Nothing That Impressive Technique-Wise

BRK » 16 October 2007 » In Movie, Raids, WWS »

High King Maulgar is a fight where the pull is everything. Get it right, don’t get burned to ashes by Krosh’s fire AoE, and it’s not that hard. Although getting 25 people to not make a silly mistake isn’t as easy as it sounds.

So there’s nothing tactically incredible we’re going to reveal here, but we think it’s pretty fun.Link to the 48MB full-sized movie is here, exported at 960×600.

    Brilliant video.

Inspirational, informative and funny in that special way that only BRK can pull off ;)

Keep it up please. We all love this stuff.

“Crit happy boomkin just grabbed aggro” my ass. Tank got deathcoiled/feared, and I was second on his threat list. :D

  3. BRK on October 16th, 2007 9:01 pm

Hunters don’t care about how/why a boomkin gets aggro, just that a druid got aggro.

“Crit Happy Boomkin” is in the lexicon.

Um… unless the raid-scheduling GM has a problem with that.

See? When the primary person with aggro is feared, the mob moves on to the secondary target.

Well, it looks like there won’t be any more BRK raiding-movies for the forseeable future.

Well… there’s one thing we could do. The GM-Instance has one known bug:

  13. Someone on October 16th, 2007 11:59 pm

    @Fiordhraoi: “/cast [target=TJ] Fear”

Uh? You got that backwards! Druids can’t fear, but Warlocks can! So you can’t fear TJ but TJ sure can fear you!

Which reminds me of something stupid: why can a lock fear my hunter’s mobs, but I can’t scare beast his mobs? That’s not fair, especially when the annoying lock is of the other faction and not even PvP flagged… :(

  14. Someone on October 17th, 2007 12:01 am

@BRK: I’m sure there’s a perfectly sound answer, but why can’t you stay in such a place where you can hit one boss and still be in range to throw MPs on Hobbes? Just curious as I’ve never been there nor think I will ever be! :)

Your videos rock. I especially like the high quality, you can see what’s going on. It also makes me wish I had a widescreen monitor.

  16. Mn3MoN1C on October 17th, 2007 12:52 am

I really love these videos. It’s good to see a good informative video that teaches us hunters what we should do in raids in order to succeed and prevent Huntard syndrome. (No pun to my blog intended)

  17. RedForty on October 17th, 2007 1:18 am

    @BRK

For that time that you pulled back Hobbes from the whirlwind, was there enough time to throw a feed pet on him to bring him back to 125%?

  18. Zball on October 17th, 2007 2:33 am

I even heard love for the mages from BRK. Go you.

@Someone, there are ways to pull it to keep the hunters in range for MP. One possibility is sending ranged DPS to the far left and pulling Blindeye over towards the ranged group. This requires shifting the pulls over slightly, but Maulgar and Krosh should still be tanked as you see there.

  19. smgeier on October 17th, 2007 4:00 am

@RedForty I don’t think you can use feed pet while you’re in combat. Sucks, but them’s the breaks.

  20. BRK on October 17th, 2007 5:48 am

Smgeier is correct. While a hunter can FD and get out of combat to eat/drink, that FD does not affect the combat-state of your pet. A Feign Death does not allow you to feed your pet.

nice vid! and i like your ui…could you possibly upload them as a package? would be really nice of you =]

  22. Anonymous on October 17th, 2007 6:47 am

    @BRK
First off great video and I love the quality, looks beautiful on my wide screen monitor. Now, the only way i know how to pull my pet out of battle is to press the passive button. And I was wondering if there was a faster way to do this since I don’t think you can key bind it. How can I do this faster without having to take the time to slide my mouse over the button and press it?

  23. BRK on October 17th, 2007 7:46 am

You can totally keybind your pet functions. On our Mac, CTRL-1 is Petattack, CTRL-2 is Petfollow, CTRL-3 is Petstay

You can also macro your pet functions.

    /petattack
    /petfollow
    /petstay

    are all valid macro commands.

  24. HELL on October 17th, 2007 8:34 am

A Feign Death does not allow you to feed your pet.

    Yes it does!

Pull back pet, FD, feed it…

As long as you feed em before you are forced back into combat it will still give happiness even when in combat again, you just can’t send in the pet until it’s complete or it will lose the feed buff and therefore not gain the happiness.

    BRK,

Thanks for the movie post. I managed to wriggle my way into a Gruul’s Lair run for tonight and that shows me a lot specifically from a hunter point of view. Very helpful, as always.

“Smgeier is correct. While a hunter can FD and get out of combat to eat/drink, that FD does not affect the combat-state of your pet. A Feign Death does not allow you to feed your pet.”

Not 100% true I’ve fed a owned lightening cannon many times after a rez mid fight. Key things:

    1) Have FD off of cooldown.
    2) Rez pet with your spiffy 4 second imp rez pet.
    3) Haz a macro for feeding petsie since it requires only 1 click
    3) Feign Death. Wait till you go OOC (your food and mounts will ungrey) and spams your feeder macro. It works for me just makesure when you FD you are on petpassive and dont send him right back in if he takes dmg feed pookie fades.

Are you guys melee tanking Kiggler? We always used two hunters/ele shams to range tank him to avoid his AoE knockback thingie. But whatever works I guess.

Also, it’s weird watching that pull and seeing stuff run to different tanking spots than I’m used to, makes everything look wrong, lol.

  28. HELL on October 17th, 2007 4:30 pm

Haven’t seen vid, but if it’s not the hunters then it’s easily done by a single moonkin (they don’t get sheeped) from range.

  29. RabidPoultry on October 17th, 2007 5:05 pm

Ahh Boomkin!!! And Tanking Mage FTW!

Thanks for the Video, seeing I have 30 levels before I see this it gives me time to burn it to memory, though I wonder what the following patches will do to that strategy?

    Macs FTW! QT FTW!!!

Boomkin tanking Ziggler! Wow! Our guild has never thought of that! Nice!

Great video, BRK. Between the wide angle of the camera and your nice UI setup, you get a great overview of the encounter. Thanks for posting it.

Love it. Love it. Love it. I’m in an “argument” with a MM guildie over which build is best. Two duels where I dismantled him and he still maintains MM is best. I referred him here “to see the light” but I think it’s gonna take me actually showing him in combat, not that I mind.
Too bad there will be a dearth of movies for awhile. Still the best hunter blog out there. The movies just helped visualize what the text was saying.

BRK, I stumbled upon your blog while researching hunter talents and felt the need to thank you for such a great site. I am making my way to 70 and have gleaned all I know from the tips and tricks you and the other knowledgeable hunters have posted here. Your videos are great and I appreciate them very much.
