Aran Down and We Made a Mess
Last week our guild took down Shade of Aran with six people left standing at the end, (BRK had 551 health remaining but he was alive). Yesterday we finished him with nine people making rude gestures at Aran’s corpse and BRK was at 100% health at the end. That’s pretty sweet and a great reflection on how well our healers are adapting and improving. We all know how uber Cayleigh is at slapping down the healz, but our holy Pally Tweeden - he of the level-115 greenie healing mace - and Tredezar the balance-but-heals-too druid, really came through. Big Props to you guys, you rock.
In other news… BRK started a little war.
We’re summoning the guild for our Aran attempt when a single lonely horde rides in flagged for PvP. What do you do? Tell ya what we do, we kill the mo-fo. Splat.
Don’t bring that weak stuff and expect to get away with it. If you get summoned while flagged, that’s one thing; your guild is yelling at you to hurry-the-h3ll-up and you just get yanked into the situation. Drenden may be a PvE kiddie-pool server, but riding in while flagged is assuming we’re gonna be a coward and not do anything. That’s not how we roll.
We attack, it’s a good fight but the hordie goes down. We begin to heal when his three buddies show up flagged. BRK goes splat.
Now the rest of our guild thinks we were fighting the undead NPCs and jumps in. Now we’re all flagged and the horde is flagged and the whole place erupts into a PvP war. Now we’re thrilled; we love this stuff. Our raid leader not so much, especially when our druids all get ganked by two horde rogues.
“WOULD YOU PLEASE QUIT DYING!!” the raid leader bellows. Well that’s our calling card; save the squishies!
The rogues are hiding behind the summoning stone- love Track Hidden - so we set up right where we know they can see us and turn our back to them. Dropping a Freezing Trap at our feet, we stand there looking really stupid and ready to be ganked. A rogue falls for it, “sneaks up” on us…
Poof. Trapped rogue and no trinket to get out of it. Yeeha! Hunter’s Mark, run to some distance dropping a Frost Trap along the way. Intimidation and send pet, Bestial Wrath as soon as Hobbes hits him.
And we stand there and let our pet do the dirty work while we dance.
You know those times you can just feel the hatred coming through the Internet? This guy’s fury was burning so hot we could smell our cable modem smoldering. The rogue is really mad and tries everything he can to get to us, but he hits the Frost Trap and is slowed again. He starts throwing daggers at us as Hobbes continues to rip his leather gear to shreds. We line up an Aimed Shot and start the Aimed Shot Prayer.
“Oh Great Hunter Gods of PvP, we beseech thee for an Aimed Shot Crit. We hold thy names in high honor, we respect the Olde Code, we smooshed the enemy squishies as is required. May we look favorable in your eyes and thus bless us with a 3000+ crit to end the suffering of this toon, for he needs to taste dirt and realize he’s been pwnd and had the Smacketh Laid Down Upon His Person. Amen.”
Bam. Aimed Shot crit for 3417 and down goes the rogue. We don’t smoke but sometimes we can understand those who do.
/victory dance
/flex
Then we got ganked by four, including a horde BM hunter.
/smile
Oh, and we have a screenshot of Warlockbob taking a +20,000 crit from Netherspite. That was really funny.

Yeah I’ve prayed for Aimed Shot crits myself. Most important it came after I’d killed a Shaman that had killed me a bit ago and I see a warrior come up to help. Well, I finished off the shaman before the warrior could get there and trapped him in a freezing trap. Proceeded to get distance and did an aimed shot that crit him. Not enough to take him down but I continue shooting on the run and got him in another frost trap. Low and behold I then got a second aimed shot crit to take him down. It was great fun.
The Hunter gods lay Praise upon The Great BRK and Hobbes we shall Beseech you with as many 3000+ crits as needed to down thy enemy.
HUNTER GODS OUT!!!!!!!!
On PVP servers there is an extra World PVP objective. It’s called the Kara Summoning Stone. The area around the entrance is strewn with the bodies of the fallen.
Lol, I am horde, as I’ve mentioned before, but BRK, I have been in the same situation as you. On MY server however, horde typically does not flag unless they’re planning to fight then and there. Alliance on the other hand… they don’t walk flagged alone. More typically, you’ll see one flagged alliance and 10 unflagged. They try to bait horde into being ganked. It’s a standing joke that the alliance are too chicken for a one on one fight. And it’s true, when I was leveling my first toon, it took me many times of one cheap trick before I learned my lesson. At that point I believe in the general goodness of people. I learned differently. What was the trick? One lone ally… all by himself, unflagged, challenges me to a duel. Seems fair. He flags in teh middle of combat and quits the duel so that i strike him, then his buddies all run in from nowhere. This is cowardice at it’s finest. I made an uberdps hunter just to wtfpwn allies. But I digress. Karazhan brawls. I as raid leader used to bitch at my people when one person would flag to attack someone else, because it delayed us starting… and because we had some who hated pvp action. However, one night one of our summoned people came flagged from a BG and of course, 6 alliance jumped the ONE horde guy. I had had enough. I told the raid (over vent) we were all going outside, and we were going to rape the alliance, as a RAID group, NO ONE was to stay out of the fight.
(enter Gladiator music)
We destroyed them. They were all flagged, but for one or two from ganking my raid buddy. And when we showed up, the others flagged too, but we had one feral druid and two rogues entering as stealth, so they thought they had us outnumbered. ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!?
Now the raid rule is that no one flags to engage in kara pvp unless we’re all there and ready to do the same. We have had a few brawls since then, and we always own them. Last I heard, ally outnumber horde 6:1 on our server, but I think the truth is more like 3:1. But despite the numbers, horde kicks ass in pvp.
Nice one. I hate rogues and they deserve all the smacking-down you can give them!
welcome to everyday life on a PvP server …. Meh … happens everywhere
carebear servers blow … should always have to look over ur shoulder when in a war zone.

on a total tangent, BRK, whatever you posted in the upper left hand corner of the blog today seems to be causing issues.. at least for some of us with “firewall” issues. Display is all distorted.
and speaking of ganking and what not, got my taste of GY HK farming in AB last night. I’m not real fond of getting killed 30+ times in a row, and the other lazy ally not coming to help out.
I said that same prayer after I slept a mage in the arenas but before the aimed shot went off..
I was blessed with a 4125 Aimed shot crit on him.
I was suprised to see that only went through about half his health.
The Hunter gods though really wanted this guy dead, cause Master Tact popped and the next 3 shots ended this guys life.
Sucks to be mages.
@karl
thats where the years of being on a pvp server has brought different skills … 99% of the time i can get away with one deathflop
@Guy
nice crit gotta love it when a plan comes together

@anon
it was 8+ horde lvl 68+ ganking 4 low-60s ally. We weren’t going anywhere.. we got hit as soon as the rez came.
(But I did return the favor for a slight amount at their end in the next BG.)
On my old server of Undermine, Rogues would stealth at the gates to Kara waiting for that person not paying attention.
This is when the war like BRK described above would happen and actually be more fun than the trip into Kara.
Real world PvP would be so much fun if implemented right.
My first WoW experience was on the Horde side. I had an Undead Lock and was about level 25 or so when I had my first PvE realm PvP experience. Some friends and me were waiting around a road for one friend to come back from an AFK. We got bored and decided to /dance. While we were all dancing a couple of NElves came running along and stopped next to us. After a couple of /nod’s and /wave’s they began to dance with us. 10 seconds or so later they /goodbye and began running off, but about 10 yards out one of them flagged. We all wondered why this stupid NElf would flag when we had four of us and two of them, and especially after having a friendly interaction. Anyway, the dancing stopped and we immedietely began stomping the NElf juice out of them. Needless to say it was the first time I had actually felt an adrenaline rush in an MMO. I came from some intense tournemant fights in BF2 and missed that rush. I have since turned into a PvP junky and love seeing someone flagged.

BRK I think you’ve officially become my hero for that story, especially for the prayer to the Hunter PvP gods.
And this is coming from a troll hunter XD
I love the Kara PVP. Our guild used to gripe about when people would pvp outside of MC/BWL/AQ, but now when we are at the meeting stone it is expected. We have a blast and then go into Kara and do some farming.
I hate it when one dude PvPs while we’re prepping for a raid. It makes the raid start late.
@ anon, that’s why I tell my guild that either no one flags, or we all do. If we’re all flagged, then group buffs work just fine, and we’ll unflag at the same time. A trick if it causes you problems though. Have everyone flag for pvp (once inside) and then immediately unflag. Everyone’s pvp will wear off at the same time, but you can go ahead and do group buffs so that there is no time delay
Thats a really great story!!! A very similar incident happened to my guild outside of Kara. I was flagged when they summoned me. I saw a flagged frost mage. I love Felix’s prowl. Super useful for the suprise attacks! Also being a NE I quickly stealth as Felix goes in for the opening blow.
Out of nowhere out pops a flagged priest… Not in shadow form, Felix is still stealthed inroute to destroy the mage. I quickly decide to kill the heals first and CC the mage.
I quickly change Felix’s target to the Priest. Soon as he gets there I pop intimidation on the priest to give me a five second window. Hit the Mage with an aimed shot… BOOM 3000+ crit… Quick auto, arcane, steady, auto finsih him off.
Intimidation has worn off at this point, and Priest fears Felix. I turn my focus and hit him with concussive shot. Quickly do as much damage as I can trying to lure him into a frost trap to slow him again. I turn Felix and myself into big red killing machines and destroy the crap out of the Priest as he turns to shadow form. After about ten seconds… Dead priest!
They must have screamed this over vent or TS,”(Bleeping) Hunter!!! KILL HIMMM NOWWW!!!!” From that point. It felt like all of their team turned around and wasted me.
They camped me for awhile… My raid wanted to start. My raid leader with a very precise fear scattered them just long enough to open the gate, and we both escaped.
I recieved hoots and hollers from my team mates. Made me feel good about being a Hunter!
