Two Kara Groups = Much Goodness
Aetherial Circle Kara Group One cleared Attumen, (two pieces of cloth healing gear for the squeeky priestie), Moroes, (plate belt for our off-tank and cloth healing gear for the squeeky priestie, Maiden, (leather DPS-gear for a feral druid and a shard), and Big Bad Wolf.
Now we have small problem with BBW. See, July was the BRK Month of Hunter Loot and last time we were here we got both the [Beastmaw Pauldrons] and the [Wolfslayer Sniper Rifle] on one kill. Um… guess what dropped again last night.
Mmhmm. Both of em. The groans of disappointment were so loud and heartfelt we felt the need to apologize to everybody.
Now we did clear four bosses, including Maiden with only one priest, so it was still a dandy night, (except for the sharding of all that hunter gear; that made our eyes mist).
Let’s talk about Moroes for a moment. The original plan was for one shackle, one trap, one burned down very quickly, and the fourth off-tanked by Hobbes. The off-tank mob was a guy who hits like a truck and we told the raid leader that Hobbes can off-tank him, but only with heals. No heals, dead pet, vicious clothie-smashing mob running amok.
We tried this plan and when the shackled mob broke free and the squeekie priestie had to reshackle - even with a Mend Pet cooking - Hobbes was cut down faster than you can say “GET AWAY FROM MY BUGS!”
So the raid leader changed strategy and had Hathorn, a very good feral druid, shift to bear form to off-tank. Doomilias and I were kinda concerned in that if Hobbes dies he can be rez’d, but if Hathorn dies, he’s gonna probably have to stay dead. He’s our #3 DPS-bringer and losing him would be a Bad Thing.
Even more concerning was the plan that once the second add was killed that Hathorn tank our trapped mob and then DPS would burn that one down, too. We have no problem chain-trapping our mob through Moroes’s death and really didn’t want to tax our healers by asking them to shackle, heal both tanks AND watch Hathorn as he tanked the meanest of the four adds.
Basically, we knew we had the DPS to pull this off but did we have the healing?
Fight began, we trapped, Hathorn tanked. The first mob went down PDQ and DPS shifted to Hathorn’s mob.
“BLUE IS GOING FOR SNOW!” the squeeky priestie excitedly announced in a voice that would shatter glass.
Yes, our trapped mob was running toward us when our resto shammy heal-grabbed aggro and was about to get a big mouthful of pain. Hunter to the rescue! Our lovely little Pull Shot Macro was again the hero.
/cast [modifier:alt] Distracting Shot
/cast [nomodifier] Arcane Shot (Rank 1)
When you need to grab aggro now, you want to use instant casts. Aimed Shot and Steady Shot are both on cast-timers, whereas Arcane Shot and Distracting Shot are instants. Arcane Shot has a cooldown so you cannot fire it twice in rapid succession. However, we can fire Distracting Shot and Arcane in succession, and that’s just what we did. Holding down the proper modifier key, we smashed our heavy Distracting Shot followed by our regular Arcane Shot. This generated enough threat to pull our mob off of the shaman and get him to come at us, right into our trap. Mob controlled, healer saved, raid eternally grateful, yada yada yada.
The raid burned down the second add and Hathorn moved onto our trapped mob. Healing came through in a Big Way and the third add went down hard. DPS switched to Moroes, he ate our DPS-Cookies and suffered for it, falling face-first in the dust.
“Run out now!” someone screamed. Our typical ending to the Moroes fight is to run out and let the remaining adds despawn before we come back in to loot.
“Wait a minute…” someone else slowly thought out-loud, “Let’s kill that last one”.
And we jumped on that idea. Squeeky priestie led the charge with a torrent of high-pitched obscenities directed at our target.
“KILL THAT {censored}!! {censored} HER IN THE {censored}!! SHE’S A DIRTY {censored} {hyphen} {censored} MOTHER {censored} {censored}!!”
So that was fun.
It should also be noted that Group 2 cleared Attumen and Moroes also before an emergency caused their priest to have to skadoodle. Big props to Aetherical Circle’s Kara Group 2!

Hey, Bigred, the gear Cayleigh got wasn’t healing, it was spell damage for her soloing set.
Make sure the raid brings a disenchanter along. People will be less upset about sharding gear when they realize they won’t need to buy Void Crystals for their mongoose enchants a week later.
Congrats to both teams!
Ran Kara the other night …
2 mages
3 warlocks
1 shadow priest
2 holy priests
1 DPS oriented off tank
1 prot tank
Stuff died. Quickly. I mean FAST. Naturally, we got plate, mail and leather. Lots of it. Attumen, Maiden, Moroes, Opera (Big Bad Wolf) and Curator all went down. 2 pieces of cloth (non-healing) total. Curator finally dropped the Tier 4 glove token for mages/warlocks and we rolled 1, 2, 16, 18. Damned Tier 4 gloves went for an 18! But he, we got 6 Void Crystals
We thought it was spell damage AND healing gear? It wasn’t? We didn’t shard it? Cay doesn’t need SOLOING GEAR!
Hey patrick, interesting kara group there. Lots of dps, but all I can think of is the mana worms ;P It will take your group about 3 days to clear the mana worms lmao. You should totally take a screen shot of 6 casters beating on a mob with a staff ;0
I have yet to see a ranged weapon drop in Kara. And I’m over half way to Exalted.
I can only use the Khorium Destroyer for so long before I start going nuts. Prince better be good to me tonight.
Feh, hunter to the rescue? I know you guys go all to pieces when mobs get close, but us shammies carry around shields for a reason. A couple love taps from a Moroes add aren’t anything to get excited about.
Anything but the prot-tank only mobs aren’t all that bad actually (well, for us real mail wearers at least).
I do realize you used Distracting Shot, but how did Arcane Shot(Rank 1) generate enough threat to yank aggro off the priest? Wouldn’t you want a higher threat attack for that situation?
-Brady
We used our regular Arcane Shot for the 2nd shot. For the Pull Shot we generally like to use Arcane Shot Rank 1, but we have it macro’d so that we can slam a Distracting Shot when necessary.
Time to start skipping Maiden imo and start working more on progression.
Of course. I can’t read. Apologies.

@Guy, Why skip Maiden when she’s still got goodies to give? ( /drool on Shard of the Virtuous)
‘Sides, she takes like 20 mins to clear to and take out, not that much of a diversion…. honest O.O
@shutter - The MS warrior was heading for the shammy. OWIE. Mail or not, OWIE. ;P
@Anon - Doom or Me can shard, so we’re good.
ZOMG, I’m so proud of Group two

Oh and Kitty, I got solo gloves. Cause the bracers, though they were caster, were much better than my Shattrath wraps.
Cay,
That’s 20 minutes and whatever time spent killing a boss that could be used on another boss.
She isn’t needed to progress, other are. If she’s still up at the end of the week then go back for her, but spend more time on progressing and killing new bosses.
Ultimately, as much as you like whatever item she drops.. a better item is available down the road. Keep going down the road and everyone progresses, keep doing the same boss though and you’re going to be gearing up less people every time you do it and you won’t get to the bosses that will benefit everyone.
Progression is about advancing as a team, not killing the same boss over and over till EVERYONE gets what they need.
We’ve stopped doing kara completely. It’s likely I’ll never see my sunfury bow. But I’m okay with this because we’re upgrading more people and killing newer bosses than wasting time trying to kill old ones.
Well… Thats why I use Aimed+Arcane+Distracting for the mobs im going to trap - that gives me the freedom to move whereever I want while trapping and no mobs going for the healer.
Depends on what stage you’re at Guy. On the one hand, any week where you let a t4 token rot kinda sucks, on the other if a group isn’t geared enough to make that reasonably attainable, doing the easier optionals gets you closer to the point where the later bosses are more farmable.
When I was semi-regularly leading Kara’s (whole place no farm, but not doable in a night. Two nights for a good run, three for a bad one) I used to skip the optionals if there were less than three drops on the loot table that were decent upgrades for someone in the group.
@Cay Pshaw I say. Poor single-role mail wearers might not be up to those adds. But doing things Blizz never meant us to do is the Shaman job description.
(Tanked stuff on Moroes/HKM/Mag so far, it insulates me against BRK’s ‘lesser classes’ comments
)
We are slowly working our way through kara. We’ve been in 4 weeks now, but as we are pretty casual, we can only get a raid together 1-2 nights/week.
Week 1 - No kills
Week 2 - Attumen Down
Week 3 - One-shot attumen and downed Moroes
Week 4 - One-shot both attumen and moroes
We couldn’t quite finish up big bad wolf last night (12%), but we’ll get him tonight, I think. Maiden is giving us issues, as we can’t seem to get our dispellers to do their job fast enough. I think we’ll be doing attumen, moroes, maiden, and opera within the next week or 2, though. This is the first any of us have raided (newer players, newer guild), so it’s all really exciting.
I’m still rockin’ the SV/MM spec (0/21/40), and have snagged a couple leather drops.
