Yes, But We Expect Faithfulness
“Dear BRK, I run a level 17 horde hunter and I have been reading a lot of your hunter articles in order to optimize my leveling and also learn how to play a hunter more efficiently and correctly. However, one of the worst aspects of the game for me is all of the slow running one does before getting a mount at level 40.
“I was wondering if you would recommend where to fit in pathfinding talent (at what level, etc.) so I can speed up my Aspect of the Cheetah while running around finishing quests. I have no problem re-speccing at level 40 once I am primarily riding around as well. John”
BRK’s thinks to himself…
Wow. Pathfinding is one of the absolute worst talents we have. We just cannot recommend it.
BRK rethinks…
Hmmm… Faster running equals faster leveling. The dude is respecing once he gets a mount anyway. You know this may not be the worst idea ever… but it could be abused…
OK. BRK Decree. If you wanna take Pathfinding to help you level, we’re gonna give our permission. This is, of course, contingent upon you respecing at level 40 once your get your mount.
Scratch that. Hold on. Let’s do this official-like.
The BRK Oath for Taking Pathfinding
I - state your name - do solemnly swear that I shall spec Pathfinding for the purpose of faster leveling until I attain level 40. The instant I ding 40 I shall stop grinding and all other activities, purchase my riding skill and my mount, then go immediately to my hunter trainer and respec out of Pathfinding.
I will have all the necessary gold to purchase my mount, riding skill, and a respec before I ding level 40. I shall not allow my chosen profession, my significant other, my love of instances, PvP, the Auction House, any entity, physical or emotional problem, or act of Elune prevent me from fulfilling my contractual obligation to keep my mind on my money and my money on my mind.
I understand the failure to live up to this promise prevents me from attaining my BRK Hunter License until such time as I provide incontrovertible proof that I am not a Huntard.
So Sayeth BRK, So Let It Be Done.

My hunter is lvl 40 and I didn’t feel like I was hindered by the running speed. But then again I have a 70 lock and having Cheetah makes running about so much easier than my other toons.
One regret: if I had only gotten around to getting Exalted with Darnassus so I could have a riding kitty with my nightsaber *sigh*. Oh well….

Better idea, save the respect cost. Go into the battlegrounds, get the AB boots, minor speed increase, Nice.
Another thought, what talent are you going to lose for pathfinding?

Man, you must really hate Pathfinding
but yeah, once you get your mount, it sucks. I would rather put the point in Imp. Res Pet (and that’s saying something!) at lv 40, but I can certainly see some advantages before. Long treks through Ashenvale or Barrens come to mind

Sounds nice, but using AotC is good enough for me. Not having a higher level to twink my now main Hunter out, and having low level greens to work with, I rather stick to the talents that increase my pet’s overall DPS as well as mine.

So BRK, a while back you said you would compare a really fast gun to a slower bow. Have you done this? Do you intend to? You got spanked multiple times by folks who mentioned that you’d clip your autoshots with the faster gun, but you never really responded? Just hoping that post dies a silent death? Or are you going to come clean and admit you were wrong?

I’m now 53 and happily made it here without using Pathfinding! That’s just a waste of TPs: you *shouldn’t* be running around and *not* killing things on your way!
Until you get your mount, you’re not allowed to run: walk instead and grind everything green or above! Very few % of your time will be spent running in places where you get no XP from the kills, so it’s just a waste of TPs that could be better used elsewhere!

We’ve been a little busy clearing Kara and haven’t yet sprinted off to PTR-land and had a nice long talk with Dr. Boom.
We were REALLY hoping Prince’s bow would drop so we could kill two birds with one stone, as the saying goes.
As for the Auto/Steady/KC Macro Debate of 2007, it’s not a dead issue, no.
Neither is asking people to put forth the effort to register before attempting to incite a riot.

fast gun vs slow bow … that’s been theorycrafted to death on many forums.
excellent post on ElitistJerks forums ….i would give a link but if u can’t find it , u won’t understand it anyway.
bottom line, 2.7 works good for BM and 3.0 works excellent for MM, 3.0+ works good for SV.
these are generalist views only as minor details can make a huge diff and i’m not going to do a thesis on this.
@BRK
trim that eyebrow ….. lol

Not having Pathfinder has never been an issue for me, you get used to it actually. So buck up lil’ Hunter and get to killing and worry less about your feet.

As we learned earlier in the world of comments. The eyebrow raise is an indication of the amount of rage/threat the target is building. The higher the ‘brow, the more you are getting. Careful young sec, you incur the wrath of the hammer of smooshing. Although, hunters can’t use maces, so it’s more like the thermonuclear device of smooshing.
BRK may be an arrogant SOB, who can’t spell or type or both, but he does have some good smarts and can do math fairly well. We won’t question his manliness about the raspberry latte either, for he has proven his manliness with the uh..err capt..err marriage to MrsBRK, (i suspect like all men, he married way up though) and he launches rockets or somesuch..so…

Running around is my least favorite aspect of the game. It’s torture that some classes don’t get any sort of speed up until they get their mounts at 40. I think it’s one reason I leveled my Shammy and Druid faster than my Warlock, though I rolled the Warlock first. My Hunter is just a baby, on the verge of attaining AotC. I can’t wait!
Someone on 29 Aug 2007 at 12:29 am #
AotC is something I rarely use! Even before getting a mount, I’d only use it while in town moving from place to place. On the outdoors, with the guaranteed daze, you either find yourself not using it so as not to get 100% dazed, or moving around mobs so as not to turn AotC off and thus taking larger paths.
Also, unless going back to starting level places, you can get a lot more XP from killing stuff on your way back to deliver a quest than you get from simply running around: instead of using a road, go cross-country and grind the mobs on the way: more XP, more loot = more gold and who knows when that one mob was the one that would be giving you a nice drop for yourself or to put in AH!

I used pathfinding on my grind from 20-40. It was pretty sweet, I was the fastest thing on 2 legs in the newbie zones.
I would not try to level to 40 without it.
There are some really long runs that you all might have forgotten about since you were little. From the gadget bird out to shimmering flats racetrack, the long alliance run out to scarlet monastery, uhh, trying to get from ANYWHERE to anywhere in STV pre-40. Its just running along a road.. grind WHAT?
