Can a BM hunter’s pet tank a fel reaver? With heals and a gang that controls their aggro, you bet. Misdirection and a priest can do wonderful things, yes they can.

    I hope it fell backwards or exploded when it died. The thought of 150 tons of dead fel reaver falling on Hobbes is not pretty.

    This dude has always scared the piss out of me when im minding my own business questing.

  3. garil on January 29th, 2008 3:23 am

    that’s funny,but cool.

    I’d rather see BRK tank the Reaver while Hobbes licks his paws

    Heh I misread that as “Misdirection on a priest . . .”

    Good job killing that bucket of bolts — he terrorizes everyone when they come through the gate. Sometimes when i’m on a taxi and I fly close enough to hear the Waaaaararrararrgh sound I still cringe.

    I’m still trying to figure out how, in spite of the gorund shaking and the loud ringing of it’s presence, How does that thing manage to sneak up on so many people?

  7. Bela on January 29th, 2008 8:56 am

    Well at least in my case, fel reavers wouldn’t load on my old desktop until they were right on top of me, so there was no noise or ground shaking. That may be what is happening for many people.

  8. cgeorgemo on January 29th, 2008 9:49 am

    Same for me either it would load the entire Reaver late or it would load the sounds much later than the graphics…either way he’d be on top of me before I knew it.
    The new guy I’ve been playing on Blackrock just got to Hellfire and the Reaver seems to load much earlier and at a farther distance than he did before.

    When patch 2.0 hit, our raid leader respecced full Beastmaster. He then used his boar to tank Onyxia (this was before the Burning Crusade, so we were all level 60). That impressed the hell out of me.

    Hola BRK,

    This gentle reader would very much like to see more of this type of thing (in living color possibly) on your blog. A section devoted to showcasing Hunter coolness outside the confines of regular play. Xtreme Hunter Stunts (note the assonance), with “do not try this at home” type caveats.

    with gratitute,

    Grind & pets-to-be-named

    I want to see your wind serpent do it (not that I’m not impressed by Hobbes’ tanking, mind you). I’m waiting for the day Blizzard puts a script into pet attack whereby the pet turns toward you and gives you a look that says, “Not on your life, bub.” By the way, did you ever settle on a name for the serpent? Did I miss that post?

    I was in Hellfire when my Mac was only 4 months old. Those things still smashed me. It just seemed like the ground shaking and the roar didn’t come until it was too late for me to do anything but go, “oh &^#@”. I think the EPA should get on the developers of the Fel Reaver. Whatever they belch out the back can’t be good for the environment of Hellfire, not that there is much environment in Hellfire…..

    How do you think it go that way?

  13. Lienna on January 29th, 2008 11:51 am

    Wasn’t there even hunter pets tanking certain naxx bosses before BC came out? Is there nothing our favourite little fluffballs can’t do?

    Misdirection and preists sounds very much like fun however you combine them *sigh* off to grind to 70 I go…

  14. Bela on January 29th, 2008 12:24 pm

    @ Lienna

    OMG don’t encourage him…he already MDs on me enough as is!

  15. Hobbes on January 29th, 2008 12:30 pm

    @Gimmlette
    I did look back at BRK and give him that sort of look. But he tempted me with Kibbler’s Bits and some fresh Talbuk meat. That’s what did it in for me.

    Back when 2 of my friends and I needed to kill one for the Shattered Halls key, we 3 manned it. My owl tanked, holy pally healed the bejesus out him while the druid healed a bunch and tossed the sporadic dmg spell, and I DPS’ed the reaver.

  17. Bela on January 29th, 2008 12:46 pm

    @Andy C.
    Honestly, Hobbes wasn’t any harder to heal through it than a decently-geared tank-toon would have been. I’m not sure why your pet needed so much healing.

  18. pelides on January 29th, 2008 12:47 pm

    Awesome! It’s so much fun to prove to the naysayers (not that your group were naysayers) that a pet can tank a serious mob. My favorite was 3 manning Durn with my cat, barada, tanking him.

    If the healers get it into their heads that the pet is the tank… really… no seriously… the pet is the tank.. suddenly they find a way to keep him/her alive!

  19. For the Pie on January 29th, 2008 2:03 pm

    The boar has tanked a lot, he’s tanked the last two bosses in Ramps.

  20. pelides on January 29th, 2008 2:13 pm

    Back in the day, we used to run plateless in UD Strat and I would spec my cat for armor and Shadow resist… can you see where this is going?

    I usually ended up tanking the stitches though since I have a NR aspect.

  21. Andy C. on January 29th, 2008 2:30 pm

    @Bela:

    None of us were anywhere near as well equipped as you and BRK and the rest of your raiders are. So, without the awesome stats on me, the bird wasn’t anywhere near as impressive as Hobbes is. Plus my healing buddies were in the same shape gear-wise as I was, pretty much fresh 70’s in quest greens and a blue or 3.

    Fel Reaver Great Moment:

    Questing in Hellfire with my IRL brother, both at the time lvl 62 BM Hunters. Killing Helboars in the pass, when Fel Reaver approaches. I start to get out of the way, when “Sap!” stunned by a rogue. (He obviously wanted me to get stomped!) But, I had a trinket, and he didn’t see my bro. I trinket, bro traps him, I come up, he trinkets my bro’s trap, but immediately gets caught in mine!

    We run, Fel Reaver stomps rogue into library paste. We return to corpse, /lol

    GREAT moment in WoW!

    Hey! I named my cat Hobbes!
    He is a snow leopard. Yes, from Dun Morogh. I still have my first pet. He is my PvP pet these days.

    I can speak from experience that a Priest/Hunter with pre-kara gear can Duo a Fel Reaver. Me (the preist) and my Girlfriend (the BM hunter) did so back before we had kara gear. She used her faithful kitty (iiaZ) and I even had time to wand a bit :) I do have a high mana-regen as a priest, so that might help, but it is VERY doable.

  25. sepeck on January 30th, 2008 5:16 pm

    My guilds tank warrior and I (feral Druid) two manned one. We were waiting for the hunter to fly over and help get me my key, but were bored and thought what the hell! It was somewhat shocking considering how fast we used to run from those darn things when we just arrived in Hellfire.

    My robo-pig Tuskaluza tanked Durn the other day. Squeal!
