waynesworld.jpg “Dear BRK, hello, Lossendil here and I had a quick…”

DUDE!!! WoWWebStats rocks our world! It’s all you, you know that, we just blog here!

Well thank you, you’re gonna make me blush…”

SERIOUSLY!! WWS is the single greatest raiding tool since the invention of the Skull mark. What do you need, man, we’re all up and excited to even hear from you. WooT!

“OK, your enthusiasm is a little scary, but appreciated…”

ZOMG!! Can we blog this exchange? We totally want proof that you’ve descended from Programming Valahalla into our decrepit little shack of a blog.

“I don’t have a problem with that…”

YES!! We get to talk with the WoWWebStats superhero! /dance-machine!

“Wow. I didn’t know a man’s hips could do that…”

Hunters are naturally flexible. It’s why we eschew plate.

“But more than 180 degrees… that’s a little out of the ordinary.”

PvP Jumpshotting requires some ligaments to be surgically severed. Thought everybody knew that.

“Dude…”

No, really! It’s like Cher’s rib-removal, but they just snip some things in there that let’s us coil like a snake, and POW!

WoW. Web. Stats. I’m looking for suggestions for improvements. Have any thoughts?”

Gotcha. Well, we have the same 40 people who raid and every time we do a WWS actors pull, we have to manually correct 25% of the name and 50% of the pets. Can you make a local cache of names and pet association on my computer so we don’t have to correct the actors list every time?

“Well I’m surprised. The WWS client is supposed to save the actor list automatically. If it’s not the case on your computer, I’ll investigate to see what’s wrong. In the meantime, you can use the “Export list…” and “Import list…” buttons to save and restore the actor list.”

Export List and Import List… never saw those features. That sounds like we could make a huge, master list of raiders and import that list for every raid and WoWWebStats run. What a cool idea.

Well, can you get Shatter damage out of the totals for damage on Gruul?

“It’s done already! If you make the sum of the abilities on your own page, you will see that the sum differs from the “total damage dealt to foes”. It is because damage done to your guildmates don’t add up to the totals. This includes shatters, or damages done while your MC’d. The same is true for healing done on foes, they don’t add up to the totals.”

OK, so this is turning into more of a Teach Noob-BRK How To Use WWS than a list of our suggested improvements.

Can you somehow get Mages and their Water Elementals matched? And Priests and their one-name-only pet? We think this isn’t possible but it’s on the list.

“Hmmm, that’s hard… I’ve thought about splitting the damages done by water elementals between all mages, but that won’t be an accurate solution. Anyway, on this topic, I’m waiting for WoW patch 2.4, the combat logging mechanism will be totally revamped, and maybe it will be easier to assign pets to their masters.”

Sweet. Gonna really look forward to that, we bet all those frost mages and shadow preists are to.

Can we have a Mass Delete function so we can get rid of the 80% of all our “dead” hosted-WWS reports at one shot?

“Yes, definitely. I put this on my to-do list, and it will be implemented soon.”

Can we do a cross-raid comparison? Let say we wanted to see how all the hunters in the past two days have performed against Gruul. The query would look at all the WWS reports in the database, extract all the Gruul kills, pull all the hunter-data for those fights, and make a report.

“Yikes! This is no small feat, dude! Well I’ve thought about cross-raid comparisons for a long time, and it would surely be useful. But I’ve never be able to make up my mind on how to implement this. What would it look like? What kind of information would it present? If you have a clear idea on this, let me know, so maybe we can write a good specification of this feature. This will be a nice first step.”

ZOMG! We’re talking to Lossendil!! It still freaking us out. Dude, WWS is the single-greatest thing to happen to raiding since the invention of the 10-man instance. Thank you for ALL you do!

“/blush
/thanks

Thanks again for your comments. Do not hesitate to drop me any new ideas you could have, even crazy ones.

BTW, I’ve just upgraded your account “bigredkitty” to a “Guild Account” for 6 months. Enjoy!”

/sniff

Oh crap, now you’ve done it. Now we’re crying.

Everybody, say it with us: We’re not worthy!

I was just reading the WoWWebstats post, I think I am going to install it this weekend and try it out. I think our guild leaders might be interested in seeing where folks might improve.

Plus it might lead the healers to toss a heal to the pets a bit more often. ;)

    Suggestion from your GM:

    :P

Timeline graphs. I’d love to be able to see damage output/healing output/damage taken graphed over the length of the fight. Possibly being able to narrow those graphs so that they’re tied to one or more abilities (show me the damage output of Autoshot/Steadyshot, and the damage input of Cave Ins). Being able to match up events would be super valuable.

“Oh look, every time the rogue gets hit with a cave in, his DPS drops to 0 for about 5 seconds, and then it ramps up and takes him another 10 seconds to get back fully into the swing of things.”

Stuff like that is what I’d like, and would help interpret the data more specifically. “I’m not doing as much DPS here because of X or Y, so I need to do Z to compensate.”

I’d love to see a better search on WWS.

I would like to be able to filter the search results on raid DPS. I am looking at other guilds kills of bosses we are attempting soon, and want to know what kind of DPS is needed to kill the boss. Lets use Gruul as the example … ignoring the obviously flawed results, the first page is 18-25000 dps. The last page is 0 DPS, and you have to manually page thru 100 pages of 0 DPS fights to find a successful kill.

How about a way to filter those results so I only see 3000-10000 DPS attempts. Would cut down the clutter a whole helluva lot, and allow me to see what people are doing relative to where I am.

    @Pie

The nice thing about WWS is that there’s nothing to install. At most, you just need to expand your combat log range to 200 yards (I forget exactly how I did that, but it’s easy to find, just a couple of /commands). Then you just type /combatlog and the game starts a combat log file that it keeps in your World of Warcraft\Logs directory.

You feed that file to WWS, and it takes it from there.

Yes yes yes, a timeline graph for WWS would rock my socks. It would be great if on boss fights it would include marks showing boss phases or other specials, like Gruul’s shatters and grows or when Prince’s axes come out.

What I would love to see in WWS is stat comparison across reports belonging to a single account. This would be invaluable tool when trying to plan raiding progression.

Imagine if you where struggling on Morogrim. If by reviewing the past 3 raids, it became obvious that you needed more healers then dps to down Morogrim, it would be easier to notice this with data mining from reports.

Also adding a “consumables” check would be nice as well. Easier to figure out where you are falling flat if you have raiders who are not taking consumables on gear check fights, etc…

Being a voyeur of this information and not actually getting to raid with advanced groups yet, I’d love to see how the different parties are set up for the raids I peek at damage and shots on. I would love to see if some of the “lower” performing hunters have no mana battery or if the the really high DPS hunters do have a mana battery in the party.

I know it may sound silly too, but I’d like to see Race included with the party info too to see if The Dreanai Heroic presence does much.

As my gang of thugs get ramped up I’d love to be able to get in the mix with the right knowledge of synergy and “best mix” ideas. It may be a farce to do this, but that’s my thoughts for now.

And BRK, you ARE worthy. …the rest us are more normal, but you are getting a stong following, just wait for the Gnaked Gnome Race. You’ll see how many BRK fans there are. :-)

I also really like the idea of showing a graph timeline of DPS over the course of the fight. Seeing up and downs, and linking them to boss abilities and phases would be really cool.

No kidding about BRK being worthy. Everytime he answer my e-mails I get that “OH OH A CELEBRITY IS TALKING TO ME” feeling. Purty cool!

Lovin’ the WWS, BTW. Thanks for the training with it ;)

For the Mage’s Elemental problem, I don’t know if it can help but theres a damage meter mod called “Recount” that keeps track of pet damage seperate for each Mage’s Pet.

So it list pets as, Water Elemental[Utada] : 123483 Damage, Water Elemental[Geldin] : 4212 Damage, Hobbes[BigRedKitty] : 948348 Damage, and so on. But instead of “[" and "]“, the mod uses “< " and ">“. I dont know why but it wouldn’t me use those symbols in this comment.

Maybe you can look into that mod and see what they did to distinguish the elementals and find a solution.

On the one hand, very cool.

On the other hand “Best thing to happen since 10 mans”?! No, no, a thousand times no. 10 mans are aweful, very bad, no good things (I’m looking at you Kara and you’re horrendous 1 week reset timer).

The sheer pain, suffering, and drama of having to exclusively lock chunks of the guild to seperate instance ids is traumatizing, especially for those of us who tried to make a smooth transition to BC. Kara’s badly planned implementation alone lost us at minimum 6-10 good raiders and friends…and we were the LUCKY ones. No other guild from our server survives from Pre-BC.

Until they sort out a better way to deal with instance keys, please don’t encourage Blizz by saying that stuff was a good idea. /beg /sob /shiver

Any spec can be successful! :)

My spec is 0/27/34 and it works just fine! BM has the awesome advantage in arena to dominate MS warriors, Mages, Locks and pretty much any class a hunter usually is annoyed by. I’ll give you it’s only 18s, but 18s can cause a lot of things to happen (others using trinkets and cd’s) and then you still have outs when the big red fades.

BM is definitely an excellent spec for arena. Marksman may “seem” like its the best, but don’t be fooled! It’s the way you play, not the spec you play.

    Timeline graphs would be lovely.

I think I would like to be able to separate out self healing/pots/soulstones. Maybe that makes no sense but the healing done graphs always seem to make me go “hrmmm”. Maybe that isn’t the solution at all. hrmm.

  19. Evil Sheep on February 1st, 2008 12:20 am

I’ve been using WWS to show a couple of guildies the difference between BM and other (lesser) specs as far as damage output goes. Overall it’s a great tool, but what I would like to see is a way to a) read the entire combat log without having to trim it or b) wws have the ability to only pull a portion of the combat log, say the last 12 hours, without me having to manually edit the log.

Other idea, someone out there who knows lua scripting a whole lot better than I do, come up with a plugin that makes separate combat logs every time you start the logger. Or, if one is already out there, someone post the link so I can avoid getting sucked into google-search universe and wasting the next 5 hours of my life, please.

  20. Doug on February 1st, 2008 8:31 am

A line graph of damage over time would be sweet, on an individual basis (especially if you could stack other attempts on that boss on top to have a visual comparison of DPS output over time per attempt in a boss fight to assess areas where improvement could be made).

Also it would be interesting to have something similar for raid DPS, with additional information including player death/consumable use.
