Boom! Tough Actin’ BRK
“Dear BRK … [I'm] trying to get my add-ons in order and eliminate some i am not using I need some help. I am already using some of the ones you use but have some questions about others and what would help alot would be a screenshot of BRK in action and some nice circles and arrows (ala John Madden) to point out which ones are which, what they do to help us hunters and maybe some setting information. As you know most of these add-ons come with either no or very little documentation and I being a document junkie need lots of info. Trapr”
Before we can comply with this request, we have to do a bunch of work to do on the Ol’ Addon Front. After a few days testing, we’ve acknowledged that Fubar is stable and has the extensions we need, so we’ve dumped Titan Panel and made the switch. We’ll be updating the BRK Addons List on our sidebar, as well as making a screenshot with notes describing which addons do what.
Trapr, addon documentation is a sore subject with us, too. You know what we’d love to see the developers do? Include either a PDF instruction booklet or a link to a site that shows an instruction page for their addon. Yes, we can do the slash command for an addon and it will generally give a list of what one can do and the format to do it. Dual/widescreen monitors FTW, we’d like to have an instruction booklet open on one side and the addon/WoW screen on another and be able to read and type at the same time.
Yes that’s a lot of work, yes most addon authors don’t get $$$ for their efforts. But if you include good documentation and a PayPal link, we’ll more than likely send you a dollar or two.

BRK, here’s your PDF right here, with universal handy dandy slash command menu. I suggest you screenshot this comment or forever keep it open on one of your monitors:

megan with the burnnnnnnnn
My addons are a nightmare. I have too many, but dang it I loves me some info on my screen.
One comment on my blog was how do I play with all my stuff on the screen. One thing that helps? 22″ Widescreen with high res helps…
I need to cut back on my addons. I truly do. Patch 2.3 I might erase everything but a few I know I NEED (auctioneer, advanced trade skill, Xbar and Fubar.) Fubar is the greatest thing in the world. Having all the info you used to have to click bags or your character menu for is awesome.
Of course with Bartender I need to find a way to move the quest log over a few inches because the system sees no buttons on the right hand side, so the quest log hugs the right side, overlapping my buttons.
I could get away with less if I would learn to use the mouse to move and use macro keys, but man I cannot get used to doing it.
I had Fubar and the CT stuff waaaaay back when. I currently use Titan/OneBag/Lootlink and some other minor things. I like the minimalist feel as my macbook is starting to feel its age. I am trying to talk the wife into letting me get a new one with tax refund…. Perhaps you could toss up a misdirect for me BRK?
Anyone know if an upgrade for ct_raid is ever coming out? With the last patch they added the chat tab now my raid tab is all screwed up and thats one addon i don’t want to loose…
As for as moving with the mouse I learned to do that playing DOOM a long time ago now i can’t move with the arrow keys at all…
Definatly one thing I am not looking forward to with the 2.3 release is the breaking of the addon’s
But about the documentation for the addon’s I will agree sparse is being generous about it. Some I know don’t need documentation they just do their job. Others that you need to configure I would love more info on.
I use FuBar with X-Perl and several others and FuBar is nice slim and easy. It allows plugins to be moved around and configured into it easily. X-Perl on the other hand took me forever to get set right. I am forever tweeking it to get just that right feel. But figuring it out to begin with was not that easy.
I am completely in aggreement about AddOns not having enough easily findable instructions. The truth of the matter is, some of the best AddOns have their instructions on a webpage instead of including an in-game option menu or a text file (which I hate trying to find in my AddOn folder).
I currently use FuBar, Perl, Bartender, CyCircled, and CT Raid as my core AddOns. You can find a list of my AddOns at my Guild Forum here:
http://www.nefarioussouls.com/forums/topics.aspx?ID=308
Granted, some of these have problems such as CTRaid and others have a few bugs here and there, but I find that without these mods, I would be lost. Now, I currently use Cartographer in place of MetaMap, but I am not sure whether I like Cart’ more. MetaMap seemed more fluid but it didn’t have as many options. Time will tell as I switch back and forth… I need to whittle my list down a bit but so far I do not experience any real system performance diminishment due to these AddOns… I’ll give system specs if you want but I have college assignments to tend to and have been distracted long enough in this break between course assignments…
Damn you BRK for having such a useful and interesting site that it distracts me from my responsibilities.
in response to the most recent poll (and not counting megan ^_^)
GURLS ON TEH INTERNETZ?
PIX OR IT DIDNT HAPPEN, SRY
haha, just poking fun, 15.4% answered that they are female. ORLY!? i find that astounding.
I know there are about 1.5 thousand addon compilations out there, and about a handful of sites dedicated to hosting the many addons available, but for those interested, take a look at mendax.wow, a compilation I put together that hits most of the “core” features people are looking for.
@ Wrynt -
What I find most amusing is that the number of “female toons played by males” and “female toons played by females” is about equal. Meaning half of the female toons here are actually guys, which amuses me for some reason =P
As for addons, I’ve just recently discovered FuBar and love it so far =D
Fubar FTW!
Recomended by a friend and now I’ve made the switch to Fubar based add-ons because I totally love those two thin bars with plenty of information on them!
(Which reminds me I could probably do a post on those… Hmmm, getting late now, so I’ll take a rain check!)
Fubar + Ace addons + Ace updater application FTW
Addons should be your own thing. Come up with your own unique interface, and you’ll often like it more.
Currently, I use xPerl, Bongos, FuBar, Omen, Skinner, Prat, and Kharthus’s Hunter Timers. (Which I’d recommend to ANY hunter.)

Snap it up. It counts autoshots, trinkets, Heroism, stings, procs *Such as Expose Weakness or Imp Aspect of the Hawk*, and a variety of other things, while being completely scalable, and movable.
One really great addon I like is Quartz, coupled with natur enemy cast bar.
This combo will keep track of all of your cooldowns, all of your target(s) cooldowns, and displays a handy bar that shows how much time you have between auto-shots.
Not just for casters, imo.
Well, I’m an idiot.
Quartz and omniCC, not natur enemy cast bar.
Don’t forget ‘AspectBar’ — a simple addon that’s so good it’s impossible for me to understand why this is not a default function.
It makes the hunter’s aspects turn up on its own little bar, hencer clearing ’shortcut slots’ to be used for other icons. Hurra!
//Róhi
I too once used Khartu’s, but now have switched to the more general purpose Chronometer, also updated from WAU, and I’m enjoying it very much: the simple fact of showing smaller bars with tiny icons next to the bars for what they’re tracking and showing them near the action, makes it MUCH easier to keep track of all those abilities…
“Anyone know if an upgrade for ct_raid is ever coming out?”
Just a suggestion - try the combination of sRaidFrames and oRA2. I left ctra for that setup, and haven’t looked back.
