At Least We Have the Mats

DOOMWALKER DOWN, FOSHIZZLE!!

doomwalker.png

He dropped our gun, sarsaparilla!

newgun.png

And no, there is no scope on it. Not a one.

Why? ‘Cause our guild engineer beat feet and scrammed after the loot was distributed! We got the mats, have them in our bags, and will gang-tackle and hog-tie that engineer the next time we see him.

Moar crit-scope!

    OMG!!!
    /drool

Now you can call yourself a complete BM Hunter! I bow before you and your mighty Barrel-Blade, may it serve you well.

That gun is so tasty… I can just not get my eyes off it.

Gief movie with it PLX! I want to see it in action.

Oh, btw, gratz on winning that roll. I see at least one other hunter in there, must have been one dissapointed gunner (or perhaps Surv with that WS?).

[EDIT] Hey I don’t see you or Hobbes? Taking the shot?

  2. Hyouzan on January 14th, 2008 11:11 pm

CONGO RATZ… Ok, now make a video so my guild can do it.. lol j/k

Kudos to AC and your uber killingness.!!!

  3. Woggy on January 14th, 2008 11:14 pm

Grats, BRK. Every hunter in my guild has been drooling over that since we downed Doomwalker the first time (he didn’t drop it – they’re hoping for a repeat encounter sometime.)

It occurs to me that I didn’t mention which server I’m normally on when we were talking – character name is Woggy on the Perenolde US server.

And that is one sweet gun.

  4. BRK on January 14th, 2008 11:21 pm

Actually we brought our wind serpent for Gruul’s testing purposes, and he just stuck around for the Doomwalker downing. We’re there, we promise, (and yes we took this shot ourselves).

We didn’t win the roll, we bid enough DKP so the other two hunters – who both have Prince’s bow – decided not to bid against us. Elune bless them both!

  5. shake on January 14th, 2008 11:33 pm

congrads! this is a nice gun

i just farmed the honor and got the season1 crossbow.

  6. Felandra on January 14th, 2008 11:37 pm

So your DKP bank is now empty? Or did you do it the tough way, and ruthlessly calculate how much it would take to clear them out, without clearing yourself out?

Ahhh… Still got saliva in my mouth. If I ever got to see it in the game I would be going nuts. I went nuts the day I bought Don Santos, this would be huge in comparison.

So how does it feel to know that there is no unhasted weapon better than this one? Kinda depressing on top of all that joy.

  7. DarkndAngel on January 15th, 2008 12:19 am

The sockets are nice as well as the dps boost… but isn’t it a little fast for a BM hunter weapon? I thought 2.7 was perfect and any lower was to fast?

  8. Sym on January 15th, 2008 1:50 am

    grats BRK. thats freekin awesome..

  9. Freejack on January 15th, 2008 1:58 am

Does it shoot arrows? I love my bows.

  10. Velenorx on January 15th, 2008 2:19 am

    Gz BRK

And we just know how you feel.

Also got our update today: Serpent Spine Longbow is ours :)

And you know it: Dwarfs for the guns, Trolls for the Bows!
Also grabbed our Engeneer right away.

    Velenorx and Lina

  11. Camaxtli on January 15th, 2008 2:31 am

Big gratz m8! As the defender of BM hunters you deserve such a gun!

May I ask with how many people you downed Doomwalker?

    Regards,
    Camaxtli

  12. Kelektra on January 15th, 2008 3:07 am

There were I believe 25 people, but one or two had disconnected, so near the end there may have been only 23ish ppl.

  13. Paul on January 15th, 2008 3:09 am

That’s a nice weapon. Congratulations! By the way I gave you some money… maybe toward that new 8-core. Love your blog.

    Krahg and Cat

  14. Bumhunter on January 15th, 2008 4:16 am

    Nice gun gratz,

I hope those gems are replaced by now if not your slacking!! :P

  15. Korvenuz on January 15th, 2008 4:23 am

will also be curious to find our if this things is so fast that it will cause ya shot-clipping. If that happens I will be curious to find our how you adjust yer gear or talents to slow down abit :)

    gz on ya mate

  16. Freejack on January 15th, 2008 6:06 am

    Facts:

    BRK doesn’t Miss

    and

BRK doesn’t slow down to accommodate a Macro

Could this be the end of Steady Shot? I’m almost positive we’ll find out after BRK has his date with Dr. Boom.

Until then, you’ll have to rely on the Spreadsheeter’s (tongue-in-Cheeky)

  17. Smokybg on January 15th, 2008 7:00 am

I’m a bit underwhelmed by the amount of upgrade BRK will get out of his SHINEY new gun… It’s essentially 2 DPS on the weapon (which is around 1.25% increase) and half a percent of crit (which is quite nice)… A total increase in damage output of around 1%… But I guess that’s how raiding works :-)

  18. hrrathul on January 15th, 2008 7:22 am

w00t! Gratz! I know how you feel I finally upgraded my wolf with the steam pistol from Al’ar. It was our first Al’ar downing. Too bad we can’t dual wield pistols. ;)

  19. Pike on January 15th, 2008 7:31 am

Wow, that is a yummy gun. Glad it dropped for ya :)

  20. Doomilias on January 15th, 2008 7:34 am

we had 26 in raid, and grabbed some assisstance from another guild who happened to be on their way to BT attunement when we had doomwalker at around 20%

  21. Fiordhraoi on January 15th, 2008 8:33 am

More like a few of them impatiently ran in and started doing a pew-pew suicide run because we were clogging up the works fighting Doomwalker. :D I’m sure the 8k earthquake would REALLY screw up the BT attunement event.

In all seriousness though, that was cool. I’m pretty sure that barring unmitigated disaster, we had Doomwalker down anyway that time (we only had like 5 people dead/DCed when they came in) but the extra help is always appreciated just to ensure it. :)

  22. Bela on January 15th, 2008 8:55 am

aww…wish I’d been able to log back on and come help instead of just wiping in arena all night with my pally’s new arena team =/. Grats on the gun, BRK!

  23. BRK on January 15th, 2008 9:07 am

The stats on the new gun will look better when we get our crit-scope installed. That pic is comparing the new gun with no scope against our Wolfslayer with a crit-scope.

We blew all our DKP on this, even though we probably didn’t have to. Both of the other hunters were Night Elves, both have Sunfury, and they may not have wanted to blow their DKP on this gun. However, if we had tried to low-ball our way through the bidding we might have been seen to be an @ss, trying to get our gun and then outbid them on something else later. It seemed proper to “pay the raid” for their efforts and spend all DKP.

BTW, AC downed Gruul before Doomwalker with a combined 9720DPS and annhillated him in 10 growths. AC dresses for success, you’d best believe it.

  24. Ratshag on January 15th, 2008 9:24 am

Grats on the shiny new boomstick, and another grats to everybody what helped put that bugger down!

  25. pelides on January 15th, 2008 10:14 am

Grats on the gun! Other than the ZA gun, you have possibly the best dwarf ranged weapon in the game!

What was your strat and group makup?

  26. Fiordhraoi on January 15th, 2008 10:28 am

    @Pelides –

Ranged was spread out in 4 rough groups, northwest, northeast, southwest, and southeast of Doomwalker.

We had a Warrior/Druid/Pally tank handling most of the tanking. When Doomwalker would overrun, the pally tank would ranged-taunt him back, then the warrior would taunt him back again when he got to the center. The druid just kept some DPS and aggro going out, and was the one to take over tanking at the enrage.

We had 2 more prot warriors stationed due north and due south of Doomwalker, so that if the pally’s taunt failed, one of them could pick up Doomwalker and bring him back to the center – slower, but it kept that one taunt resist from killing 3-4 people.

There was a total of 8 healers I believe – we picked up our resident Discipline priest last minute to help us out, so it was 26 people total. Good thing we did, too – Cay’s computer decided to exhibit the “Oh look, I have no ground and am getting 1 frame per 10 seconds” bug about 30 seconds into the fight, so we were down a healer there. :/

    Hence, no video.

    OK, noob question here.

I have been playing WoW for not more than 6 months at this point and am still learning a lot. Thanks BRK!

You made the statement above “distribute the loot.” To me, this sounds like someone collecting all the loot from the instance and later distributing it out to the members after the raid, but this can’t be right can it? Aren’t most, if not all, of these items BoP? Wouldn’t distribution occur at the “Need/Greed” popup? Am I missing something here?

I am assuming that by “distribute the loot” you meant that once the roll on the loot was done, you won it, and the engineer left shortly after that.

  28. Shutter on January 15th, 2008 10:40 am

Icedtrip, most guild raids change the loot from Group Loot (that need/greed pop-up you see by default) to Master Loot, where one person is designated by the raid leader and only he can loot items above a set rarity level (rare and up by default). When he loots it, instead of it automatically going into his bags he gets a menu popup that lets him choose a member of the raid to give it to (the item then binds to that person). So you’re right that it’s one person who is, in essence, distributing it, but Blizz built the ML mechanic to get around the problem of binding items to the middleman.

Generally the dkp stuff is sorted out first, and then the Master Looter gives the given item to whoever won it according to whatever rules the guild/raid is using.

  29. john on January 15th, 2008 10:56 am

Noooo. They took our bucket. I mean, ghost wolf away.

  30. Smokybg on January 15th, 2008 11:51 am

Um, I think RatingBuster for some reason does not take the scope into account for the crit calculations; 28 crit rating is around 1.3% crit chance; so the display would be in the red by at least 0.4% instead of being in the green. The actual crit gain would be from the +17 agil and the +3 rating from the socket bonus, which amounts to 0.425 + 0.136 = 0.561, exactly what RB is showing…

  31. Mera on January 15th, 2008 12:14 pm

Don’t forget +1% dwarven racial to crit!

  32. icedtrip on January 15th, 2008 1:04 pm

Shutter, thanks! That makes perfect sense now. Having only done a couple small instances with friends at this point, I am still learning the Raid mechanics. Much Appreciation!

  33. Cynddl on January 15th, 2008 1:38 pm

@Mera – RatingBuster does NOT take into account the racial. I know this, because I’m a troll. Cheers!!

    BRK,

Tell us about the Windserpent on Gruuls!!!

I’ve had cats, ravagers, and windserpents, but never together such that I could do mine own testing. I’m using a Wind Serpent right now, being the Survival Martyr, but as he doesn’t have the damage capacity as the BM hunter’s cats, its kinda hard to compare.

    Enlighten us?

Also, why are you wear T4 gear? I thought you replaced a lot of that stuff with badge-bought items?

  34. Andy C. on January 15th, 2008 2:00 pm

Congrats on the new gun, and more importantly, on downing a world boss!

May Santa Steve bring you more goodies from Mac-mas and thanks for the entertaining and informative blog.

  35. Sephran on January 15th, 2008 2:23 pm

Grats BRK. I keep telling my guild that 40 people need to show up for DW.. then its cake.. One of the easiest fights in the game when you have a responsiple organized raid leader that can lead 40 people.

    Grats to your guild!

  36. Doogie2K on January 15th, 2008 4:03 pm

Very exciting. My guild helped down Kazzak last night — a kitten with 40 people and no deaths — and I got the Warrior shoulders out of it (though I’m too cheap to kit them out with blue gems ATM), so it was a great night all around for world bosses/pinatas.

  37. Imayliya on January 15th, 2008 5:42 pm

Too bad you weren’t on the horde side BRK, I could hook you up with that scope. Eh, maybe one day you’ll see it on a neutral AH..if I can farm up the mats.

  38. Kohelani on January 15th, 2008 10:31 pm

First, gratz on the gun. If anyone deserves it, for all you do for everyone who plays, it’s you BRK. =) Second, what’s up with the perfect speed for a BM weapon? DarkndAngel stated 2.7.. Is 2.6 so much faster that it’s bad?

  39. Burgemeester on January 16th, 2008 3:44 am

    Dear BRK,

As a master engeneer im saying something about the scope

i looked on your screenshot of your bag.

    And my conclusion is:
If the engeneer didnt go offline u still could not have gotten your crit scope ^^

cause u need 6 stabilezers and i see that u got some bars for that. but 1 stabelizer = 2 bars so you have a lack of bars

    hehe gj on doomwalker btw.

  40. Blorg on January 17th, 2008 9:03 am

Crit scopes are all very well, but I’m a big fan of the hit scope from pre-TBC WoW. Tricky to get the mats these days and find someone with the recipe unless your guild was around in the olden days, but all that sweet, sweet hit means you have a lot more freedom with your gear: I’ve got a bunch of S3 gladiator/vindicator stuff in mine at the moment, and the crit from it is lovely (the survivablity increase over T5 stuff is nice too). Plus I like the concept of a longbow with a sniper scope, but that’s just me.

    Just a suggestion.
