Skill#Chance_to_Hit
