We feel like Mr. Rogers; we have lots to talk about and we’re out of time. It is late so we’ll revisit some subjects tomorrow:
Hobbes’s Claw damage and how the lack of Bestial Discipline affected our DPS, (initial reports are good.)
How Shatter affects the damage report and can that data be purged, (inital reports are not promising.)
Why IAotH may make it look like we we’re using even fewer specials than we’ve been accused of in the past, (not true!)
Our Tier 4 Leggings token dropped, we didn’t win it. Our Dragonspine Trophy dropped, we didn’t win it. Oh well, we got Legacy this week so that’s all we could reasonably ask for anyway.
And this is our 700th blog post. Quite the coincidence that its purpose is to report the biggest kill of our WoW career.

What mod is that for the damage report?
Buttons - Bartender 3 and Cycirled.
Damage Report - WoWWebStats, and it’s not an addon, but a web site and Java applet that use your combat log to build the online database.
Not topping the damage meters - five rogues is a lot of melee DPS for Gruul. We whispered Doom, the rogue class leader, and told him that they’d better pwn the hunters’ faces in the DPS category if we were going to have a chance to beat Gruul. We were very pleased to see that they stepped up to the challenge.
BRK was neither #1 total damage nor #1 DPS and that’s fine; no single person can defeat these bosses. It’s a coordinate effort and we’re proud that we did our job.

one thingi notices from the screen shot, in a fight like gruul, is it not better to have a pally bless might instead of salvation, you can feign enougn and have a complete aggro wipe.
FYI your top healer, Crux, is labeled as a Shaman in WWS… although I’ve never seen a shaman do quite that much healing with the spell “Holy Light.”
piss poor showing by me in the dps department…485? i guess at only 84% dps time thats ok. i was off last night…i just couldnt keep myself in a good spot during the cave-ins. thank god deoin knows what hes doing during those.
my shining moment came at the last 1% when all three tanks were dead and i managed to evasion tank him. dodge + dodge + dodge + dodge ftw

Another thing, is dragonspine trophy really worthwhile for BM. I would think that you’d be clipping shots due to GCD?

We dropped Gruul for the first time last week.
Went for VR for the first time the next night and got him, too!
Here’s my WWS from the Gruul kill… I managed to botch the combat radius stuff so the guild data is missing a lot of information, but my personal numbers should be correct:

Highest DPS or Mana Efficient. You can pick one or the other, or some combination. But mana efficiency does not automatically equal high DPS.
What happens is that people get into the Auto/Steady mindset and start thinking that haste isn’t as incredible as it is. Why is BM so powerful? Serpent’s Swiftness and the 20% attack speed increase.
Don’t worry about Auto/Steady during massive haste bonuses. Use that time to let Auto-DPS flow and recoup your mana.
… aarggghh! We have an entire post on this subject; we don’t want to spoil it.

As for the AS/SS macro, I cannot think of a single fight where I have the ability to stand in a single spot to spam a single button. Fights are dynamic and you need to be able to adapt, and I find that I get more auto shots in by not scripting my shots. As for Mana efficiency, I use Superior Mana Oil, Aspect of the Viper and Mana pots, that is what they are for.

Gruul is one hell of a fight. You get to point and shoot for a while, duck for cover when cave ins happen, micromanage your pet and then scurry to find a safe place during shatter.
When you can do your standard shot rotation, you can only do it for so long, so you have to use your specials (except for aimed of course) when you have to hightail it out of danger’s way.
I just wish one of the hunters in my guild would stop running straight at me during shatters now! Thank goodness for Fel Blossons! Now he dies and I don’t!
I tried using as many specials as possible last night on Gruul and went OOM VERY fast. I need to pace those better from now on!
We got Gruul at growth 16, our best yet… and here’s where it gets funny! The last person standing was a holy priest and a serpent sting got the killing blow!

What is it with Draenei that they are the lowest on the polls? Heroic presence not only means it doesn’t matter whether I use a gun/bow/crossbow it also means those around me need less hit rating and give my pet a 5% hit rating instead of the normal 4% I’d get from Animal Handler. Or if I went Survival I’d only need about 4% more hit rating.
Draenei are lowest in the polls for two reasons:
1) We screwed up the poll and forgot them for the first three of so hours, then added them.
2) People didn’t roll them when the expansion came out. Okoloth probably has stats on how many are actually out there and we’ll bet their representation at the 70-ranks are really that low.

Grats on the kill and kudos for living through 4 cave ins. that many will always mess up ur shot rotations and trinket bombs.
with that said, i never blow all my haste shit at once after wasting that much mana on specials. only to downgrade my haste to autoshot to regen. i don’t think i ever saw a 1:1 rotation or even close? thats why ur dps is so low imo. steady should be ur #1 shot, not below hobbes melee. but up to u , just trying to help. i tested every conceivable shot/trinket rotation, or combination thereof, on Dr boom. and the way u did it there doesn’t produce the results ur setup is capable of doing. yes, 2nd on the damage is fine but i’m talking what u could really do.
question. if Lamaa is doing the opening MD, why aren’t u doing a MD on the OT? u just have to wait till the MT grabs agro and ur MD won’t do anything but put the OT in 2nd place on the agro list. this saves a lot of clothies on their opening burst. and u have to continue doing that if the OT isn’t in 2nd place for w/e reason.
how many growths was he at when u guys killed him. our last kill we got him in 9. a first for us. of course, still no DST for me …. arrrggggg.(btw just for interest, we had a lock and pally 2 man Onyxia …took forever, SS on website)
agree on the salvation thing. get might and i know u know that, prob just forgot at the start of the fight. i’ve done so many fights with my “Hi atk pwr” riding crop still on …. lol …. /faceslap.

To continue with the stats. compare the 2 hunters.
Avg of Lapetus = 947, BRK = 684. That is a lot. Of course items make the difference but look at how much damage is done by his steady shots. Focus on your shot ration BRK !
I now realize I made a mistake on my post about starving hobbes of focus for his claw!!! His Claw was accounting for 15% of TOTAL damage, not 15% of HIS damage!
Now his Claw accounts for only 4% of total damage, so unless IAotH made up for the other 11% (which I hardly doubt it would!), then you’d be better off in the old setup!
But I’ll wait for your post on that!

Hunters should never have salvation on. The 30% reduced threat applies to your misdirects as well. You have feign death you should not need any other threat mitigation. If you see salvation on you click it off and ask for Wizdom and or Kings.
@Teh BRK - Don’t worry so much at your DST. When you use one of the faster weapons like the WSR you don’t see as much benefit. It works best if you stack a slower piece like the sunfury or serpentspine or arena. Where I gain rougly 50dps from the trinket with sunfury you see about 15.
But either way awesome stuff. Like people said shot rotation will help some but big thing is your whole raid pickedup the pace good stuff. I may have to re-roll minitusk on your server come hang out with you

Gruul was being a total ho-bag that fight, especially with the cave ins. It felt like I was spending more time bandaging myself than DPSing. :/ Plus, there were some range issues because he seemed to always ground slam the MT to the most mathematically perfect spot FURTHEST from most of the ranged DPS. Rarg!
We had him down to about 3% when he knocked out one of the two remaining tanks. He took out the last tank about 10 seconds later. We only had about 3 dead until then, and dear god were those last couple percent the longest.
I saw him running for me, tossed all the DoT’s I could and died with a wrath leaving my hands.
Great showing by everyone. I can only hope that my respec into improved faerie fire has something to do with the rogues’ success.

The DST is great for hunters as long as they have a sunfury or slower weapon. For rogues however its the single best dps trinket period. They can stack haste to the max and never run into mana consumption or clipping issues. Almost all T6 rogues will farm pugs for this trinket if they dont already have it. Its a stright 10% dps boost easy.
Congrats on dropping Gruul. As a non-raider, it’s pretty cool to follow your travails through the raiding game. Keep at it. You know there’s lot of us cheering you on.

you couldnt be more correct. haste rating is the most wonderful dps boost for a rogue. faster attacks = more hits = more proccables proccing. when timed properly, with slice and dice, abacus, and a haste potion…well, visions of E.Honda…

Oh hell yea and you sound like me, while I was still pveing there was my goal to get the highest paperdoll screenshots possible. I had one not flasked but well buffed party wise in heroic mech. I got my autoshot up to 1032 dps and pet was rocking at 280 or so. I think this was: Beastial Wrath, Troll Berzerking, LW 7% haste drum, 15% imp hawk proc, dragonspine and a haste potion. The dst is beautiful its just annoying as a hunter its not a perfect trinket if you are using donsantos or basicaly 2.7 or less speed weps as BM. Now if your marks or survival i could see this being money all the time.
And by they way E.Honda sucks what was the chick that hit real fast. She was hot!

Grats. I still wonder how my guild takes out gruul with such slacking dps some times, and I love seeing groups pull it together for their first time.

Holy crap! You do nothing for DPS, but you’re still on top! Wow. Get better players. (I’ll WWS my next Gruuls with real players. I hover around 1k DPS as survival. = D) I think you need to learn to play your hunter a little more, there, BRK.
Otherwise, congrats on the kill! Personally I would suggest Lurker, VR, or Solarian for your next fight. They turned Solarian into one of the easiest fights in the game, imo.
