I"m a CONDUIT!

BRK » 20 November 2007 » In Movie, Mrsbrk »

Mrs BRK hates William Shatner. Obviously, today was a sad day in the life of Mrs BRK.

“WTF did I ever do to deserve this?! I can’t escape that communist, tree-climbing, bed-wetting, has-been-that-never-was with a tiny-misshapen-pen1s hack!! As Charlie Brown would say, AUGH!!!!”

    Hahaha….those are INCREDIBLE! “I’m Mr. T and I’m a Night Elf Mohawk!”

  2. Thunderhide on November 20th, 2007 10:47 pm

I agree w/ Stig. Those were fantastic.

  3. Dustin on November 20th, 2007 10:50 pm

    “Communist, tree-climbing.”

What is that about? Does Mrs. BRK happen to know anything about William Shatner at all?

  4. Alan on November 20th, 2007 10:53 pm

So I guess she isn’t watching Boston Legal while you’re raiding.

  5. Fiordhraoi on November 20th, 2007 10:54 pm

    OH EM GEE.

I beat BRK to a post.

Like, by a full 8 minutes.

    THE WORLD IS ENDING.

  6. Zak on November 20th, 2007 11:32 pm

Have either of the come out and said what server their toons are on like Curt Schilling?

  7. Kel on November 21st, 2007 12:34 am

where’s the option for “none of the above” in your newest poll, plz!

  8. Chris on November 21st, 2007 2:17 am

Mrs. BRK is a woman of discerning taste. I hates him too. I would have liked to watch Boston Legal, but won’t since he’s on it. I usually call him that horrible man who cannot act.

  9. Dez on November 21st, 2007 6:44 am

The guy got old. It happens to us all.

But, some of us were there when the only decent scifi on the tube was Star Trek and The Twilight Zone, and Shatner was THE MAN on both. Oh, sometimes The Outer Limits had a cool episode, but most of them were boring. And don’t get me started on Lost in Space or Voyage to the Bottom of the Ratings. Bad TV is just bad TV.

An actor has to work, so we can forgive TJ Hooker, Tekwar and Boston Legal. The commercials are embarrassing, but I admire the fact that he can still work at his age.

So, now he’s doing a spot for WoW. Cool.

To me, he represents us, the WoW players over 50. We usually keep a low profile. Less obvious than the screaming teenagers who love the fact that they can swear and be naughty with utter anonymity (I could not play this game if it did not have “ignore”). There are more of us than you might think.

Mr. T is not a young man either, though he doesn’t show it as much as Bill.

Based on that, in order to stick with the “older player” theme, the female of choice would be Diana Rigg as a blood elf rogue.

I’ll bet she still fits the skintight black leather catsuit.

    Ouch.

Obviously, being from Portugal probably explains why I didn’t catch anything of what Mrs. BRK supposedly said! :)

And what’s with that dumb poll? How can you do such a poll and NOT include Angelina Jolie? :)

  12. Dustin on November 21st, 2007 9:28 am

@ Chris. It’s a good idea to avoid shows because of one specific actor. That way you won’t have to ever be proven wrong that this person might be an enjoyable actor to watch.

Shatner is something that I hope to be one day. 76 and full of life.

Which is saying something about a man who came home one day and found his wife dead in a pond behind his house from alcohol and drugs (Supposedly she drowned while intoxicated). My dad came home to his wife murdered in their bed strangled to death and he has lost his life everyday since. I hope to be somewhat like Shatner one day, to me, he’s pretty damn cool because he seems to live by a good code of keep living.

  13. Trazora on November 21st, 2007 11:59 am

William Shatner is a god in the world of paintball.

    Leave him alone, he’s great!

  14. Fiordhraoi on November 21st, 2007 1:45 pm

@ The Anon above me -

Your attempts at trolling are rather sad. If you want to rile people up, be less obvious about it. As it stands, you need some practice. I’d also recommend a basic 8th grade English class to learn grammar, unless you really ARE requesting that we throw up into your mouth each time a Mrs. BRK picture is posted. If that’s your thing, hey, go for it, but I’m not helping.

Suffice to say, you fail. Go home and learn some communication skills, then you can sit at the table with the rest of the adults.

James Tiberius Kirk…there is none higher. That’s all I got to say about that.

BRK, come on, obviously Oprah Windfrey plays an enhancement shaman.

    @fiord

    Come on…

It’s all for the funz yo.

It is teh internet afterall - people can post what they want.

    Passed 8th grade - check…

In RL I model (code) radar emitters/sensors and their beam patterns to be used in range detection eqn’s for military simulations. Proper grammar not required.. heh..

    @ Anon -

Comments like that are not “in fun.” Nor does having the anonymity of the internet somehow excuse or justify boorish behavior. You, quite obviously, are simply a jackass looking for a rise from BRK. And the tired old “I have an important and/or technical sounding job in real life” line is completely irrelevant, if it is even true.

You entered this arena, using an anonymous comment as a shield because you lack the balls to take even the trivial amount of accountability that comes with attaching a pseudonym to a comment. Frankly, I don’t care if you’re one of the Joint Chiefs, your actions here reveal you as a small-minded, egotistical prick who takes pleasure in the belittling of others in a cruel way.

It’s been said that the measure of character is how you behave when no one is watching. Similarly, how you behave on the internet, where there is not even the accountability of being tied to your actions, reveals much about you. So take a long look in the mirror, and decide if the way you’re acting is truly the person you want to be.

That is, if looking at yourself in the mirror doesn’t make you throw up a little in your mouth every time you do it.

  21. Calandris on November 21st, 2007 4:10 pm

Okay Mr. T rocks and so did his commercial. Shatner rocks but his commercial wasn’t as good.

Paris Hilton is a murlock….but that wasnt an option.

I believe I’m putting too much though into this now.

  23. Lynda on November 21st, 2007 4:37 pm

I saw those commericals, and caught myself wondering if they really played WoW, or if they were just acting like they played WoW.

Fio makes a good point about behavior.

I for one think Shatner is awesome. Not surprised that BRK’s better half doesn’t like him. I think it’s a girl thing. Like or dislike, there is no reason for the anonymous guy to spout the garbage that he did. It’s pointless and by no means relevant to anything. Not to mention it shows a severe lack of decorum. Kind of like a “mommy’s out of the house so I am going to use bad language on the internet” persona.

Back to the topic, I liked the Shatner video alot, but then again I am a big fan of Taurens. That conduit line was GREAT…..

  26. Bill on November 21st, 2007 6:33 pm

ZOMG! I love Shatner and Mr. T. These commercials are priceless. I want to see a Patrick Stewart commercial where he is rolling a Draeni Shaman and we can all debate who is the better shaman. The macho in your face shaman vs. the suave thinking man’s shaman.

  27. Hyouzan on November 21st, 2007 6:34 pm

I think Mrs BRK and Wil Weaton have a similar hate for William F’ing Shatner. He is very opposed to the idea that the prick has inspired generations of geeks.

I use to be linked to Wil Weaton’s blog but not anymore.

BTW Weasley Crucher was the worst character ever in any ST series.

  28. Anonymous on November 21st, 2007 6:51 pm

I’m with you, Lynda and Zak. I thought the commercials were funny. The whole point of advertising is to grab someone’s attention. That it grabbed Mrs. BRK’s in a negative fashion is beside the point. She noticed the commercial.

But do they play? I’m not sure, if I was Mr. T, I’d want people to know I’m (just making this up now) Smashkitty on Thunderhorn server. If the guy is trying to grind motes for primals on the Elemental Plateau, he’d be inundated with duel challenges just to be able to say “I beat Mr. T in a duel today.”

Still, they could say, yes I do play and I’m on the Ogrimmar server. That is, however, not necessary for advertising purposes. The whole point is to publicize whatever it is you are hawking. But Blizzard better come up with a quest which turns your night elf hair into a mowhawk. I finally turned off Trade and General chats last night.

As for the bad language, we were having that very discussion in the guild last night. We had exactly two teenage boys in our guild where the median age is 35. (I’m considerably older than that. If Shatner does play, huzzah for the age spread!) These two love to come on and challenge us in guild chat. After enduring a two hour chat fest where every other word was m-f or a-h, as guild officer I had to say something. Privately. Never reprimand a guild member publicly unless they are to be booted and what they did was reprehensible. I was told that since he pays for his account, he can, pretty much do what he wants to with the game, it’s his money. [boot]

And when he got over the shock that someone would actually boot him, I said that it might be his money, but we are a group with rules and if he doesn’t like the rules, there are plenty of other guilds who don’t care what he says.

Hence we were discussing that in guild chat last night. How much does the fact that it’s your money govern your decorum or lack thereof? We came to the conclusion that our guild represents a club and, to join the club, you adhere to a set of rules and behavior. I missed the above referenced comment (probably a good thing}, but posting here is like being in a club. You adhere to BRK’s rules and, if he doesn’t like what you say or your behavior, he can kick you and prevent your posting again.

There’s no way we can or should be forcing our code of behavior on others. We have to know, going into a guild or posting on a site, what is and is not proper and one should abide by the rules of that guild or blog. Don’t come back and cry foul when you were warned.

Diana Rigg? Yeah that would be good, but I’m thinking Dame Judi Dench as a Human Holy Priestess.

    Gimmlette

Obviously, we nuked the rude anon comment. Nothing else really needs to be said.

  30. Ailtia - Kargath on November 21st, 2007 7:29 pm

All I have to say is Alliance has Mr T and Horde has Shatner. Alliance ROCKS! now hands down.

  31. Hyouzan on November 21st, 2007 7:34 pm

    @ailtia

Yeah, but Mr T had to hack the game. It just goes to show alliace is shadier then the horde. lol

  32. Bachus on November 21st, 2007 9:03 pm

    “Mrs BRK hates William Shatner.”

    Divorce her.

  33. Vaerlin on November 21st, 2007 10:01 pm

William Shatner has hardly done anything to me to garner anything but enjoyment. He’s old and no longer the actor he once was… which is really saying something, but not watching an entertaining show (Boston Legal) where he is actually cast well is kinda silly.

He was James T. Kirk… you can’t undo that. And Kirk was literally THE man of scifi.

Alec Baldwin… perhaps the most overrated actor of our times (yes, he sucks, and plays the same role over and over and over and over) has been in plenty of good films where he plays: Alec Baldwin. The same is true of nearly every Hollywood actor.

Even arguably *great* actors like Ian McKellen are famous for their typecasts: Magneto=Gandalf…

Oh, BTW: Ian McKellen as a Gnome Mage!

  34. Shutter on November 21st, 2007 10:15 pm

    @Vaerlin

Gotta disagree with you. If you’re telling me that Baldwin is playing the same character in, say, Hunt for Red October and 30 Rock I can only think we’re not watching the same movies/tv shows. (Not gonna say he’s the greatest actor ever, though I will say he’s one of the few people I can think of that might manage to be as mind-bendingly cool as Shatner is, in the same way that Shatner is cool)

Also, re: Ian McKellen, I can only think that you haven’t seen enough of his work. Two franchises does not a career make.

As for suggestions, Bruce Willis as a Orc Warrior. (Which is doubly wierd as my guild’s MT used to be named Brucewillis until we server transfered and he became Brucelee)

  35. Vaerlin on November 22nd, 2007 12:58 am

I have to admit, I haven’t seen nearly as much of that particular Baldwin’s work to make a fair judgment.

And I never meant to imply that Ian McKellen doesn’t have a breadth of work behind him, more that he’s type-casted for Hollywood productions. Audiences seem to prefer their actors act the same part over and over… to an extent that acting skill is hardly desirable in modern Hollywood.

Anthony Hopkins is another actor who has impressed me.

What do you think? Anthony Hopkins as a human warlock?

  36. Dustin on November 22nd, 2007 1:10 am

    @Fiordhraoi

    “justify boorish behavior”

NO! NO NO NO NO NO! Bad Fiord! That’s a Naughty Fiord. Give me back that thesaurus, absolutely no more wordplay for you my friend!

  37. Someone on November 24th, 2007 2:08 pm

@Mrs. BRK: 36 comments (and one deleted!) later and I still don’t get it what’s with Mrs. BRK and William Shatner! :)

  38. Someone on November 24th, 2007 2:10 pm

BTW: I missed that “anon-rude” comment, but in my book, calling someone “communits, tree-climbing, bed-wetting, has-been-that-never-was with a tiny-misshapen-pen1s hack” is NOT what I’d call a POLITE comment as well, so maybe that rude-anon had some point in his/her rudeness…

  39. Mrs BRK on January 4th, 2008 12:26 am

Was my comment rude? Certainly I wouldn’t express my displeasure in those terms to Mr. Shatner’s face. I would be somewhat more diplomatic. In my defense, the comment was made to BRK in a private email.

And…I am aghast but the guy is starting to grow on me. Just a bit.
