Today’s The Day!

BRK » 18 January 2008 » In Blog »

partytime.jpgWe’ve moved our SiteMeter counter to the tippy-top of our side bar for the day. Do you see it over there to the right? If not, your script-nuker is flexing its power and killing it. For the purpose of today’s contest, you may want to disable it, but that’s totally on you, kk?

The Contest is: Get a screenshot of our SiteMeter counter at precisely 1,000,000 and you’ll be eligible for The Fabulous Prize!

Simple? You’d think so, but we have to lay down the law with some Rules. Read em.

The BRK 1,000,000th-Visit Contest Rules

If you see our SiteMeter counter at exactly 1,000,000, take a screenshot and send that pic to brk@bigredkity.net as an attachment, in either jpg or png format. Embedding the pic in a Word document isn’t gonna get it done; our firewalls have been known to gorge themselves on Office documents.

Compress that pic! Try not to send a 4MB attachment, a couple hundred kilobytes should be it.

We’re begging you, please don’t send us a 15MB screenshot of the counter at 1,000,004 and say, “Look how close I was!” Our inbox is disgustingly overflowing as it is. We may have to hire Merry Email Maids.

There will be more than one person who sees the counter at 1,000,000. This is because SiteMeter isn’t as accurate as everyone imagines it is and it’ll server up the same number to a bunch of people, especially when they’re getting blasted with all you smashing your refresh button. Based upon our experience with these contests, we think there will be approximately sixteen accurate and correct submissions.

Mrs BRK will be involved in selecting the Final Winner of those accurate submissions. Not sure how yet, but she’ll want props for Helping.

Do not send “MRS BRK PICK ME!” notes in your emails. She’s completely immune to charm. We totally abused that while we sucked her Mercy dry.

All accurate submissions shall be mentioned in this blog. If you’ve got a website you want to pimp - nothing below ABOVE PG-13 please - we’ll include a link in the BRK Big List of Pre-Winners. (Above, OMG above!)

No photoshopping of the counter. It’s a WoW-blog contest, not PowerBall, folks; no cheating. If you cheat at a WoW-blog contest, just how low in life will you go? Have some scruples and keep your dignity.

Would be some nice promo for my blog if i manage to get one of the 1kk screenies… but truth told, by the time it actually hits that mystic number i will be at home, being a too big a wow-addict to be bothered with reading blogs.. not even brk’s!
    There’s a good reason i post 5 out of 7 days a week :P

  3. Stropp on January 18th, 2008 7:58 am

    “nothing below PG-13 please”

Guess my site will need more swearing and nudity should I win. I think you mean above PG-13? Or maybe I have the ratings reversed. I always thought of G as below PG-13.

  6. Paul on January 18th, 2008 9:43 am

I thought the same thing about the nothing below PG-13 comment. I guess it shows you where our interests are. To me, PG-13 movies aren’t as good, in fact below, R rated movies. BRK must think of this differently.
Why must I always be a victim to my depravity!?

  7. TJ on January 18th, 2008 9:53 am

Just leave me alone with your inbox for an hour. I’ll make sure eeeeveryone gets a… satisfactory… response.

  8. Ratshag on January 18th, 2008 10:19 am

Is a lot of visitors. How you feed’em all? I keeps runnin’ out of buffalo-style arakkoa wings every time I get a big day.

@TJ - Is that one of them satisfaction guaranteed deals? Signs me up.

  9. Bellwether on January 18th, 2008 10:49 am

Wow. 1.000.000 visitors and great prizes to hand out :P.
Maybe photoshop it… nah, that’s just low.

Grats in advance on the 1 million mark.

Awesome notch in the belt for a great blog. Between you and ratshag my productivity at work has decreased significantly, though i do spend a lot more time smiling. Thanks BRK for giving the hunter community this great resource and congratulations on 1,000,000 hits! That’s just astounding… I’ll be part of the F5 crowd in the hopes of my BRK hunter certificate…

I can see it, but a lot of people are banging the site - I’m getting a lot of these messages —-

    Please contact this site’s webmaster.

Wait a few minutes and use your browser’s “Back” button or click here to try again.

If you are the webmaster, your account may have gotten this error for one or more of the following reasons:

    * Your account has used more than its share of the cpu in the past 60 second sliding window.
    * Your account has too many concurrent processes running simultanously.
    * Your account has consumed too much memory.
    * Your site was recently very busy trying to run inefficient scripts.

The solution would be to optimize your applications to use less CPU.
Adding appropriate indeces to your SQL tables can often help reduce CPU.
Using static .html documents instead of painful .php scripts will practically eliminate CPU usage.

    What a mosh-pit!
    Missed it by 3….
gratz to those of you who got the magic number.

Damn this “This Account Has Exceeded Its CPU Quota” message the site meter was at 997,993 and next time I could get in it was at 1,000,022

    ARGHHHH!

  19. Fanthis on January 18th, 2008 1:53 pm

Rofl… Then everyone slammed the server, and all the reloads trying to get in ticked the counter over 1,000,000 and I doubt anyone saw it. -.- That’s what people get for trying to FORCE the count. :(

  20. Canth on January 18th, 2008 1:53 pm

    1,000,028 for me.. Oh well.
Grats to whomever got the lucky screenshot

  21. Malgato on January 18th, 2008 2:13 pm

    Got 999,999!

    Lol.

  22. Lasaire on January 18th, 2008 2:21 pm

Congrats on the 1 million mark!

Your server truly didn’t like you for a while there.

I guess I’ll hold on to my screen shot of 1,000,003 for a little while, just in case…

  23. Tarby on January 18th, 2008 2:23 pm

Grats on the million mark BRK.

    I stopped by 428 over a Mil

  24. Ryan on January 18th, 2008 2:25 pm

    I got a picture of 1,000,000. I hope I did it right and I hope I win.

  25. guy on January 18th, 2008 2:29 pm

Never run a contest like this again. Huntard blogging is serious bizznazz, and shouldn’t be stopped by cronic website refreshers.

  26. pelides on January 18th, 2008 4:18 pm

This weekend alone, I turned 4 hunters in my guild onto this site. I don’t even send ‘em to my own site as I want them to learn to become responsible raiders before they read what i write.
