Premade, Schmemade
We were in one winning pug yesterday where we didn’t fire a single shot. We went to the mine, guarded it, no Horde ever showed up, so we just sat there the entire fight. Got the honor, but no honor-kills, no killing-blows, no damage at all, and no deaths. Pretty boring picture of that victory screen, don’t you think? Exactly, which is why we didn’t screenshot it. Unlike these, which tell a good story.
We espouse the beauty that is Beastmastery, no big secret there. SV and MM can do just fine in PvP, we’re not saying they can’t. What we do want our readers to know is that the BM-spec, long the most reviled and ridiculed of the three trees, can not only survive in raids and PvP, but flourish.
Do you think some Arathi Basin pug-vs-pug screenshots could provide incentive for a hunter struggling with the decision as to which spec to take into PvP? That’s what we hope when we do raiding-posts; inspire and teach and have some fun. So maybe it’ll work with our PvP work.
Maybe.

So what does premademean?
To be honest, BM isnt as good as MM in group PvP, not by a long shot. It works great if your ninjaing nodes alot though.
I notice you’ve got a good kill/death ratio, but that doesnt really matter. What you should be concerned about is caps and total damage done.
Worse than a 70 player not knowing what a premade group is, the 70 player who thinks a premade is something other than when people get together as a raid group before entering the battleground. Pudanda was not happy and would not let us guard the same flag as him.
I feel for you, man. I know what it’s like to be stuck on defense duty at a node that no one tries to contest. Sure does make you just want to mount up and leave the flag to fend for itself. /hand slap
Its nice being top on dmg/kills/etc, but none of those things are an indicator of having done well, there is only one thing that matters, did the team win. And the way to tell if you did well is to ask did your actions make the differnce between the team winning or losing?
I’m far more impressed that by the game where you stayed at the mine, even though no horde came to you. Also doing that defending thing can be great for honour. I often end up doing that and getting 1-2 horde every minute or two, basically giving me 21 honour per kill. Its nice to see on the board: 15 Killing Blows and 15 Honour Kills, it means you weren’t part of the zerg, your kills made a difference.
I was wondering if I’d ever face BRK in a BG. Sadly I was ill most of the weekend, got the honor necessary on Friday night to upgrade my boots (until a Kara boot drops) woot!
I think in Battlegrounds, any spec is viable and can be played well, if you know what you are doing. I think MM may get more killing blows due to high burst damage.
The MM/SV spec is nice to stand way back and hit them with an OMGBBQWTFROFLCOPTER Aimed shot crit and I think it usually causes folks to panic when they see their health disappear in a moment.
The high Crits are/were nice when I dabbled in MM, but BM fits my style a little better. Although Scatter shot is evil. When I was playing the Battlegrounds more often, I usually specced into swiftness and it was nice to have a pet that could run down a FC, even blinking mages.
My problem with BG is I just can’t make myself put on tons of Stamina and not hit as hard. Plus locks with 12k hp is very evil.
i was wondering what spec you are running in these BG’s?
is it the raiding spec you roll with or do you move some stuff around for BG’s?
i am trying to guide some hunters in my guild on the ways of teh BM hunter and some are taking to it and others are scared because they are afraid they will not do well in PvP.
thank you
HOLY S! I just saw you are in my Battlegroup, BRK. My 70 Nefl Druid is on the Antonidas server. We’ll have to try and coordinate a time to do a match together.
Keep an eye out for Nocturneus
“I think in Battlegrounds, any spec is viable and can be played well”
Ding. BG’s are a cakewalk! If you have good gear even more. The reason is mostly that what do BG’s do? Let players who can’t top 1500’s or can’t get raiding move into some epic gear. Because of that you see tons of poor players and horribly geared alts who really just are fodder to a hunter with a purple weapon. The fact remains if you look at any battlegroup the top rated hunters in 2’s 3’s and 5’s are generaly marks. In Ruin its in all 2’s and 5’s in my new battlegroup its 2’s 3’s 5’s. The consistant utility and higher dmgper hit are far more valuable than higher dps while planting.
Nice damage, btw. I don’t count Killing Blows from hunters because it’s too easy for them to cherry pick near-deads from us Melee’ers. Don’t even try to say that not all hunters do it, because that’s BS. LOL – They may think they are “helping”, but all they are really doing is “stealing”.
I prefer BM in BG’s and Arena’s (It also out DPS’ most classes in PVE). In MM and Survival you are prone to too many classes different forms of CC (Mages frostnova, Locks Fear) but you also have less classes you can contain easily.
Scatter shot is great but invariably you have some loon with a DoT on your target which breaks the scatter.
Silence is excellent but not any use on Feral, Rogue or Warriors (and little use on hunters).
Intimidation stuns ALL classes and The Beast Within makes you immune to a fair bit of other classes stuns, fears, slowing effects etc.. etc..
Mages moan as they can’t Frost nova us, get stunned and die in 3 – 4 hits. Albeit they can sheep most (Except Druids).
Locks moan as they can’t fear us and get stunned and die. Albeit they can fear most classes (With the exception of Warriors, Undead Rogues and priests with FW on) ..
However, both these classes (Pure DPS classes) can spam their abilities. They don’t have CD’s like we do yet they moan about BM nubs etc.. Just because we are not easy honour anymore..
Anyway, enough of my ramblings !! BM is the Future.. BM is your Friend!
Messyah… LOL.. Come on mate.. Lets be honest.. You’re telling me that every class doesn’t use a finish instant cast when they see someone is about to drop?
You watch the priests with their Shadow Word Death.. And Like you won’t be spamming execute..
Behave yourself mate! ‘I don’t count killing blows from hunters’ … Clearly a hater!
Killing blows are essentially meaningless in BG’s as are the damage meters. I routinely top the meters in AB and AV (especially in AV if I’m on defense), but all it means is that you had many targets to shoot at for a long time. It could have been a druid in bear form that was constantly getting heals from a paladin or two. That right there is enough to put a BM hunter over the top on the meter without actually accomplishing anything useful.
At the end of the fight, the number of flags/graveyards, etc. captured and defended is ultimately more important than HK’s, KB’s and hitting #1 on damage. I’d rather defend the mine and do little damage and walk away with 3 tokens than top the damage meter and walk away with 1 token.
I’ll second Aryzel. The charts rarely tell the true stories of team contribution.Terrific that you stayed put on D. Horde often seems allergic to D…must make most of us itch or something.
Only stat that really matters in Battlegrounds.
WIN
Cuz you could be stuck at mines or LM or Farm and no one comes near you. Heck on battle I took BS, stayed there calling out inc and stuff with Eagly Eye and no one approached until the game was over, I ended up with 1000 damage, one cap and that’s it.
I’ve seen rogues with very little damage done but a ton of caps.
In the end, did you get 3 or 1 marks.
At least to me.
Hey Spearchukka…
1. “Intimidation stuns ALL classes and The Beast Within makes you immune to a fair bit of other classes stuns, fears, slowing effects etc.. etc..”
My Feral Druid has a 15% chance to resist stun, and I know BM hunters are like ZOMG WTF when I do. LOL – Holy Pallys can get a resistance to stun as well, and their Hand-of-God Bubble.
2. Frost Nova DOES have a CD, so it cannot be spammed like Fear can be from a Lock.
3. Look at the range of (most) of the Caster’s instant casts and then compare that to the range of an Arcane Shot. – The majority of kill stealing is done by hunters, but that may also be due to the fact that my server’s populous is 54% Hunters.
4. I’m a Feral Druid… I don’t get Execute. I do get Moonfire, and if I spam that, all I can do is make someone’s ball hair flutter for a sec. LOL
Pelides… I agree with you 100%. It’s all about WINS vs. LOSSES.
You can be number one in KBs for the match, but when it’s Game Over and your team lost, guess what? Your team lost. So what did all those KBs really contribute? A bigger epeen? That’s about it.
I don’t care how many KBs I get (or don’t get). It’s all about HKs and Deaths; the more I have of the former, and the less I have of the latter, the more beneficial I’ve been to the group. Of course there’s also the situation like BRK’s where he appeared to do bugger all for that particular match, but in reality he was protecting a valuable Node.
If all you care about are KBs, you’re missing the big picture.
Win FTW!
just noticed funny thing about those numbers in tables there – screen1 – ally – total killing blows – 84, now, I would think that it should equal or at least be very close to total number of horde player death count, but it’s 63…, second screen – same setup – numbers – 60:40… there are lies, big lies and then there are stats
btw well done considering those are pugs
Whats up with the zero healing done in one match? You too busy killing to toss a mend pet on poor Hobbes?
Not knowing what a premade is pretty bad…but I had a hunter earlier today ask me “what talent tree snake trap was In?”…./facesmash keyboard…/groan
Somehow we won that match quite easily…go figure?
@modulok
Most times folks ignore the pet. If they are killing it, it’s usually too far away for me to drop a mend pet on it. The pet may chase an ally as far as it can, but I don’t leave the flag.
Sometimes, if folks see your pet go Big Red, they’ll pay more attention to it.
@Corwin.
Also notice that there are 20 characters listed and a total of 29 played. In other words, not all characters are listed (the screen scrolls).
Thank You Kindly,
Corwyn
hiya BRK
Read what you did and something happen to me last night that sort of, kinda, plays in here about BM
I have 43 points into it (please, I know it is too many, but this is my first character and dont want/need to respec yet) and I am on a RP PVE server (I dont care for pvp). Yet, somehow, I have 10 wins in pvp. And last night is what I want to mention. This lvl 59 Draini (sorry for the spelling) Shaman was flagged pvp beating up on the lower 20’s in Tarren Mill. So I rode in, and went to town. Mind you I am level 58, and really dont know BG’s or how to fight other characters. He dropped something, a totem my friend said, not sure what type and I slowed down. Aha! BRK said to get the last thing in BM to turn me into a big red killing machine just like Bruuny. So, I popped Intimidation fired off an arrow, then popped The Beast Within! My gosh, Bruuny turned red, I turned red, he saw red, went down and died. This went on 4 more times. He comes at me, we all turned red and he dies, lol. So thanks BRK. Thank you for opening my eyes. Thank you for the training videos (they taught me a lot). Thank you for the site.
Hey BRK,
Just realized you were in my battlegroup and lucky me! I just played an AB and EotS against you. AB was fun (Horde won) and EotS also fun. I have been BM since my toddler days and love it. Too bad I have to be 40/21 for better cc (and scatter shot is so evil for PvP). Anyway, fun to see you in action – even if you are on the bad guy team.
BRK, you are the shizzle and you know it! XD
