When We Say "Gear Out Buddies!" We Mean, Gear Our Buddies
What did we say our new goal was? Get our guildies some phat purple loot. So BRK joins a pantheon of bloggers in a heroic Mechanar run: Doomilias, Cayleigh, Brigin, Tredezar (who has a blog but we haven’t asked him if we may link to it), and your humble host.
What do we want?
The Sun Eater for Brigin!
What do we get?
That’s what we’re talking about! Calculator respected our authoritah and gave our tank the phattness he deserved.
Not a single wipe until we foolishly went back for Heroic Sepethrea. Her heroic fire elementals heroically burned us into heroic dust. We could’ve tried her again, but we were not gonna let her ruin our heroic night.
Four badges of justice, one super-tank sword, and a big Grats to Brigin, you threat-monster you.

Gratz on the party lootz. That Serpenthia is a nightmare in my experience. I can honestly say I’ve never been in a heroic group that downed her, although my last attempt with her we got her down to maybe 35%, which was sort of a moral victory. If you figure out how to beat her, let me know.
Traz on 01 Aug 2007 at 10:05 am #
Serpenthia really is a pain.
We always have a go at her on the way out and we always leave Mechanar in body bags. Best ever result was getting her down to 20% (with extreme effort).
An Aldor-exalted friend is making me the three pieces of Flamescale mail (fire-resist gear). The mats are reasonably cheap. If the rest of the group have a fair amount of fire resistance too, I am hoping that it might just give us the edge.
Am I right in thinking that her flaming buddies are going to be slowed down in the next patch…..?
Traz on 01 Aug 2007 at 10:27 am #
Ok. It’s Sepethrea and not Serpenthia.
That’ll teach me to copy & paste ^^

Woo, congrats! I’ve run Heroic Mech many times (most number of badges for the least amount of work) and never seen that one.
Also, Sepethrea is a pain. I’ve downed her before, but she’s never easy, and I think our success was more luck than strategy.
I don’t know what it is, but her fire elementals always manage to daze me when they hit. It’s like a silly joke. Not only are they fast, but they slow me down so they can pummel on me all they like.
This makes me a sad panda.
In truth, I think you need two healers. We usually die because the group splits in two to avoid the elementals - and at opposite ends of the room (and possibly chased by an elemental myself) I can’t keep everyone healed. Targets are out of range.
Kelektra on 01 Aug 2007 at 1:35 pm #
every time we’ve downed her, we’ve used the same strategy. The tank (usually furry druid) will move her around in a big oval around the room, and we burn her down and forget the adds. If the tank keeps moving, the adds rarely catch up, and by using the oval-moving method we’re usually out of the flame trails. having a druid tank and/or druid healer really helps tho, cuz they can use tranquility halfway through.

Kekeltra, we can only assume you’ve not done her on heroic since the latest patch. The adds random aggro everyone in the party, switching targets early and often. And I get stunned too, so you’re not alone, egotistical priest. There is no kiting them in an organized fashion. My advice, as others appear to be on the same track, is to skip her. She’s not worth the repair bills, frustration and the one puny badge she gives if you actually manage to kill her on heroic, which I have not seen since they fixed the ability to kite the elems down the hallway.
In other news… FI only effects your party, and not the raid? I thought it was whole raid, but last night, my caster party said that’s not the case, and our BM hunter agreed with them. Have I been delusional?
Rhust on 01 Aug 2007 at 2:30 pm #
yea, TSA is the same way… only party, not raid… I call foul on that! boo blizz for not making it raid wide
tinwhisker on 01 Aug 2007 at 2:39 pm #
She’s a pain in the but but certainly beatable. Give her a couple tries but if you can’t down her, forget about it. You’ll already have 4 badges from a very short instance and the oh-so-wonderful Primal Nether.
And about the rogue comments yesterday:
Yes, I’m a combat sword rogue (easy armory find). And everyone gets to spec however they want (we have 5 rogues: covering all specs/weapons except subtlety). We run two groups through Karazhan every week, I DPS in one and heal in the other.
Yes, mutilate is just as good for raid damage as combat (certain fights/mobs excepted).
We try to take 2 rogues in every Karazhan raid because it’s safe, reliable, high DPS (much like a hunter :P).
I was just sharing what works for us.

zem.
your assumption is incorrect. try it.
kel.
Zemulos on 01 Aug 2007 at 3:42 pm #
I have the kings defender for tanking (sun eater hasn’t dropped for me) Opinions on which is better? I like the hit rating. God knows tanks need it. Average epic tank hit rating… 5-15? /puke
Lauchis on 01 Aug 2007 at 6:27 pm #
For Sepethrea, an off-healer is nice if you don’t have the DPS to take her down quickly. Before I got super geared up, I’d drop shadow and get into my heal gear and help the other healer in the group heal.
Nowadays, I stay in shadowform and pew pew her down. (VE does help the healer out quite a bit.) And we try to kite the elementals around the room a lot. =)
Zemulos on 01 Aug 2007 at 7:06 pm #
Kelek, I’ve probably done more runs of heroic mech than half the people here combined. And every group always wants to try it cause… they like repair bills. The elems randomly attack people throughout the party during the encounter. That is a fact. I’ve tanked it and been dps as my hunter. If you stack fire resist and it works, amen. But I don’t use fire resist for anything else in the game, so not likely to ever have a set of it. They simply do not aggro the first person in the room and follow them around like they used to. Nor can you have someone draw aggro, then run into the hallway, having the tank pick up the boss before she hits the glass to reset. That has been fixed. They’re about to nerf the fight for a reason. In the interest of clarity for the other readers, the tank CAN NOT kite the elems around with the boss. It does not work.
Kelektra on 01 Aug 2007 at 10:12 pm #
but that’s not what i said, was it. i just said that the tank kited sepethrea around the room, and we all followed. i said nothing about the adds other than we ignored them
of course they have random aggro patterns, hence my saying that we were usually out of the fire trails. this isn’t an “i’ve done this more than you so sit down and shut up” from either of us, i agree with you, and am simply stating the way that it has always (before, and after the most recent patch) worked for my guild and those i run with

as i mentioned, the tank that i most often run with is a feral druid, as am i, but in this situation I will usually act as off healer, when the need arises, case in point the tranquility. works like a charm
Wisp on 02 Aug 2007 at 9:34 am #
How we kill Sepethrea, with about an 80% first kill average each run.
1) Stick together (tho this usually falls apart towards the end of the fight!)
2) Get the adds to one end of the room and when they start to nova - every one legs it to the other end of the room.
3) Beat up boss, the adds should about reach you when they are ready to nova again, leg it to the other end.
Zemulos on 02 Aug 2007 at 2:26 pm #
Kelek, perhaps I misunderstood this statement…
” If the tank keeps moving, the adds rarely catch up, and by using the oval-moving method we’re usually out of the flame trails. ”
I interpreted this to mean that the tank was outrunning the adds while kiting the boss. Else who would they be catching up to? If they’re catching up to the other four party members, then the tanks oval pattern isn’t effecting them at all. BUT, I want to say if you are clearing this hussy, more power to you
I gave up on her invincible-add-toting-ass. BTW… is it even possible to kill the adds? Does ANYone do this? Since the speed increase the adds got in patch 2.1.3 or whatever patch it is now, they are just everywhere at once it seems. /sigh
