It’s Called: Second-Hand Popcorn Stench

BRK » 30 August 2007 » In Blog, Gear, Non-WoW, Professions, PvE »

Our leatherworking is at 369 and we’re sick of Thick Clefthoof Leather. Sick, we say!

We are making a new macro for our drums. It will go something like:

/yell The Drums make you Powerful! All Hail da Drums!
/use Drums of War

Our email situation is, once again, completely out of control. Whatever we don’t answer tonight is probably going to get unanswered. We’re really sorry, but we’ve long since passed the point of being able to personally answer each and every question you send us.

OH! Speaking of that:

BRK’s Top Ten Quick Email Answers

10. The addon is Rating Buster.
9. Hobbes came from Winterspring.
8. We like guns, but if you like bows, that’s OK.
7. There is no secret to leveling a level-20 pet to 70 quickly; it just stinks.
6. You don’t need to be spec’d for Super Traps to run heroics. BRK has no bonuses to traps at all but does heroics or Kara successfully every day. But you and your tank and your party better have a plan to deal with resisted traps or you’re going to wipe.
5. We can’t get you a job writing for WoW Insider; our editor thinks we’re cute and all but she’s got a business to run.
4. We won’t send you any more pics of TJ in a BRK shirt, or any other types of pics either.
3. Yes, it’s fine to pop in on Drenden and say Hello, just don’t try to engage us in philosophical hunter debates when we’re running Karazhan or a heroic, if you’d be so kind.
2. WoWHead.com has a great gear-search tool that can answer your gear-questions better than we can.
1. Yes, we really are married and Mrs. BRK is really that pretty.

Is it just us or does the new Warcraft Armory server not update frequently? Fast-switching is good but accurate is first and foremost, Blizz.

Ran heroic Sethhik Halls and got our third Primal Nether. We’re ready to make our Ebon Netherscale armor once we hit 375 Leatherworking.

We were just told that a hunter in our guild is wearing cloth shoulder armor. Caster gear. This will require a delicate touch:

“WHAT THE {BLEEPING} H3LL ARE YOU {BLEEPING} DOING?! RUNNING {BLEEPING} KARA WITH {BLEEPING} CLOTH SHOULDERS?! {BLEEP}!!”

That sounds like a good lead-in, nice and concerned.

Nothing ruins a cup of coffee more quickly than microwaved popcorn. If you eat popcorn at work, go to the designated Popcorn-Eaters Section. It’s next to the dumpsters now because the smokers b!tched about your stench, too.

Cloth shoulders > Hunter asking to join my arena team with spell damage gear.

Or of course, a 61 marks hunter with spell damage gear.

I DONT KNOW WHY, THERES JUST NO POINT!

  2. Indy on August 30th, 2007 2:34 pm

Yeah, in a recent Kara raid a second hunter had on some +str gear, as well as twin axes that had str, sta, and axe skill rating… He melee’d on Attumen, and didn’t make a *single* Steady Shot the whole run.

    He *barely* outdamaged my cat.

The guild alliance blew up, so I don’t have to figure out how to tell him how to play, at least. (Though I had managed to convince him to start using his crystalforged war axe, at least.)

There’s another (60ish) hunter on my server who has spell damage and +nature damage gear (or at least he did) as well as +str items. OK, I could see having to use a shammy quest item if the other stats are better, but leggings of natures wrath?

Prolly still thinks spelldmg gear ups the damage from arcane shot.

Nothing is more infectious than the smell of Microwave popcorn, and there are days I would rather smell a smoker over that stench. But whats even worse is the scent of an entire batch of burnt theatre popcorn that you can smell throughout the whole theatre.

You can get your own job at WOWInsider, they are hiring. Goofs.

    Ugggggh, burnt popcorn smell

I think there isonly one thing worse than burnt popcorn smell and that’s burnt popcorn taste

  7. Zemulos on August 30th, 2007 3:44 pm

This is not the appropriate place to post this, but I’m hoping it gets to BRK like the email I sent him :) There is a haste nerf for patch 2.2 >_< What can you tell us about this change and how it will affect hunters? Specifically BM hunters?

Anyone have any info on this?

  8. Sonvar on August 30th, 2007 3:48 pm

Yeah the wow armory is out of date. I’ve added sockets to one piece of armor, switched out four pieces of equipment, and gone up two levels. Yet somehow I’m still only level 67 with all that old gear and almost nothing socketed. The odd part is that if I do a search when it lists my level it at least shows 68 but that should be 69 as I dinged that last night.

  9. Sonvar on August 30th, 2007 3:49 pm

Oh and I do appreciate the times you have responded to e-mails.

#8 addendum: If you are a dwarf, you have a bonus to guns noobs!

And a BRK question, and question for the MM and Surv lurkers here.

For agi, sta, and int, what is the optimal ration of these for each build?…

    BRK’s seems to be about 2.5 - 2 - 1

    Is this ideal?..

  11. Tyns on August 30th, 2007 5:09 pm

Butter popcorn is bad. White cheddar popcorn is worse. Ranch Doritos = king of smelly snack foods.

Awesome Post as always, I am getting addicted to my morning laughs while sipping coffee and trying to decide how to get out of work for the day (sick, suicidal, morning sickness of the Wife).

CLOTH WTH! Kill him as a example to the rest, if the pet gets its nose in the tent ideology comes to mind, best to nip that in the bud before it affects the troops.

And lol at the can answers to the repeated questions, I love the fact that people think you have a “Fort Knox” depository of TJ pics in compromising positions, are the that dumb, look at Mrs. Brk I don’t think God would find your body if you stepped outta line.

Whooo that was a long winded banter…..

    Bastages! I haven’t eaten a kernel in 5 years, I can’t imagine why though!

    /lurk mode on

@Zem the haste nerf is to itemization only. It is going to change the % haste given by haste rating.

    Things to note:

    1) Serpents swiftness, frenzy, ImpAOTH, Rapid Fire, Berzerking and Cobra Reflexes are not impacted since they work on %’s not haste rating.

    2) Dragonspine Trophy will provide the less haste to ranged/mele than Quags eye provides to casters. GG bliz heroic loot better than a 25 man raid drop!

    3) Haste to gloves will no longer be the secret best hand enchant, infact it will suck.

The main effect of the nerf will be sealing MM’s fate in raids, MM dps could catch up with 30+% crit and good haste items but this nerf will pretty much ensure its not going to work.

Prolly still thinks spelldmg gear ups the damage from arcane shot.

Ha! We make that same joke about the spelldmg buff in Botanica.

Also, I confess I’ve worn cloth shoulders (and belt) the odd time, because the +Agi kicked the everloving crap out of what I was wearing with leather, but it does beg the question: Agi on Cloth? The hell? Does it really do that much for your wand? I mean, granted, it’s low-level cloth, so maybe it’s still at a point where the wand is kind of relevant, but geez.

And since we’re talking about levelling gear, what the hell is with all the +Spirit? Do I look like a damned Resto Druid? Would it kill them to make a few more Agi/Stam items, or even, God forbid, Agi/Int? Pet survival is obviously FTW, and while I have fantastic mana regen, I’ve also got a pretty shallow mana pool. I’ve turned aside a couple of minor Agi upgrades because I’d be gaining +3 Agi but losing +8 Stam or +6 Int thanks to frickin’ Spirit. AAAAAAAARGH!!!!

Isnt the haste to gloves a 1% haste? So wouldn’t it too then be unaffected? While i have you in a good answering mood… HOW much hit rating can I give up again due to now having my troll weapon racial? And if I were (theoretically) to go SV, the surefooted talent adds 3%… so how much more hit rating could i then drop?

  17. Anonymous on August 30th, 2007 5:57 pm

Okay,,,I have to disagree… the worst smelling snack food is Frito’s. They smell like old stinkie feet.

    /shudder

  18. TrojanGuy on August 30th, 2007 6:02 pm

Popcorn is delicious! I think the main reason people complain when other people at work make microwave popcorn is because they want some of it but would feel weird saying “Hey, can I have some of that popcorn?”

Also, Rating Buster is really helpful (although on my Druid it never seems to know that STR increases attack power and instead says that x STR gives me y +healing).

  19. Anonymous on August 30th, 2007 6:30 pm

“Isnt the haste to gloves a 1% haste? So wouldn’t it too then be unaffected?”

Unfortionatly no, when they did the combat ratings it went from 1% haste to 10 haste rating which is .95% haste right now at 70.

“While i have you in a good answering mood… HOW much hit rating can I give up again due to now having my troll weapon racial?”

I’ve seen conflicting things on the web but with regards to raid bosses the one that made most sense was since you’re firing with a level 71’s wepon skill you need “1 level” less hit rating to hit him so 1.2% or 120-121 hit rating. For reference I’m troll, use sunfury and with 120HR didn’t miss a single shot in 2 months of raiding on that kit. I now have the +bows etc pants off doomlord and have 359 weapon skill and still do not miss :). If you could find an acurate link on this i’d be astounded.

“And if I were (theoretically) to go SV, the surefooted talent adds 3%… so how much more hit rating could i then drop?”

8.6 needed to hit at “??”/73 boss with all attacks. -1.2 for the racial -3% for being a surv = 4.4% so 70-71 hit rating. But check the 1.2% on wepon skills. Its annoying though our SV bot is up to 744 agil unbuffed (like 950 in raid) and he’s now lagging with some other people gearing up. I’m hoping its not his playstyle. I’ve read many positive things about surv and my dps sure went up but his is falling rapidly.

Most food heated at work smells weird… why? Because it’s at work and we’re breathing canned air, recycled farts and sneezes all day!

NO! The proble with the Popcorn of Evil is the sheer stupidty of some folks with setting it to burn cycle 9 times out of 10, not because I smell it and want some, quite the contrary. But each their own I happen to Love Nato (spoiled soybeans) and it smells like vomit, so maybe I shouldn’t poiint fingers, though in my defense I NEVER eat it at work much less nuke it. It’s all about “Group Mentality”, it’s like the folks that load up the sink with their dishes thinking “Rosie” is there to clean up the mess.

Thank you shift. It’s rather annoying that these things aren’t accounted for in the paper doll numbers. Makes gear swapping comparisons harder to manage. And what’s your armory btw? I want to see what your gear looks like to get to 744 unbuffed agi. I think if i spec to SV, I only get about 600 I think… Can’t view armory from here :) I’m assuming you have gear from 25mans that’s making the difference, but I’d like to take a look nonetheless. Thanks man!

  23. Anonymous on August 30th, 2007 7:30 pm

    Hey Zem,

I’m not the surv baby thankfully. Surprisingly enough alot of the better survival gear I have is BOEBLUE or 5 man. I’m back to BM chart topper right now you can check me at:

    http://armory.worldofwarcraft.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Mannoroth&n=Shifttusk

I have some 25 man loot but not too much, just T4 shoulders (which I swap with arena2 for shorter fights), Dragonspine and the Legsies off of Doomlord Kazzak which are ssooooo hot. (like 191ap using agi gems not ap).

When I was survivalist I swapped my heroic neck for the JC crafter neck with 2 red sockets. I swapped my kara ring for a pathfinders band. 15 agil instead of haste on gloves obviously. I think I had my agi in the high 600’s unbuffed, this was before my new pants so that woulda been another 28 agil or so. I’d link our survivalist but I’m not sure if he wants me to. You can find it easily on the armory look for the other hunter in my guild that has the kazzak pants (scaled greaves of the marksman).

Surv looks like dookie on paperdoll. I drop from 35x dps unbuffed with good ammo to I think 301. My crit was rediculous though I was in the 34% area but I’m also at 26.8-27.4% as bm depending on shoulders. I can 100% say though don’t go speccing survivalist fully till you hit 25 mans. EW is way less effective than FI in Kara.

Our survivalist is right now 0/20/41 but I’ve been toying with the idea that 7/20/34 would provide better results. Just remember if you are going survivalist the Necklace of the Deep (JC) is like the best neck for raw agility. The kara ring is crap, as is 1k marks while garonas = sex. If your weapon has savagery get rid of it for survivalist although I support 35 agil over savagery for all builds. Get 15 agil on your gloves. You should also look at regemming +16ap to +8agil. I’ve pretty much done this on all my gear as BM and noticed more dps this way.

I recrently went from like mid 430’s agi 1800ap as BM with 23% crit to 541agil 1700ap 27%crit and I havent looked back.

I’m likewise at work and cant peep your toon. I’m taking a day off from raiding today to finish some stuff at work but maybe ill harass zem?

What’s all the fuss about Cloth Shoulders? I checked the guy (yes, I’m that patient to check all 70 hunters on your guild!) and they’re not THAT bad: +29 STA & +25 INT is not bad!

Being WoW such a bitch on drops (thinking of a well known hunter and a long-time-wanted-still-not-dropped weapon!), if that’s the best he got so far, why skip it just because it’s Cloth?

That’s dumb reasoning: almost like “OMG: I’m 40, I have to ditch all leather items and replace every single piece of gear with mail items!”

-5 BRK points to BRK for not checking exactly *what* piece of cloth it was and joining the “OMG: Hunter with cloth: LOL” bandwagon…
