    (you feeling better though?)

I was runin’ around wetlands with my alt the other day and saw melee hunter for the first time, I mean – THE melee hunter, didn’t see him using ranged attack at all, 2h sword FTW, so I sneaked up to him – inspect, +str +sta +spirit gear… btw he was lv34 or 35

It gets really scary when you see the level 70 hunters in Outlands, with fiery on their weapons, running around melee’ing everything. And the super confusing part is… they’re usually Marks spec’d. Marks and not using your ranged weapon? *headwall*

One of these types asked me for help once to kill an elite. I figured I could be an example, so I grouped with them and went all-out-Beastial-Wrath-MQoSRDPS, while they sort of sat and watched, hitting it a few times with their sword and plunking a few arrows at it. Mob dies in a few seconds and the DPS meter says I did about 85% of the group’s total damage. I can only hope the person I was grouping with got the hint…

OMG, I just saw this happening today in ghostlands. I laughed at the huntard then told them to goto BRK and get a clue. It was kinda harsh but the hunter was running around with a level 18 warlock and he was doing the same thing.

This is actually Blizzard’s fault: you start a new char, get this nice intro video and then… uh? There’s not a SINGLE tutorial for such a complex game. And you know why? Because players pay monthly fees so the longer they take to learn the game the more cash flows in to Blizzard…

Now, let’s go back to the Warcraft or Starcraft series: remember how the first few levels of each class would be laid out in a tutorial fashion? Teaching you the basics? I don’t remember if Diablo had something like that (it’s been a LOOOONG time since!), but I wouldn’t be surprised to find it did…

Why does, for instance, GuildWars have tutorials? Because you don’t pay monthly fees!

Sure, people who like to master what they do, even if it’s playing a game, will fire up firefox and google around and learn, but there are those who simply won’t bother!

Heck, I had played for quite a while until I found thottbot! And now, I’m on the exact opposite side with Lightheaded add-on, aka: wowhead in a box, so now I won’t even alt-tab out of wow to get my quests done! :)

You will occasionally see any of my hunters standing in and swinging away while I am getting my weapon skills up to par.
I need the wing clips to land when in an emergency or in PVP and I need range.
Once I’ve got the skill up to level I get the heck out of dodge and kill-em from range like any good hunter should.

I will sometimes sit around and melee something to death because it makes me smile that my polearm skill is 350 and I get white-damage crits to rival those I can put out with my bow. (Granted, I do these every three seconds, as opposed to the frenzied arrow-depletion crackfest that is my shooting. 0.7s between auto shots with Rapid Fire + Abacus of Violent Whazahoozits + Heroism ticking. It makes me squirm with glee.)

…that, or I just can’t get to range without falling off of something.

…and it messes with the Markshunters in PvP around Halaa. What? I can’t scattershot it when it’s big and red and in my face killing me with wing clip? Hax!

    I’ve had a few fun run-ins lately.

I had a Hunter inspect me and whisper “YOU NEED NEW GEAR”. Not only was he 20 levels under me, he was from one of the big raiding guilds on the server. I’m sure it’s easy to get new gear when you’re part of a well funded guild.

Another one was in Org – I was inspecting some random hunter because I like to look at people’s builds. He was in his mid 40’s and had spend TWO of his talent points. 0.o

But I was nice enough not to whisper him and say “SPEND YOUR TALENT POINTS” :)

I also keep seeing warlocks and hunters killing mobs solo – no minion or pet out. I don’t get that at all.

It’s all well and good. Wait until BRK’s lowibe gets to outland with 0 defense or weapon skills. :)

I love your site!! Unfortunately I had not heard about it until my Hunter was lvl 70. *never did any research before then* Now it does not take a genius to figure out that you die less by sending your pet to do the tanking, but recently our main tank’s girlfriend decided she wanted to play and started a hunter…… Oh the horror stories. He knew she was playing her hunter all wrong and could not convince her to a. use pet as tank and b. KITE!!! Yes she would run away as the mob approached but would not shoot while running away and dieing.

I SENT HIM TO BRK and he sent her to BRK.

The videos have helped her tremendously! Thank you BRK for keeping it informative AND fun.

Just watched all the movies. Amusing and informative (after 3 years of WoW, I’ve never had a lvl 11 hunter).

I would like to comment, though, that only recently have I actually SEEN a melee hunter. Maybe it’s because I haven’t leveled anyone in a year (last time was a Draenei and most of the people leveling were rerollers).

But this Hunter was smacking things… 2h… no pet…

  12. Demon on January 10th, 2008 10:26 am

Hehe, he doesn’t even send the pet in purposefully… it goes it because they are set to defensive by default! … dies a little inside because of the horror.
