BRK Pull Shot Macro Movie and Racks of Lamb

BRK » 14 January 2008 » In Macros, Movie, Mrsbrk, Non-WoW »

So we wanted to do a macro-movie and our last guide showed us breaking our own trap. That’s a pretty good lesson that needs to be taught, isn’t it.

But how to show a tiny-text macro in a compressed movie… we had to do some thinking. Telling people what to type isn’t the same thing as showing them, and hopefully our method in this movie will work.

The full-sized movie (24MB) is available for download here.

A Non-WoW BRK Moment

The Scene: driving Mrs BRK back from the dentist - root canal - and we pass a Latina Hooters.

BRK: “Now that’s targeted shopping, right there.”

Mrs BRK: “What is?”

BRK: “Latina Hooters.”

MBRK: “Wow. Do you think they’re all Latinas?”

BRK: “Yes, most definitely. Latinas with huuuuge tracts of land.” (and he does the whole visual-thing, too.)

MBRK: “Latinas with huge racks of lamb? What are you talking about?”

Yet more unneeded proof that you’re wife is a saint.

    Or

Yet more unneeded proof that you’re wife will get more than half when you hit the big book deal and you forget to buy her lots of Prada Driving Slippers.

    ROFLMAO -

Here is a varient that I use… And sometimes, I trigger this in PVP to get the opposite faction ticked.

    /cast Arcane Shot (Rank 1)
    /stopcasting
    /party PULLING %t (or /say /raid /battleground)
    /spit %t

I like announcing the pull. Communication is usually pretty good and it shows your party that your on top of things. And good on the pulls when a Pally pulls and grabs too much Aggro… this way you can say hey…. “Let me pull, and you grab aggro off me.” Usaully they do not object…

How can a full-grown adult have avoided seeing Monty Python and the Holy Grail without having spent their existence living in a cave?

Christ-on-a-mini-bike! Show her the movie, for her own sake, if not yours.

    @ Dez.

I still haven’t seen it beginning to end. and don’t care to.

Me the half-noob after seeing this movie: “Ooooooohhhhhhhh. THAT’s what those things are for!” Outside of WSG, I couldn’t trap to save my life. Until now. Thanks BRK!

The text works great, even in the small movie. Pausing the movie would allow it to be copied.

You perhaps should have mentioned shift-clicking from the spellbook, but that probably would have added minutes to the length, and maybe confused things.

Wish I had seen these before I started WoW. Any chance you know someone to do a Rogue version?

    Thank You Kindly,

    Corwyn

    But BRK!!!!!!!!

Arcane shot rank 1 is pretty nice for cases where you want to let your tank pull off of you without having to use taunt, but, in my experience, this results in the healer pulling the mob off as soon as the trap breaks. What good is our already laid and ready to go trap on the other side of the room if the mob guns it in the opposite direction? Are we missing something here?

AS rank 1 looks like a good idea, but our pull shot most definitely has distracting shot in it. And if we’re worried that our tank isn’t going to generate enough aggro to pull our trapped mob before he kills us (our preferred tanks know to use taunt), we just Feign Death and Bam! the tank has aggro.

    Keep up the good work,

(PS we know our boots and shoulders are teh suck. shhhhh.)

BRK, Did you give up spider-pig for a ghost-saber all ready? Or did you make the movie before the bellygrub post? Just curious….
Thanks for all of the videos, they are very helpful. If you keep leveling brktestbed as fast as you are though you are going to have him up to 70 before we know it. Keep up the good work!

I like the text in the video.. but .. this is a blog post with a podcast.. you could post the text of the macro in the blog post ;)

    Simplicity good.

I look forward to seeing how you juggle trapping mob A while sending pet on and starting DPS on mob B without accidentally shooting mob A.

Thanks BRK, I had been wondering how to do a pullshot/trap without breaking the trap afterwards.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail (1975) is a bit before her time. Mrs. BRK likes ’80s movies.

    Wonderful info

LOL…reminds me of a time Mrs. Mags and I were driving along, a guy down the road from us had just had his driveway redone.

“Wow, he spent a ton of money on that” I say

    Mrs.Mags: “On what?”

I nod my head in the direction of his home “He Re-Tarred it.”

Mrs.Mags” “Well I know he’s stupid as hell for spending all the money to redo his driveway but I dont know if I would call him retarded”…

uhm….I’m a Priest right? Been that for a while, and I loved it from the start, you know, keeping the people alive and feeling really good about myself (and with my Tank being a un-hurtable Bear, having a real easy job) but BRK? These movies of yours….methinks I gotta roll me a Tiger-hunter soon! :)

    Keep it up!

On BRK’s forum there are a couple of nice posts about different kind of pulls.

Is you don’t need to trap (as in normal single mob questing/grinding) I reccomend pulling woth Rank 1 Serpent Sting.
At level 65 it deals about 6 damage per tick, being the lowest threat generating instant we have, no cooldown, less mana than Arcane, and it never crits. IHMO it’s the best for leveling or grinding. It also keeps Arcane Shot cooldown available if you want to remove that Rejuvenation from a healing mob with a nice Max Rank Arcane Shot.

Of course, you can’t trap if you use sting.
But most of the times if you need to pull to get mob’s attention, you’ll need a high threat shot. Just create a macro like the pullshot but use Distracting instead of Arcane. Better result, autoshot stops and you don’t break your own trap. Also always use “stop attack on target change”.

I also use a “freeze” macro. It sets the trap, forces me to stop attacking and sets pet to passive. I use it in case of unwanted adds coming from behine while I’m dpsing and pet is on Defensive. Or if a rogue tries to gank me while I’m killing 3 elites for a quest (it happens ALL THE TIME).
The macro sets the trap down and prevents me and my pet from breaking it, then I have some time to resume dps and find a new spot, or send pet to the trapped mob after his target is dead.
