Pets, Polls, and Fel Reavers
The results are in and they match what we observed: 13% of you got a new Ravager to play with like we did, only 5% decided to get a Raptor. What we though was truly amazing was that 12% of you are running amok without a pet at all.
Sweetness.
Our Ravager came from, of course, the Netherwing mine. We had to beg and plead for the people in there to just leave us one and not kill it, but get one we did. We haven’t done anything with him yet, not even name him, as we went scooting to a heroic Ramparts run.
Here’s how Aetherial Circle saddled up for a heroic: BM hunter, hybrid priest, boomkin, feral druid tank, and feral druid DPS. The key was the Freezing Trap resists. If the trap wasn’t resisted we destroyed the trash. If the trap was resisted, we almost always wiped. The hard parts were easy, but the easy parts were where the traps were resisted, natch. We died six times but all bosses were taken down.
And with three druids in the party, of course every single drop was plate. /sigh
Anyway, we’ve been hitting our head against a brick wall trying to bring some sense of aesthetic beauty to the Blogger poll. We surrender; it ain’t happening. So to outside sources we go. If you’ve been refreshing the page like crazy all morning, you’ve seen us trying out four different free polls to see just how spiffy we can make something without going insane. The Vizu people seem to have made a pretty nifty java-based poll that we can put pictures in and change the colors to match our theme. If you’ve got opinions you know we want to hear them.
And we think we need to make something crystal-clear. About Fel Reavers as hunter pets. You would not believe the number of guild-forums that have sprouted links to us and people declaring “BRK says we’re getting Fel Reavers as pets!” and other people in their guild saying, “N00B!! He’s just kidding!”
We need to set the record straight.
Fel Reavers as hunter pets. Totally. You know it. We wouldn’t lie. It’s all true, 100%.

Vizu Poll is very cool, probably the coolest I have seen!
LaCucaracha, the only Ravager pet name period.

Ok BRK, I am such a noob I suppose because at this point…I’m not sure if you are joking about the fel reaver pet or not! Everytime I think I am certain you are either joking or not I see something that brings the uncertainty back…like the “/crosses fingers” in barely noticable white text at the bottom of this post. I have tried to look it up but work limits my access so much I can’t find anything out….Now just tell me you are kidding around…?
Fel Reaver - Type Mechanical
Tame Beast - Only works on “beast” typed mobs
Seriously come on now people.
While you probably know this, I thought I’d mention that it’s not a good idea to judge pet performance pre-level 6 loyalty.
I mention that only because I’ve had some friends try windserpents, ravagers, or scorpids (pre-2.2) and they’d claim they suck right after they tame them. I kept having to say, “Wait until you get all your training points and then make that claim. Right now they suck because they don’t have X trained ability that your other pet does.”
Oddly enough this isn’t true for Fel Reavers. Every hunter on the PTR seems happy with their Fel Reaver. Word to the wise: stock up on some defias before you tame the reaver. If you forget and have nothing to feed it your healy friends will be doubly pissed if you need to train a second.
P.S. While you’re in the ‘try a new pet’ phase pick up a Wind Serpent. If you macro in LB you won’t be disappointed.
Then why, oh great Shift, does the new taming spell on the PTR say, “Tame Beasanical” ?
HMM?!?!
zomg ravagers ftl simply for having zero aesthetic value. that being said please name it crusty crustacean.
I skewed your poll by voting no pet. Haha I so funny!
The real question is…Prowl and Dash 2 worth it or no?
Szablya is wanting to know.
I am thinking in PvE that dash and prowl probably don’t matter as much. In fact, maybe only dash would be necessary for times when you want them there or here right now. Still, one has to love a ghost saber in prowl. Well, you can love it, if you can find it.
Here’s what I don’t get. We’re hunters. We’re supposed to have a bond with nature, yada, yada, yada. How in the world do we make this great leap to “charm” an automaton? Seems a little out of bounds to me. HOWEVER, you can bet I will be taming one just so I can get me some of that rogue booty.

If the /Fel Rever is a hoax…. then I can only assume that going BM spec FTW is just another ruse for BRK to laugh at our expence.

So long as it don’ get in the way of me tanking, I don’t care what you hunters tame or can’t tame. I would, however, pay serious gold for miniature Fel Reaver non-combat pet.
just like blinkstep for rogues, the fel reaver pet is true.
i seed it wif mah pwn shiny yelow ayes.
You know Shift, this may be a no brainer to you but after Wed night when I was playing a low lvl alt pally I have and seeing him STILL on the gryphon he rode from SW to Westfall once I was in the dungeon….I do not doubt anything! No kidding, I have a screen shot of my pally, lvl 17 sitting on a gryphon in the VC instance…I told all my guildmates that were in the grp with me that Blizz loved me so much they let me having my flying mount early and in Azeroth lol. I figure this to be all fun and games and kidding around…what’s the harm in playing along?
“Then why, oh great Shift, does the new taming spell on the PTR say, “Tame Beasanical” ?
HMM?!?!”

Do fel reavers get +atp vs gnomes? Or does somp automaticaly keel tham?
If you forget to gather your pet food, don’t worry too much… you’ll have 30 minutes to feed it before it leaves you. Too bad he won’t eat little hordies though…
While I truly appreciate the humor of this post( /scratches head, rolls eyes at people who really believed it)
It got me thinking as an engineer, that the “fel reaver” pet, much like the mechanical yeti would a nice addition to the engineers bag of tricks. And unlike the yeti who stays small, u would get a 10 second buff that u can activate like BW and he’ll expand to normal sized fel reaver and squish locks, mages and shadow priests…/evil grin

Anon, its a precursor to the new “uber-hunter” hero classes… one will be ranger, but the other will be a technology-based warrior.. (finally the engineers will have someone to sell things too!)
I heard that the fel reaver will also eat random gnomes… especially the ones with the crunchy armour shells.
@adelorac
hey, don’t even think about taking the fel reavers away from us hunters! besides, be happy! you are getting engineering flying mounts!!!
… for various definitions of “small”.
I think it’d be rather amusing for engineers to be able to make small fel reaver pets - say, about the size of your typical shredder (grin). And to fit the typical absurdity of a gnomish device… non-combat, but BoE.
I suspect Ratshack wouldn’t be the only player dropping serious gold for such a pet…
another thing that hasn’t been mentioned yet from the PTRs. New 41-point talent “Mechanical Wrath”. Your fel reaver’s attack speed is doubled, and it does a transformer-change into a very large cannon. Yes, it is red. However, in this mode, it is stationary, and can only attack mobs that are within range.
Another rumored requirement with be that of requiring engineering as a profession, as mend-pet won’t work on the reaver, so you will need to create the engineering field-repair bots to “heal” it.
whutz a pet?
*runs away giggling*
@Karl, hey I’m a hunter and engineer..=O
Although I did forget that with most gnome or goblin engineering there’s always that inherent risk that your creation will backfire on you and u will die some in some unconventional manner…. “hey my fel reaver isn’t working…Oh noes!!…squish! /rez
@adelorac
Then you’ll be glad to hear about the engineer-only gun in WotLK, the Ornate-Reaviurium-Maximum rifle. You will need the carcasses of 20 fel reavers to create it. Sadly, you won’t be able to add it to your flying machine mount.
Speaking of engineering and guns… is there any point in making the engineering guns, or would it be better to just get to revered with HH and get the veteran’s musket?..
Oh damn I heard they’re already nerfing fel reaver pets in PTR… apparently rogues started QQ-fest about the x-ray vision skill, so instead they’re changing it to a different skill, called “undressing you with their eyes” and apparently it only works on nelf and belf females. The mechanic (or purpose) of that one is still a mystery to me.
@Karl
The gyro-balanced khorium whatzamabob is a lousy hunter gun. Tanks love it though with it’s excessive stamina.
I’m calling my Ravager MrSnips
I am so glad I found this blog! I had been mis-informed and tried to enslave a Fel Reaver with my lock, when it’s a HUNTER pet. Doh!
@Karl….crunchy armor shells. That’s funny
LaChucaracha LMAO best name ever.
@ Rahronkas
Yep, think M&M’s with legs….
I don’t even want a Fel Reaver anymore. Not after the latest patch. As soon as it hit, I went out and tamed a level 70 leper gnome. The gore vs bite debate? Not even an issue now. Rank 7 Ankle-bite is far superior to both. In addition, the combination of the the +5% dodge and the increased aggro generation means that the Leper Gnome is the superior tanking pet.
As a wise man once said
“It’s All True… Especially the lies.”
@Karl,
LOL
Hey is ORMR a world drop? or do you have to kill that big azz Fel Reaver over at the black temple using only mining pick?
