BRK Movie - Moroes
Tell ya something. Making a movie where any mistake you make in your play is going to be shown to everybody is really nerve-wracking. If you think WWS reports are something to fear, try recording a boss fight.
We can go out and do a “Here’s how to kill a cobra” movie and when we make a mistake, just move on to the next cobras. Not quite the same thing in Karazhan. If you kill a boss but make a colossal error, it’s on film and you’re going to have to show it to everybody and their grandmothers on your blog.
Having said that, we did make a movie of our guild taking on Moroes. It was stressful for everybody involved. They knew we were filming this and nobody wants to look silly. If you watch and see something not quite right, please don’t turn this into a “Whatcha should’ve done is…” forum. Focus your attention on the hunter and what he does. This is a hunter blog and we’re putting ourselves out there for your entertainment and instructional viewing.
Download the full 24MB version here. And for giggles, here’s the WWS report for that fight.
For those who care, here’s the WWS for Prince and Aran.
Massive quantities of sustained, ranged DPS. Chain-trapping. Pet-tanking. Squishy-saving, (or at least attempting.) The hunter class is a whole lotta of fun.
Edit: If there was ever a time to delurk and say you like/dislike the movie or have other comments, now is it. The more feedback we get the more likely we are to continue to spend the extra two hours putting these together.

brk.. you da man.. posting this on my guilds forum right now to help all the newer hunters in kara. Keep these up.. I’m learning alot and my guild will appriciate it i’m sure
Great video. My guild is new to Karazhan, and have so far been unsuccessful up to this point. This will be good to study and make adjustments accordingly for when we meet him again.
More movies with commentary would be great. Being able to download the full version to see the numbers even better. Thanks brk
When I try to see the large versions I get a message “QucikTime is missing something needed to show this. Unfortunately the necessary item is not on the server”. This is with Windows Home and Firefox. Ill try IE.
No joy with IE … says downloading, then nada
Grah. Stupid computer, disconnecting me when Moroes was at 48%. >.<
At least I was able to help kill off the adds and didn’t DC before then.
Mudge, reinstall iTunes/Quicktime.
I enjoy the movies. I’ve downed Gruul and VR but had never fought in Kara till recently and Moroes the other day. Nice to see how to do it from a hunters point of view.
Wish the videos were a little larger so we could see the shot rotation, pet spells used etc. Keep up the good work dude.
I very much enjoy the movies … that said, don’t burn yourself out making them! =)
Very nice work there, I was wondering, what are the stats on Hobbes? My kitty has only around 5300 health unbuffed, and big meanies in instances take him down pretty quickly. His 12.5k armor is his only saving grace.
Hobbes has anywhere from 7000 to 10,000 health, depending on buffs. Hobbes cannot - and we mean CANNOT - tank the melee adds on Morose without heals. The casters, yes. The melees, no.
But because the raid knew Hobbes was going to tank, he got heals. Look at the WWS reports and you’ll see he took 39k damage and received 46k in heals.
Very, very cool video. I especially like how you run across the room for chain trapping - gaining a few extra seconds for trap to cooldown while the mob runs from one trap to the next.
I’m curious - what attack do you use for the trap pull to ensure that the aggro stays on you and doesn’t shift to a healer?
We like a combination of Distracting and Arcane, and an Auto Shot if possible. We want as much instant-threat and total-threat as possible so the healers don’t run up the trapped mob’s threat list while trapped.
Healing aggro is proximity-based, so you’ll notice that we tried to keep our trapped mob from running through the healers who were standing on the table. Chain-trapping him around the room gives us maximum time for the mob to run while staying away from the healers.
If we had needed to, we could’ve trapped our mob a fourth time and longer…
And we are not survival spec’d.
As for seeing a larger view, download the full-sized movie and view it full-screen. The H.264 codec does a very nice job and the full-screen view of this compressed movie is pretty good. You can see us slamming keys and everything.
Thank you so very much for this video, BRK! And please keep them coming, even though your written communication skills are superbe, there is just nothing like a movie to show little me how things are done!
For everybody having problems running .mov files (I highly recommend downloading the full version for better quality), use VLC ( http://www.videolan.org/vlc/ )
One question. Which addon is it you use for those nice reminders (Traps ready, Kill command ready etc) in the middle of the screen? I am looking for something that reminds me that Bestial Wrath and Rapid Killing is up again.
Again, thanks a lot! I know how much times goes in these things, I hope you has as much fun making it as I had watching it.
“Burn his ass”, hehe.
Well done BRK. This is why I continue to come here.
We use two timer systems, Cooldown Timers and Karthus’s Hunter Timers, (both are linked in our sidebar). They give us the nice warnings.
Great Video! Thanks for posting.
Our guild is nowhere near Kara, but we’ll keep this stuff in the archive so that when we do get close, we’ll have a frame of reference or, really, a guidebook =)
BRK, great video. I also enjoyed the commentary of yours. You got good steady voice for narrating, maybe a bit too high pitched but that’s just me:)
One thing though since you did ask for delurking and feedback. The video felt a bit “dry” sound wise. Not much sound there besides your voice and sound of the hunter shots:)
Surely some well place soundtrack could spice things up. Ride of the Valkyries ftw as they say.
I greatly enjoy your blog, hope you’l be doing this for a long time.
Very interesting and informative. Thanks for adding a useful commentary instead of the speed metal/techno I usually find on WoW videos. As a balance druid it was also great to see what your moonkin are doing through the fight. Keep up the good work.
Delurking it is. I’m a brand new WoW player, but I like to research how to do things, thats just how I am. Previous to this, Lassira had a really good instructional video on chain trapping, but this is taking it to a new level.
Personally I liked the video without music, that way there was no distractions. If people are looking for a music video there are tons out there. This was by far the best instructional video I’ve seen. Trying hard to not be a huntard, this video helps me with that.
So yes, keep them coming, sorry for lurking and never commenting/writing you emails (??) but I check this blog everyday. I’ve yet to raid, but when I get to that point, I feel I’ll be more ready then some.
Thanks,
Terrokar
Durgan and Puddin
Cooldown Timers it is, thanks for pointing that out.
Also voting for the non-music version, unless you want to sing a little;)
No music.. keep it informative.. Music always messes things up and its harder to hear people.
Delurking in progress…
Love the video. This site is the reason I rolled a hunter in the first place, started fiddling with macros (Pull Shot Macro FTW!) and started learning to play with BlackGhost (my renamed Humar, kudos to anyone who got the Cyborg009 reference) on passive. I constantly rely on this site to learn more about the class so as not to embarass the lot of us with huntard tactics.
-Amizande (yes, female NE hunter, feel free to commence laughter) and BlackGhost, on Blackwater Raiders
Leonid, I’m certain that BRK will use Ride of the Valkyries in a video the exact moment the patch giving hunters Napalm Shot goes live
I’m with the “no music” crowd, I’m not watching these things to be entertained, but to learn.
All that’s missing are freeze frames with diagrams ala Madden, but that’s asking a bit much
Freeze frames and slow- motion. We already have our NPR play- by- play with BRK. =)
It’s one thing to hear about how to do it and another to actually see it done. Good work. I can’t wait to see more.
/cast Delurk
Great video’s, BRK. Very nice to watch these from Hunter POV. Say no to music.
Many questions arose from this vid, but will have to wait til I get home and watch again.
Great Job! Nice to have videos with instruction rather than just music. And the full size is great - can actually see whats going on!
Never thought to place second trap that distance - will try that next time I am in this fight.
@ smokybg
ROFL! I love the smell of…. well, you know the rest.
BRK: wonderful!! please please keep these going. I agree with those who have requested no music — let as much of the REAL sound come through. Commentary was GREAT…. even more so if it was done on the fly and not in post-production :-).
As far as your guild mates in this video, I am VERY grateful you allowed us to see your play style. Don’t sweat the “mistakes.” That’s why end game is so fun and challenging… even those of you who have Kara on farm status can still take casualties. It happens… how you deal with it is far more important.

I’d love to see a kiting and pulling video, for example a pull to the main tank etc.
I think it would be a great teaching tool.
Huge thanks for the movie and for all of your movies. I’ve managed to get the chain-trapping “basics” down but this movie helped me to learn of some of the nuances to improve my traps– this movie was sort of like the 200-level class to the 100-level trapping class.
Definitely keep it up, I’ve learned a lot so far and I’d love to see more, especially with the narration describing what you’re doing.
From a technical standpoint, this is almost all we need. I would love to be able to read the logs, but understand if that isn’t possible from a technical or a social (guild) perspective.
From an information standpoint, this is fantastic. Comments are great, the view of the fight is better than I usually get for my own fights,
skills explanation is very helpful.
Got more out of this one video than every other WoW video combined. I feel guilty asking you to keep spending two extra hours doing this, but you should know that I greatly appreciate it.
Thank You So Very Much,
Corwyn
for Kafsha and Shaelee
LOVED the movie, great job and great narration. I’m a relative noob to the game and haven’t really done any of the Raid stuff so all of that is new to me and it was very fun to see it played out. You can read all day about how it’s supposed to work, but seeing it in action is a different deal entirely.
I’ll be sure and download the larger version to peruse later.
Cool Video BRK. I’ve done this role many times on the Moroes fight and being able to sit back and watch the video is cool. Among other things I gained from it I just thought of a small thing I am going to try to remember to do.
If the aggro is good on the tanks Moroes always comes right back to the same place after vanishing. If I switch my pet to stay at that spot he doesn’t waste that small bit of time running back from me to him after every vanish. Small thing but everything helps.
Shammies are good pet healers. If I chain heal the tank the bounces will hit the rogues and pets so I’m not really taking my focus off the first priority and still able to help keep him up.
I want to say that although I am only 62 and I am far aways from the end game raids, I really do appreciate this video. It is sometimes hard to do imagine the techniques you read and I believe it makes playing a hunter’s role in a raid much easier. Thanks so much.

Mistakes will be made, and I would even like to see some of them if there is something to be learned from them. Sometimes one can learn more from a wipe or a mistake recovery than from a perfectly executed one-shot.
Also wouldn’t mind maybe hearing some examples of the vent chat taking place as well, not necessarily every video, but once in a while it might prove helpful.
Thx for your devotion to this project.
YO BRK, are your damages separated for Hobbes and you? meaning does your damage come up one side and his the other? if so, could you maybe screen print your settings, please? I’ve been looking for a way to see Szablya’s damage separate from mine on the screen.
Other than that, great movie on how to take down Moroes.
Thanks for taking the time to post this, BRK! I agree that an instructional video like this works much better without music. It was great to see some of the things I’ve been reading about in action — chain trapping, remembering to turn off Growl when Hobbes became an offtank, and how to position yourself. Oh, and Legacy looks great :o)
Wow, BRK, -amazing- video. As a pally tank in Kara all I can think is, “Jeez, I wish we could convince our various hunters to go BM instead of insisting that MM is the only way to DPS.”
Absolutely brilliant.
A very impressive video and a well-executed Moroes kill as well! Loved the calm commentary too. Very slick.
At the risk of sounding like the old muppet guys up in their box… more! more! we loved it!
Keep the videos coming. And keep posting the full versions. It is so much easier to see what is going on with the “crispy” version.
I look forward to more visual lessons.
Wonderful Job BRK
/applause
You earn your pencil thin mustache, beret, and director’s chair!
I’ve learned much from your posts and am constantly referring them to fellow hunters on my server.
Thanks again.

Aw, that was COOL!
Every video teaches me…More please.

Before I express my opinion concerning your videos, let me first say you provide a valuable service here on your blog. That being said I personally feel a little ripped off to see the videos go from relatively easy pulls (the Cobra vids) to straight to boss kills. I’m not saying that the vid is a bad vid, just maybe you should have posted a vid about dealing with instance trash mobs somewhere in beteween the solo vid and the boss vid
I also vote no music. It would be just a distraction from the narrative and the demo itself.
They best thing about this is it gives people a visual representation of trapping etc… So, that I can point to it and say that is what I’m trying to explain.
Thanks BRK … reinstall of iTunes/Quicktime let me see the large version. Great job, keep it up.
Zak, time is our limitation. On Thursday we were grinding leather and cobra scales, so we made a movie about that. On Friday we were scheduled for Kara, so we made a movie about that.
Saturday was no-WoW night, so we made a movie about that. But Mrs BRK won’t let us post it.
It’s all fine and dandy reading about boss fights and watching them, but this was great. Being able to see a boss fight from the perspective of the class you play! Thank you!
Great movie BRK. Keep’em coming. My guild just started being able to reliably down Moroes each week and I’m always on chain trapping the melee add duty. We usually save him till the end, after Moroes is down.
Tygoren and Guenhwyvar
Are you kidding? I love the movies. Thanks to BRK good ole Flap(Gurubashi)is running dungeons.
BRK is on my list, the goos list!
Thumbs up! I was expecting another movie with trance music but no, it was helpful commentary! Even better. Yays.
Great movie and sans the music made it better IMHO.
Very interesting video. Only just found your blog, courtesy of a friend, so still a lot to absorb.
I’ve already figured out that my 43 Dwarf has been a semi-huntard so improvements are due.
Looking forward to more in the future.
Keep it up!
That was AWESOME! You make it look easy.
Fantastic Vid. Keep ‘em coming.
Youre doing a great job! Love your site and learning a lot from you, thanks for the contribution.
keep it up and hf
Dear BRK,
You are my hero. I read your blog every week, and I always learn something new and crucial. Of course, I’ve only been playing since August, so I have a lot to learn!
My guild is all newbies, so we’re still on little dungeons instances and not into raids yet, but when we get there, I’ll be ready!
My healer was duly impressed when I saved his butt with a well-placed ice trap recently. I’m still practicing the whole chain thing. This video was a huge help.
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you…
