Now Those Are Gloves of Quickening

BRK » 19 September 2007 » In Gear, Stats »

“Dear BRK, I have actually never seen the gloves the maiden drops in the 10+ times I have killed her but they look nice. I have the ones that drop in heroic mech. The T4 gloves are so very similar to the ones from mech. Can you please help me compare the maiden’s gloves vs the gloves from heroic mech? Furio and Vash.”

Let’s do take a look at all three pairs of entry-level epic gloves and see what we can see.

Handguards of the Steady (HotS - drops from heroic Mechanar)
486 Armor
+29 Agility
+22 Stamima
+21 Intellect
Attack Power +54

Gloves of Quickening (GoQ - drops from Maiden of Virtue)
507 Armor
+22 Stamina
+24 Intellect
Blue Socket
Red Socket
Socket Bonus: +3 Agility
Crit Rating +17
Attack Power +52
4 Mana per 5 Seconds

Demon Stalker Gauntlets (DSG - token drops from Curator)
528 Armor
+28 Agility
+24 Stamina
+24 Intellect
Attack Power +58
6 Mana per 5 Seconds

DSG > HotS, period. Any questions on this point? Probably not. The difference isn’t huge but it’s easily seen. More RAP, Stamina, Intellect, Armor, and MP5.

But what about the DSG vs GoQ? That’s a little different story, isn’t it. Because you can customize the GoQ as you need, if you are deficient in an area and you build the GoQ to fill those holes, these might be a better fit for you.

How so?

You’ve Survivalist spec and have oodles of Agility and Crit. But now that you’re in Kara your lack of +Hit is hurting you; you’re missing a lot. Also, you’re burning through your mana too fast; you need mana and more MP5.

You snag your GoQ and get your friendly Jewelcrafter to make you some speciality gems.

For the red socket you get a Glinting Noble Topaz. With this you get +4 Agility and +4 Hit Rating.

For the blue socket you get a Dazzling Talasite. Slapping this in your gloves gives you +4 Intellect and 2 MP5.

Now your GoQ look like this:

Gloves of Quickening
507 Armor
+7 Agility (with the +3 Agility socket bonus)
+22 Stamina
+28 Intellect
Hit Rating +4
Crit Rating +17
Attack Power +52
6 Mana per 5 Seconds

Is this a “better” setup than the DSG? Maybe, maybe not. If you need the +Hit and mana-reserves and regeneration, we think it could be considered such.

Let’s experiment further and put two Balanced Nighteyes (+10 AP and +6 Stamina) in there.

Gloves of Quickening (GoQ)
507 Armor
+3 Agility (socket bonus FTW)
+34 Stamina
+24 Intellect
Crit Rating +17
Attack Power +72
4 Mana per 5 Seconds

That looks more like a Marksman-PvP set of gloves, doesn’t it; good pure-RAP and higher Stamina. If that’s your bag, if that’s how you like to spec and play, this is probably a nicer setup than the Tier 4 gloves.

How about the BRK-favorite Agility gems and compare that to the DSG.

Gloves of Quickening (GoQ)
507 Armor
+16 Agility (no socket bonus, so not +19)
+22 Stamina
+24 Intellect
Crit Rating +17
Attack Power +52
4 Mana per 5 Seconds

Demon Stalker Gauntlets (DSG)
528 Armor
+28 Agility
+24 Stamina
+24 Intellect
Attack Power +58
6 Mana per 5 Seconds

That looks almost the same, but weaker in the RAP-department, 68 vs 80. By this analysis, one could say that for pure DPS the DSG are a better choice than the GoQ with Agility gems.

The GoQ allow you to use gems to address any deficiencies in your gear. The DSG provides a very good but locked set of stats. The only direct comparison that matters is yours.

You’ve Survivalist spec and have oodles of Agility and Crit. But now that you’re in Kara your lack of +Hit is hurting you; you’re missing a lot.

I have read, read and reread this and it doesn’t make sense.

SV has agility and crit AND hit. In fact, SV has more hit than anyother spec.

So the statement bothers me. A SV hunter would put full agi gems or AP gems.

regardless, in my guild, our hunters have a shoot on site policy for hunters using +hit gems.

There is plenty of +hit gear out there that you don’t need to be wasting gem sockets on.

I’m going so far as to say that Demon stalker gloves win everytime.

EXCEPT when compared to my Gauntlets of the Dragonslayer.

    Then I win.

I’ve been pretty lucky of late in Karazhan and when the T4 token dropped this past week, I passed. I have the Mech gloves and figured since I already had a purple in that slot, I’d wait for the mages and ‘locks (at least the ones in the regular run) to get their tokens before I get mine.

This was an exercise in adaptive-methodology. Assumptions were used to examine a theoretical situation and possible solutions. It is our philosophy that extreme accuracy is not nearly as important as the learning process itself.

In the course of answering, “Which Gear Is Better” questions, we’d much rather teach hunters how to analize gear themselves than give blunt and curt summaries.

That’s the skill they really need, whether they know it or not.

I totally see your method of teaching BRK and ignore the trival details that one can use to pick apart anything you write about. The core message of your post is right on track for what we need to know and anyone wanting knowledge will find it here.

If I was authorized to issue out BRK cool points I would give you +5 for your teaching skills. Keep it up, love the blog.

    @Guy
Surv has +hit built in but only +3% but, unless you are Draenei, Dwarf(with gun), or Troll(with bow), you still need about 5% more hit rating or about +80 hit rating. Yeah, Kara has a lot of hit gear but what if you replaced pieces and now are below that ideal hit rating? Not saying it will happen but its not out of the realm of possibility.

So what we’ve comeback to is the established fact that I succeed at being a hunter, but fail at being a writer/reader.

    Shocking.

No, BRK’s methods would have been more accepted had he dropped the use of a given spec and left it to simply state: “If you are interested in raising you hit rating”.

Instead he made statements about a spec which actually doesn’t lack hit rating at all and then made generalized statements about said spec (have oodles of Agility and Crit.

So in reality, a gagillion more posters can comeback with “gg brk, don’t listen to the nay sayers who point out every little mistake”

    But it wouldn’t matter.

@Sonvar and others. I know this class. I also know BRK somewhat. I know surefooted is only 3%, but I also know it’s godly.

Come to BRK’s defense if you must, but he can handle my critisms on his own, he has before and he will again.

It’s not my intention to sour this communitiy the way our class forums are, but merely play the tongue to BRK’s Cheak when he taunts me the way he did here.

In short, bite it. If I don’t see eye to eye with the man I’ll let him know.

PS: I love the picture BRK.

As an SV hunter, I would never use GoQ if I had access to either of the other two. Hunter itemization in Kara tends to be low on agility (unlike the sweet rogue gear there.)

If I had to use GoQ, I’d recommend socketing it with 1x [Delicate Living Ruby] and 1x [Shifting Nightseye] (4 agi 6 stam) to get the socket bonus, 1 less agi, and the stamina (multiplied by SV talents.)

    @guy
Wow I actually haven’t been ignored by another poster.

I understand your point that he could’ve taken the whole Survival spec out of it and I’ve read enough of the posts/comments to know you don’t mean harm or to sour anything. I find most of your comments to be much more thoughtful than anything I can come across on the wow forums or a lot of the comments that get put on Wowinsider after BRK has a post. My whole point is more that while unlikely it is possible a Surv hunter might need some +hit gems.

PS:I can’t find it anymore but I was curious about yours or a good survival build.

    @brk
I almost feel I shouldn’t be looking at this post while at work because of that picture lol.

Huh? There were gloves in that picture…

So the question I have is with the last set up. Is sacrificing 12 AP worth gaining 17 Crit Rating or .76% crit. This is what I’m struggling with. You can look at my character on the armory Shaiten - Thorium Brotherhood server.

Thanks for any responses, and BRK I just recently started reading your blog and really enjoy it. First change I made was to my character was adding in the 2 points for the Pet Hit Ratting. Thanks again.

Your postings are so timely sometimes. Quite uncanny.

I was lucky enough to get the T4 gloves just last week. The GoQ were my previous gloves and they are great (I love gems). After much deliberation, I decided to use both pairs.

This fits in with your general approach to educating people. After your many (so many) teachings, I feel that I can make an informed decision on which pair to use for each particular situation.

The further we progress through the game, the more difficult it is to try and decide which gear is ‘best’. Sometimes the answer is simply “neither is best; it depends what you’re doing“.

Hi, just to let you know that the WoW Gem Finder moved to a new URL: http://www.wowgemfinder.com (used to be wowgems.jponrails.com)

And sorry about those gold seller ads, it’s either that or jewelery ads, and nobody clicks on those ;)
