Can a Preamble Not Be a Preamble?
New Patch Notes, brothers and sisters! The latest from the PTR is Patch 2.3.2! No preamble, let’s just dig in!
Um. Wait, we just did a preamble. Saying there’s no preamble is a preamble.
Uh Oh. Saying there’s no preamble then realizing there really is a preamble is two preambles…
Ah heck. Here’s what we care about:
Arcane Shot: Ranks 1-5 will once again deal bonus damage based on attack power. Well we’re glad they’re fixing this “Oops”. Thank you fellas.
Aspect of the Viper effect increased. So it wasn’t just us who thought it was more than a little underpowered. We need AotH up for our IAofH to proc, but sometimes we’ll kick in AotV to speed up mana-regeneration. Dang if it didn’t seem like it was unimpressing us. Another check in the Woot-Column.
Freezing Trap is no longer limited to one target at a time. Well this smells like double-trapping has been re-bugged, un-nerfed, or whatever you want to call it. We’re surprised but thrilled; we’ll be able to do our BRK Double-Trapping Movie soon, we hope.
Pet leveling speed has been increased. Oh happy day! Now give us a bloody reason to want to level more pets, like more pet slots in the f-ing stable.
The Netherscale Ammo Pouch [and the Knothide Quiver are] no longer … Unique item[s]. Whoa whoa whoa, hasenpfeffer! The 24-slot ammo bag is no longer unique, and the 20-slot quiver is no longer unique, but the 24-slot quiver IS still unique? That doesn’t make sense.
No, you don’t understand. The 24-slot quiver was never Unique but the 24-slot ammo pouch was. Blizz is making all four of the new recipes - 20-slot ammo pouch, 20-slot quiver, 24-slot ammo pouch, and 24-slot quiver - non-Unique. If you are a non-LW gun-hunter and desire a 24-slot ammo pouch, you should be able to get one without paying epic-mount-quantity gold soon.

I always understood the unique thing to mean that a leatherworker could not have more than one in their inventory(personal, bank) at a time. What this means to me is that they can now go on a crafting spree, and make say.. 6 at a time, and THEN mail them, list them, whatever. NOT make one, mail it off. Make another, mail it off. etc..
The main problem, Taelon, was that Leatherworking Hunters would either have to wait before making one for themselves or after they did, they would no longer be able to make another to sell!
Of course, they could probably have extended the concept of Unique-Equipped into the bag realms and then they would not have that problem!
Still, if this is not a very subtle mock-up “à lá BRK style”, then these are good changes indeed! I can almost feel some joy picking up my lower level hunter and go do some more double-trapping!
These are all Very Good Things…
…except maybe the double-trapping. I agree with your earlier position, BRK, that multi-trapping should be part of the SV tree (deep into it). Otherwise, I think we’ll see another reversal now that we all will be able to do it. I can hear the “OP!” cries all the way from Alterac Valley to Shattrath.
We have all be able to do it…
This change will merely allow us to do it again. Survivalists still won’t be able to do their patented Triple-Trapping. However, no Hunter has ever been able to have two traps down at one time with noone trapped.
The notes don’t actually say the change has been reversed, so in theory you could argue that there is now the possibility of having TWO traps down at the same time, rather than having two trapped enemies. That would be odd, and interesting indeed.
These are wonderful patch notes, especially the reroll of the trap mechanics sounds like music to my ears.
Effective double trapping was always restricted to the survival tree so no changes there.
For non-survivalists this (provided it’s reverted to the old mechanics) will mainly mean that chain trapping is once again a safe form of crowd control, even around fear happy locks.
I hope double-trapping works as before! Sure, I could get one resisted, but on the majority of times I did it, while being BM, it worked pretty good.
As for the AotV, I hope this is not true: “improved” from 50% INT to 55%??? LOL! That much improvement is plain mocking up on hunters around!
My local LW/Hunter had to sell her ammo pouch to a vendor, then make one for me and trade it to me, and then buy hers back from the vendor.
It took a lot of convincing before she’d try that risky maneuver!
Would someone explain how double trapping worked? I never did it or tried it since I though you could only have one active trap at a time.
@Mudge:
Double Trapping functions like this (only the basic):
1. Lay down Trap
2. Wait until CD on traps is up again (30 secs left on the trap you have layed down)
3. Pull a mob into it.
4. (since you CD on traps is up) lay down a new trap.
5. Pull a Second Mob into this trap.
- There you go to mobs frozen at the same time. With much practice in this technique and if you are experienced in chain trapping aka uninterrupted and seamless CCing via your trap - than you can even manage to Chain-Dual-Trapping but of course SV-specc and the 2 pieces Setbonus of your D3-Set will make this much easier.

Hooray for trap un-nerf! Trapping is NOT the same as every other CC and this little addition is welcomed back with open arms. I am just hglad that the first trap won’t bust if the second trap is triggered. The double trapping for non-SV hunters is irrelevant as chain trapping 2 at a time would require uninterupted attention to the CC, extreme precision in timing, and LOTS of room to add distance between said traps.
Anon re: LW Bags,
I was doing the same thing as well. I vendored my bag, made a second and mailed it off, maybe made another and mailed it to an alt of mine to sell on the AH (tehe) and then bought mine back from the vendor. I almost had a heart attack after I had logged off the toon, and back on not seeing the quiver in the tool bar! Dummy me forgot to drag it out of another bag!
Keep up the good work, BRK!

(Coffee named hunter, who topped the Damage Meter a few nights ago in Kara FOR THE FIRST TIME under the uber tutelage of BRK! However me fears others weren’t pulling their weight… the other hunter, MM specced, ranked 7th… hrmm)
