Gnaked Gnome Race, Part II

BRK » 23 January 2008 » In Blog » 37 Comments

nakedgnomes.jpgOK folks, Saturday it is, thanks for voting. /applaud

Let’s talk Time.

We’re gonna put a new poll on the sidebar where you can select your preference of, or lack thereof, a specific time. Depending on the carnage you gnomes suffer, this race should take 30 minutes to an hour, you think? Make your choice thinking this race could last that long. The Wetlands could be like trench warfare from World War I.

Moar Rules and Explanations

No PvP flagging will be required. The course is the challenge and the fun, not ganking.

BRK reserves the right to flag for any reason, real or imaginary.

We will have at least one BRK Guildie Volunteer staffing the finish line in case someone is able to traverse Ironforge mountain, survive the fall and the murlocks, and come through Menethil the back way.

If you’re a mage, you may certainly use mage-spells, warlocks can use locky-spells, etc. We’re not saying you should be defenseless, just heavily and extremely out-gunned. /chortle

If you do manage to kill something, you may not loot it. Anybody who arrives at the finish line with anything other than that with which they were spawned is immediately disqualified. So sayeth BRK, so let it be done.

In-race demerits remain the right of BRK and will be meted with Misdirection, Feign Death, or both.

Let’s say you create a toon on Drenden tonight, you run to Ironforge and create a guild. Then, on the day of the race, you come to the starting area and get level one gnomes to join it. That’s cool, no problem. But that toon that ran to IF and got the charter cannot race; he’s already gained XP and is forbidden from competition.

If you want to form a raid, you may. If you want to form a party, that’s fine. If you want to run solo, more power to you. Group-tactics are encouraged, (for all the good it’ll do ya.) /re-chortle

We will be creating a special chat-channel for the event. If you wish to create your own channels, feel free. Please feel free to use and abuse Say, but do remember that Drenden is home to lots of folks and they may have an issue with massive Yell-bombs and destruction of the General Discussion and Local Defense channels. Have fun but be good citizens.

We will not be offering guild membership to Aetherial Circle. This is a BRK Worldwide Amalgamated production and not an AC Event.

We have no idea is TJ is participating. We would assume that being in the presence of 100,000 screaming nutjobs like yourselves would probably not be conducive to her mental health, but we’ve been wrong before.

Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Places, Best Name, Best Screenshot, and Most Horribly Lost.

So one can not do any of the quests that give loot? Even food and drink? Eg. carrying the bundle from the tunnel entrance to the Inn.

  2. BRK on January 23rd, 2008 6:31 pm

You can do the quest – it’s not like we could stop you – but it won’t do you any good. Getting to “full health” isn’t going to prevent you from getting one-shotted from the rabbits and moths and everything else rampaging everywhere.

And if you come across the finish line with anything like a quest-reward, you’re outta the pool.

  3. Game Dame on January 23rd, 2008 6:48 pm

Wow, I don’t even care if I place in the race, this is gonna be SO MUCH FUN! (Tee hee! Can you tell I’ve never done anything like this before?) One question, do you need to let Blizzard know? I thought I read somewhere on comments about a video for one of these types of deals that Blizzard got really peeved about it and banned some people. I’m sure being the BRK that you are, you’ve checked this out already, but in case not, I’m lookin out for ya.

Do you need to know our gnome names before the race? Or do we just show up and that counts?

  4. Game Dame on January 23rd, 2008 6:52 pm

Oh, and one more stupid question from those of us who have never done this before (should we have a list?): Do our gnomes really have to be gnaked? Like in their underpants? I just wanna know cuz I don’t wanna get DQ’ed right off the bat.

  5. Ghostkid on January 23rd, 2008 7:17 pm

I have never had an alliance character. What a way to start!

  6. Hyouzan on January 23rd, 2008 7:34 pm

I may have to call in sick that day so I can run the race. Or maybe we can do 2 races perhaps? I work swing shift and that really puts a damper on my WoW fun.

Whatever the masses decide is fine.

  7. Decado on January 23rd, 2008 7:51 pm

well, I made my gnome today to get a decent name. I was just wondering, do i need to make the toon that day or can I have him made already?

  8. Grindurbonze on January 23rd, 2008 8:17 pm

This has got to be the most gnefariously gnerdy idea I’ve ever heard. I’m so there. I’ll be the short one.

    Grind & Plucky

  9. Capn John on January 23rd, 2008 8:31 pm

I’m with Game Dame. My Gnome looks positively indecent in his underwear. I want to be able to wear the armor/clothes he was wearing when I spawned him. Come on, BRK. Do we have to strip down to our short-johns? (coz gnomes are too short to wear long-johns ;)

  10. BRK on January 23rd, 2008 8:59 pm

You spawn with it, you may use it. You need not strip-down. This is a race, not an “exhibition”.

We’ve never heard of a ban for a gnaked gnome race, don’t think it’ll start now.

You may make your gnome any time, just don’t get any XP.

I tried the run with a gnome warrior on some random server. No deaths, and it took me a little less then 18 minutes from spawn to the head of the bridge. I wasted several minutes getting screen captures of the area behind Ironforge. Some folks actually seemed surprised to see a lv 1 gnome in a diaper in Menethil Harbor. Yes, I stripped the poor little fellow down.

  13. Game Dame on January 23rd, 2008 10:15 pm

So here’s the thing. I just finished a practice run on a different server. I didn’t stop, I didn’t fight anything and nothing died from hitting me. I just kept running. But I leveled to 2 when I hit the Green Belt and was at nearly level 2.5 by the time I got to Menethil Harbor. What say ye, Dear BRK?

  14. Stale on January 23rd, 2008 10:48 pm

Few questions… 1. What is the time zone for this event… Being in Australia, it will prolly be more like 4am for me.

    2. Can you take rez sickness?

    3. Is there a prize of TJ making a ringtone like the other prize? Cause that would be an awesome prize

  15. Stuntyone on January 23rd, 2008 11:34 pm

    Nooooooo!!!

I just realized that I cannot make a lvl 1 gnome on a us server unless I go out and buy another copy of wow and give a fake postal code :(

I may just do this however

  16. Bellwether on January 24th, 2008 12:14 am

Looks like it’s going to be during my raiding times. Aw…

Prince mace better drop for this. ._.

  17. JW and Twinkieface on January 24th, 2008 2:42 am

Wow, this is gonna be sooo much fun!

And, can you imagine hundreds of little gnomes all dinging lvl 2 at the same time while running down the road? That’s gonna be awesome!

    Yeah totally. We’re there!

  18. Mandragerin on January 24th, 2008 6:06 am

I am so there… I play a Horde hunter on another server and I’m gonna specifically make a gnome on yours just to play.

For those of us who have never played alliance characters, can you give coordinates of where we start and end?

    Mandragerin and Felix

Sweet! Good times for Australia – so long as one can wake up at 8am on a Sunday.

    /raspberry latte

(For all Aussies: 4pm EST = 8am EDST)

  20. Malakus on January 24th, 2008 9:18 am

What about doing it Tour de France style? Have your guildie at the finish line with a yellow shirt for the winner. Or we could go Olympics with yellow (gold), gray (silver), and brown (bronze) shirts for top three.

  21. dpyers on January 24th, 2008 9:31 am

Already got GnekkidGnome stripped and waiting to run.

During the race, is it allowed to eat/drink items you spawned with?

  22. shifttusk on January 24th, 2008 10:30 am

by saturday do we mean this saturday? I’m pumped and brainstorming a name!

  23. Markus (Gilneas) on January 24th, 2008 10:35 am

I think these races are great idea for guild fun nights. It started in the gnome starting area and we ran to Booty Bay in STV. Talk about carnage! The wildlife in STV was well fed.

One of the funniest scenes was the huge group of naked gnomes running into IF to use the tram to SW. The only place that was cleared was the cave full of troggs that you need to traverse to get from the starting area. Other than that, you were on your own.

We had a variety of prizes from gold (100g was first place) to BoE items that were in the guild bank, including a complete Darkmoon Card set. A good time was had by all.

  24. BM on January 24th, 2008 11:09 am

one question for BRK. can you spirit rez to get a jump or only rez at your corpse?

  25. Naked Gnome Racer on January 24th, 2008 12:27 pm

No Res sickness, walk back to your corpse.

Anyone one on join my party, i will have someone cast “Aspect of the Pack” for us.

And we will have a pally Buff us with bubble.

  26. Ravenstout on January 24th, 2008 1:48 pm

I hope that nothing is ‘cleared’ before the race and that no help is allowed from other players (not level 1-2). It is very possible to get through the cave at the beginning area – you just don’t stand there and attack them – you run… watching your mini-map as a guide.

  27. Mandragerin on January 24th, 2008 2:02 pm

How are you going to have someone pally bubble you and cast Aspect Of The Pack? Gnomes can’t be hunters or pallies, can they? And even if they could, it’s not a level one skill.

  28. Naked Gnome Racer on January 24th, 2008 2:11 pm

    @Mandragerin

A friend will help me… party with them.. They will buff me..

Right before the end, I will have them Disband the party and i will run accross the line and collect my prize! (heard it was 1000g)

  29. Mandragerin on January 24th, 2008 2:34 pm

Then you’re cheating and ruining the spirit of this race. I sincerely hope that either:

    1) You’re kidding
    2) BRK reads your post and DQ’s you.

  30. Naked Gnome Racer on January 24th, 2008 2:46 pm

    naturally! :P

In this case however… how would anyone know. Especially with over 1,000 gnomes on. Unless Blizz monitors this or allows the 1000 man raid. You won’t know. That is my point.

  31. Grazeland & NinjaNed on January 24th, 2008 2:58 pm

Aw, figures you’re throwing it on the day of my “February Sucks” party. (seriously, who doesn’t hate February?)

Yes I could have voted on the day.
No I didn’t vote on the day. :(
Yes I’m lazy and don’t read carefully. :D

It’s cool though. Though I wish I could be there, I’ll be sure to give a toast and say a prayer in honor of your gnekkid gnomes with my WoW buddies.

    ~Grazeland & NinjaNed

  32. Mandragerin on January 24th, 2008 3:03 pm

    @ Naked Gnome Racer

So why not just do it for the fun and not cheat? I’d think part of the fun in this would be to see what happens and how far you can get.

Sadly, I will not be able to make the 7pm start time as I will be in SSC with my guild.

It sounds like a riot and I wish all the runners a lot of fun.

Mah boy Pixylz here, just so you should know would be the shoe in for the best name!
