Tempest Keep, It’s Very Pink

AC went to Tempest Keep with the goal of one-shotting Void Reaver. Silly, yes. Brash, totally. Accomplished?

H3ll no. :)

We really have no business being there but sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do. We learned, we practiced, we wiped. We almost Misdirected Al’ar on The Squeekie Priestie but she gave us a dirty look over the Internet and we demurred.

Lots of Internet problems for some folks hampered our continuity and it took three hours to clear all the trash to Void Reaver.

“I disconnected again.”

“My router died.”

“Wild, mangy hamsters wearing Steelers jerseys ate my LCD and renamed my WTF folder, hold on a sec.”

We got two chances on him before respawns and exhaustion canceled our raid. Those of use who had the Void Reaver Alarm addon fared very well, hopefully everybody in the guild will get it for the next attempt.

Void Reaver Lessons Learned

1. Remind people that they are having fun. It’s fun to try new stuff! Getting loot is a reward for hard work, not a guarantee just for showing up.

2. BM hunters really pump out the DPS. Numbers one, two, and four on the ole WWS report.

3. Everybody hates mages until you need them, at which point the universe comes to a standstill until some are found. Or one is found, as is the case with AC. (You hate mages, don’t you? Course you do.)

4. Elemental shaman need to calm the F-down with the crits and the aggro-pulling. Our E-S is pretty awesome, but we picture him sitting at his computer and seeing the crits coming… “Stop it.. Stop it! No more Crits! OMG STOP IT!” and they keep pouring out and he can’t stop them and the computer starts smoking and the keyboard gets hot to the touch… aggro is grabbed, trash robot runs over and hammers his @ss into the ground like a toddler’s plastic hammer being used on the play workbench. Golly it was funny, even the fifth time it happened.

5. It is not easy to lead a raid, read WoWWiki, call out targets, and hold your desire to go to the bathroom. We think the RL might have had an accident, but we totally forgive him and call “no-teasing” on any incidents he may have had.

    lol

Yeah I’ve had enough issues with 5 man instances but a 25 man or the older 40 man I’m still not sure how that can get coordinated well.

I’ve never hated mages and I find myself contemplating making one but then again I do that for most classes. I’ll just stick with one alt at a time which is currently a blueberry shammy. Though I plan on going the direction of resto with him so I should have to worry about pulling aggro because of a series of crits. I’m more surprised that didn’t happen to one of the boomkins as I’ve always heard they become guilty of it.

The keys to beating void reaver by Shifttusk:

    1) Do the trash over and over again untill you become trash professionals clearing it as fast as possible. Less wipes and time on the trash (which is huge) means more time getting balls in your face at the boss. :P

    2) Deadly boss mods, everyone, no exceptions. The speach bubble for balls is priceless and will cut your raid dmg in half.

    3) Geif pet mad arcane resistance and profit!

    4) You have 10 minutes be careful with agro. Start off late if you can kill gruul you have enough dps to giv ethe tanks a good lead on threat.

    5) Be a pvper. Mouse movement saves you seconds and makes avoiding the orbs easy.

    6) Watch I robot untill so angry at robots you literaly 1shot VR… Seriously a hunter can 1 shot him.

    7) Enjoy the taste of floor.

ok, i said the speech bubble thing over vent last night, but no one responded. Here’s my chance! HA! I WAS RIGHT! NEENER! IT WORKED! HAHA! HA!

oh, and BRK… that thing about mages? Yeah, watch your back buddy :P

It took us 2-3 raids until we got trash down to a respectable time. What’s good is that if you’ve got a good raid balance, you’ve got a ton of CC to overlap as well—Banish, Fear, Hibernate, Sheep, Trap.

    Keep cracking at VR!

  5. Barkle on November 2nd, 2007 3:42 pm

My guild is around the same area as AC progression wise. We have Gruul down for several consecutive weeks without too much problem, so we are trying some 25 man stuff. For us, it is The Lurker Below. Can anyone fish? The trash is SSN is serious fun. First week, we wiped like 4 times on one pull. This week, we cruised thru trash with only a handful of deaths. Lurker is still handing us our butts in a take out bag, but it was better. Its a little frustrating after wiping the floor with Kara and Gruul for a few weeks to get reminded of exactly how small we really are. Sigh, need more flasks …

  6. Alex - aka Firelight on November 2nd, 2007 4:23 pm

I want to see VR! Our guild is “Commited to SSC” at the moment, and wants to clear the place before we move to Tempest Keep. Boo!!! We’ve got Maggy, Gruul, hydross and lurker on farm now though. So its not all bad.

Mages are not so bad, its Locks…

Give Doom Lord Kazzak a try. Talk about fun. Just don’t do it flagged. We had a couple folks pvp flagged so we all just flagged for expedients sake. We start the fight and a horde druid cyclones our main tank, we of course all died. I laughed and laughed, not on vent of course. Kudos to that druid whoever you were. The death was painful, but I have to respect the genius.

  9. RabidPoultry on November 2nd, 2007 4:49 pm

Gratz! We want video next time or you are fired and your Hunter card on suspension BRK.

You might think that it isn’t useful as a number of folks have a view from the carpet, but even mistakes are valuable to us Outland nubs.

As for Mages, I too used to think various bad things about them, my first trip last night to ZF (need that carrot). Group was Druid Tank(awesome job BTW), Pally for healz (another awesome job), Rogue (pissed me off more times than I can count, ran off sapping mobs that weren’t iconed to be attacked etc etc etc), Myself and a Mage (AWESOME JOB as well). The Mage and I AOE’d the bejesus out of the event on the stairs, I was in total amazement. The Bear ran about charging, and swiping like a Rabid Smokey the Bear, Pally bubbled, healed like a champ, and I tried to watch the rogue almost die on every pull because he was dumb. But the Druid was great ran around gathering the trash like he was born to do it.

All that in a PUG group too, I used LFG for the first time and was so thinking, welp here comes a repair bill. Gives me hope.

    <3 Mages and Druids

As Shift stated get DBM or BigWigs, I cant believe your guild raids without them. It will make all fights much easier, esp the 25 mans.

Void Reaver Alarm is now my favorite mod ever. Our guild can one-shot HKM and Gruul, but we couldn’t seem to get VR below 2%, because people kept dying despite having Deadly Boss Mod /say bubbles going. We all installed VRA (ALL ranged dps need to install it), and we one-shot him without a single ranged dps death.

If you can get everyone to install and understand VRA, and if you’ve got the dps, I’m positive you’ll down him on your next attempt. Just make sure you’re MDing the tanks after the aggro drops.

Also, if you’re lucky, you’ll get the Void Reaver Greaves on his first downing like I did.

    @BRK
after u grind the mages about the no deadzone in 2.3(hehe)…. then give them & locks lots of luv, sheeps and banish are ur friends on trash …u’ll need them both for solarian aoe … which btw, is a fun fight. and at least for al’ar hunters are needed for MD rotation after meteor.

DBM or bigwigs work great for the alarms … either way.

and i don’t care what vid u watch, don’t let ur guys straff when they are targeted. tell them to wait a sec and run straight back.

key to VR, stay alive …. lol. tru story.

    @hrrathul
try doomlord on a pvp server … we are outnumbered by ally 3 to 1 ….they come in number to grief our attempts …. but we get him anyway …just another part of the strat to have an ally control group lol.

    @Alex – aka Firelight
    bad move imo.
i say that cause we did the same thing and missed months of easy loot that could have helped in guild progression. now we spend one night blowing through the 3 farmed TK bosses. and one night blowing through all of SSC but Vashj. next we down vashj and then attempts on Keal the rest of our raid nights is where we are at right now.
the gear we got from the 3 tk bosses really helped on Vashj.

Everyone hates mages? Everyone hates mages?

AFK while I inform the union that we’re cutting you off on croissants.

  15. Fiordhraoi on November 2nd, 2007 9:04 pm

    @ Kris O –

We actually do use Deadly Bossmods.

My problem with the “Say” bubbles is the fact that I can’t use them. I switched to a dual-monitor setup a while back (stretched across both screens, CTViewport to make one screen my “play” area and the other one my “bags/addons/maps/whatever” area). While this worked great for the most part, for some reason it had the side effect of making any /say or /yell bubbles HUGE. As in, four words would fill up my entire screen. :(

    VoidreaverAlarm rules though.

I’m stumped. For the first time I cannot make the connection between the post, the title, and the little picture in the corner.

t5 set bonus really shines on vr.

  18. Anonymous on November 3rd, 2007 1:08 am

If BRK gets the VR Greaves before my friend *who can actually play her hunter*, I’m gonna cry.

BRK having a Legacy before me even makes me cry. *I’ll be getting a Halberd of Desolation in two progression kills, though, so, meh.*

Try it against a boss who wipes aggro every 30 seconds.

Oh, and sometimes, the crits come like 5-10 seconds after the shaman has stopped casting ANYTHING.

Thats what our Elemental Shammie deals with on Leo. He dies alot. Quite funny really.

  20. Anonymous on November 3rd, 2007 4:55 am

Our Elemental shamen have no problems on Leo. Maybe it’s just them.

  21. Doogie on November 3rd, 2007 12:59 pm

Wow, what’s with the anonymous peckerhead three posts up? BRK misdirect a Pit Lord onto you or something?

I’m a bit jealous of you, because my guild’s been held back by lack of personnel (we can farm the crap out of Kara, but we’ve only attempted Maulgar once, because we don’t have enough raiders available from week to week — we’re recruiting like mofos but we can only do so much until then). But definitely, congrats. =)

Heh, missed this post when it was first posted.

The nice thing to know after your first VR pulls is that the VR trash far harder than the actual boss. It’s the hardest trash in SSC/TK. Getting to the VR pull is the accomplisment. That being said…

    - Deadly Boss Mods or Big Wigs is a requirement for all 25 man raids. Everyone install it now.

    - Have your ranged DPS group up in pairs around the left side of VR. The ranged shouldn’t take any damage at all the entire fight or they’re doing something wrong. Have the paired up ranged stand far enough part that if one pair gets a ball on them none of the other packs have to move. When one of the ranged in a pair gets targeted have both of them run directly away from VR, not left or right. Then they can run back to where they were standing. This hurts dps, but it makes for a simpler fight and the enrage timer is very kind.

    - Have your healers group up on the right side. We use two groups, one for the tanks, one for the melee damage. When one in the group gets targeted the whole group moves left or right. Generally back and forth but sometimes you have to move right twice or whatever. You want to give the casters as much room as possible to move around the circle so that they don’t get close to the ranged and that they don’t nuke themselves.

    - Melee have to stand in the center and take the poundings. If they try to move out they’ll get targeted by the balls and that’s all she wrote.

    - Three tanks are required. Don’t try it with two.

    - Use aggro wipes at 75%. They’ll be back up again by 25% for the final push.

    - We have two people on vent talking. One to call out all the arcane balls (it helps, even with DBM), and one to coordinate all healer movement.

Enjoy your T5 from the loot pinata and go find a really big pot for the Lurker fish fry to follow. :-)

    @ doogie

that “anonymous” is nothing to worry about. anyone can post anonymously and trash talk, it doesnt mean a thing. if he left a name, a link to his armory page, and some justification for the ridiculous claims, we could have a discussion. However, he/she did not, so just let it slide.

altough i agree on the peckerhead call ^_^
