A Very Quick Note

BRK » 17 October 2007 » In Movie »

As Apple is looking at us funny for the massive bandwidth we’ve been using. Now we’re putting the Moroes movie on WoW Insider where 3 million people attempting to download 100MB of BRK movies at the same time would seriously endanger our Apple-karma, we’re taking down all the full-sized movie downloads for a while.

We shall do more research and figure out what to do.

Edit: Here’s a Filefront.com link. Let’s see if it works.

Edit #2: It looks like it works. Comments?

Edit #3: The Problem:And the month is just barely half over. You people are content animals!

Edit #4: 48MB full-sized Moroes Movie from WoW Insider is here. Chain-trapping movie is here. We will make a consolidated list and put it on the sidebar, at some point.

    Hey BRK,

I don’t know if you’ve already considered it, but Filefront.com offers unlimited free storage of <1G files.

Go to archive.org, click into movies, and you can upload a video there.

Share your movie with history forever!

So in other words BRK is being too awesome for apple to handle?

  4. BRK on October 17th, 2007 8:03 pm

It’s not the storage we’re concerned with, it’s the bandwidth we use when so many people download our files. We need less constraints on our bandwidth.

    Thoughts?

Stage6? I figure you’ll have to transcode from .mov to divx, but the quality is nice. And you can either stream or download.

    Also Filefront is decent.

Wherever you need to store them, keep ‘em coming! I am LOVIN the BRK in action guides and have started using many of the same mods recently because you make it look that much cooler.

Watching the freeze trap in action in a difficult instance was awesome. The teamwork you guys use is amazing. PuGing blows and I know it, but I’m crazy jealous of the team work you guys use.

I throw down a freeze trap and some pre-teen ADHD kid hopped up Mt. Dew and Skittles freaks out and DPSes my mob.

Either way. BRK, you’re the greatest!

Stage6 would work too probably…but I referred filefront because I believe they also don’t have very constraining bandwidth limits? Can’t check from work :(

    teamwork > dps

    If you have both… SCORE!

Please post your vids on Stage6!
They are high-quality and I can get to it from work! ;-)

Interesting. Just measured the actual frame size that google/youtube plays at by default and it is 450×340.

Might want to try exporting at that frame size so that it’s not enlarging the video to fit it’s player and degrade the image.

You need a friend who works in teh Internet industry to provide you with free unlimited anonymous FTP service. The links you use in your blog would use the browser for d/l and look like:

    ftp://ftp.downloadme.com/petmybigredkitty.mov

file format would not matter, read-only access for the public.

If you don’t have a friend in said industry, cheapy ftp services exist.

I can’t recommend a cheapy service cuz i work in teh internet industry and don’t pay for such things. it looks like zftp, pandela, or drivehq at ~$5/mo provide a lot of b/w.

oh, one other thing, be careful with bandwidth overages. most of these companies eliminate 90th or 95th percentile peaks which is nice, but beyond your b/w commitment the price jumps.

they usually provide an admin gui with b/w stats. if not, you may want to setup mrtg to monitor b/w so you can disable ftp or hide the files b4 you go over your limit. that’s multi router traffic grapher.

wait a minute, don’t you have a fast upstream dsl connection at home? buy a cisco 871 with stateful inspection and ips (not ids!) and permit ftp to an older computer (you don’t want ppl suckin on your wow computer). 871w is wireless which is nice.

i didn’t get the latest full sized movie, so can you hurry? these services that compress the movie rob us of required detail.

yes, got it from ffront! when’s the next one?

It’s been a couple years since I dropped out of the ftp/fxp warez community, but I think ws_ftp from Ipswitch provides free client/server software for non-commercial users. It’s a little more complicated than point-and-click for the average user, but these guys are trading full dvd movies, apps, and O/S’s. Maybe it’s time to get a BigRedServer of your own…

So..57.7 Gig is a problem for them?

Hmm.. they have no love for the BRK?

Please stop posting movies, and get back to writing entertaining blogs. Seems like a cop-out and I’m hoping it’s just a phase you’re going through.

BRK, check out blip.tv, when you upload a movie there it creates a flash video for you to embed and also allows people to download the original file for full quality enjoyment.

Here’s an example video and you can see in the bottom right section there are different file formats to download. Look for this link:

    Download Microsoft Video (.avi)

@anon..wow, what a a$$hat. The time brk has spent with the vids im sure exceeds what it would take to right a post and visual reference to what he explains in everyday posts really brings his lessons home for a lot of us. Go troll the forums or better yet get a NAME…. Keep up the great work brk! I hope you resolve the b/w issue soon. :)

I hate filefront so much.. maybe it would be better using rapidshare.com, I’ve never seen anyone with problems trying to download something there but Filefront never works for me, maybe because im in brazil, I dunno really.

    Great Movies BTW!
    You are awesome mate!
