BRK Jump Shot II Movie
We are concerned that not enough people have a grasp of mouse-moving and the keys we use to achieve a good jump shot. Thus, we’re doing a JSII movie!
When we say Aspect of the Beast, we really mean Aspect of the Cheetah. Doop. And those fweep-fweeps you hear in Ironforge are people whispering us as we recorded our movie. Do not adjust your speakers or think you’re hearing things. We only remembered to mute that later in the movie.
Download the full-sized (52.1MB) movie here.

Well explained, even if I still do it differently. I simply can’t make it feel right to run by using the double-hold on the mouse. I just hold the right button and run with ‘W’ and fire Arcane with ‘E’ (’F’ is for Steady macro).
I love the movies you make but this one is simply the best, in my opinion. Easy to understand and a very real and accessible practice regimen. I never would have thought to use the floor in IF to gauge my precision. This is something anyone could watch and practice.
Even half- crazed, blind monkeys like me.
YouTube is now part of the conspiracy to keep me from learning jump shot.
“We are sorry, this video is no longer available”
I’m getting a video not available.
Make that number 3. /shakefist
Oh well. I think it’s the fates telling me to just finish the questline I’ve been on for the past week… lol!
Man, that sucks. Darn YouTube!
Good ol’ Feign Death Corpse Jump/Slide
Hilarity.
Try it again, we smacked YouTube upside the noggin and got it working.
Thanks, that is much better (simpler).
Thank God for trackballs, I LOVE my trackball for doing jumpshots: run with both mouse buttons, turn with the trackball, shoot with the left hand. Works WONDERS!
Nice movie BRK, hopefully you looted teh buzzards for meat for the kibler treats!
Another question, do you know how often you have to do damage to keep the kite up?
Great video, however I’ve always found that for me at least, it’s easier to just do a 360 spin in the air, so that I land facing the same way I was running. I just time the shot with my spacebar hit. It was harder for me to stop the spin at 180 degrees, I was always over compensating on the return.
Neat. Now I don’t feel like such a goober for practicing in IF.
I’m assuming that toon side doesn’t make a difference so that the motion with the mouse for the turn-turn part is the same for a tauren as it is with a dwarf. Because for the horde, non of the major cities have the nice grid patter like IF. Horde cities tend to be more “organic”. Slivermoon might work because in some spots, but not as nicely IF. So I’m gonna practice, practice, practice on our dwarf and hope it works with our tauren.
Thanks again for doing a part two. I really appreciate it.
Are you going to make this one available for download like all the previous ones? I would like to add it to my BRK Movie collection.
I agree with earlier sentiments. Trackballs make jump-shots MUCH easier. Just hit space bar while holding down both mouse buttons and a spin is just a thumb-flick away. I try doing tripple sow-cows with mine. Great fun!
BRK… What’s a Spearker?
Thank you for doing a part 2! I’ve been trying to practice jump shots on my own but I wasn’t really getting the hang of it; now I’m off to Ironforge to practice.
Dude, BRK, thank you!
I’ve still got some work to do but I’m on my way.
Thank you so much BRK! That explains it so well. I wasn’t completely sure how to do it from the first movie, this one breaks it down really well. Now I just need to find time to practice!
Mirshana and Grr
Whee! Thanks, BRK! This one makes everything much clearer. Can’t wait to practice.
Yay it works! Never thought to practice in IF, but it is nice to see I’m not the only one having issues with camera angle after a jump shot.
And ROFL at the ending! “Get a mouse! /grumble”
Was really hoping you’d show us how to kite a fel reaver somewhere fun.
My favourite part of all your videos has to be what you say in the last five seconds. Always gives me a giggle.
(Have to say though, could never quite catch exactly what was said in the closing seconds of the “Hunter Horror! In Redridge!” video. Something about a raspberry latte perhaps?).
If people are struggling, to the point you have to make two videos, on how to achieve a simple 180degree Jumpshot, then i’d suggest they reroll.
It’s not hard people.
For an alternative, more easy going MMO for those of you still struggling, please head on over to: Kittieonline.com
Thanks,
Fish
What I have never understood is why people do really basic things very complex. You can do the same thing with out all the spinning and the jumping.
The jump shot has no advantage over just turning 90° in either direction and just strafing.
The field of view for any class is 180° degrees. If you face away from your mob and turn 90° degrees towards it and then strafe away from it you are still running and its in your field of view.
You can use all your stings and shots with out jumping.
If you want to see where you are going you can just rotate the camera. I usually don’t need to.
People on your server probably thought you were bonkers, running and jumping around in IF. Now the people on my server are going to think the same of me when I go practice.
That’s actually really helpful. I’m not really good at jumpshots, but that’s because I only ever seem to attempt them in BGs, it never occured to me I could practice pretty much anywhere.
They don’t seem to like my troll in Ironforge though.
Nice job BRK,
Smeh had a nice one that I learned from as well. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cXk8hiZYANw
I like the Dwarf look more anyway. Actually I like the male troll bow shooting animation the best, but it’s all good. Learning how to play a hunter better is the important part. Thanks!
Why didn’t you loot the buzzard corpses? There might have been epics!
Fantastic video — I wish it had been around when I was a lowbie.
BRK, Very nicely explained! Much clearer than JSI. I appreciate your patience in making another movie to show all of us apparently slow people how to perfect our jumpshot, even if it is not needed as some are saying, it is another tool that will be nice to add to the arsenal of hunter moves. I am sure mages and several other classes can use this movie to learn how to jumpshot as well. Thanks again!
Super! My wee hunter was practicing running along the road in Dun Morogh, and when she would waver she would run right into a wolf or something. Haha, but that is part of the fun!
What about strafeing?
Sorry if this is absolute noobery but iv always found it much easyer to pull off the jump shot albeit a little harder navigate corners.
p.s love the movies, my little noob hunter is comeing along nicely.
Yo, BRK, track pad comment directed at me? Lol….
Rayare from Troll on a PowerBook
I learned this on the big bridge in Darnasas, if you messed up you just fell in the H2O. l am sure people thought l was crazy, running back and forth for what seemed like hours.
but but but, if I use a mouse I can’t sit all comfy on my sofa!
I’ll need to practice that jumpshot though… something I never learned to do as I’ve just soloed my hunter to 70 >_<
In spite of one comment above, not all of us find it easy and we certainly are not going to reroll. I have been practicing since I managed to make it to 70 and Kara without a jump shot. I have been practicing on the Hellboars instead of buzzards. It is a kick to bring them up to the Temple flight point though most of them then jump off and back to their starting point.
I still have not got the techique down well enough to avoid taking a bit of damage but I’m getting better. Thanks again, BRK
Thanks for the great video
I promptly kited tusker into telari and out the other side before the guards got her. I had expected to get her as far as shat before they took her out :/
Here’s a good practice spot– Telari (speaking of which) If you screw up, you jump off the bridge and die
You learn not to get sloppy really fast hehe
- Annie and Sandwich.
I’m one of those who’s still confused, can you lay it out for me pls? When jumping, the only shots that I have tried and succeeded in shooting are:
-arcane
-concussive
-stings
So how do people shoot off the other shots (autoshot, multishot) while kiting? For autoshot, do you stutter step, timing your stops to coincide with your autoshot activating?
The only shots we use during a Jump Shot are Arcane, Concussive, Stings, and maybe Distracting if we’re feeling it. You’re good, JackP.
One important thing to take note of is that you can indeed loot the corpses afterwards, even though the NPC’s most likely did most of the damage. This can be helpful for mobs you couldn’t solo yourself, as long as there is a strong bunch of NPC’s nearby that will attack and grab aggro.
