We Hate The Evade Bug
OK, so there are multiple ways to kite a Fel Reaver and we tried the two most easily performed: The Jump Shot Kite and the Pet Kite. We totally got hosed on both of them.
First kite, we had the Serpent Sting cooking on the Fel Reaver when we FDd, and that should’ve given us time to get up and get back to range. But no-dice, dumb thing evade-bugged and took off.
Second kite, we got that b@stard into the temple, but the NPCs just sat there dumb and happy and didn’t pick it up. Evade #2 and we were so discouraged we quit for the night.
Phooey.

I laughed so hard when I read “so there are multiple ways to kite a Fel Reaver” and then had to explain the following concepts to my girlfriend so she would know why I was laughing: kiting, fel reaver, evade, evade bugging, and npc.

So what’s the Pet Kite?
Corwin on 17 Feb 2008 at 7:31 am #
it might be a problem with not enough threat from serpent sting on FR after you hit FD, that’s why he evaded try #1, had same problem when kiting him to those horde elite aoe caster npcs east of horde fortification
try #2 - FR didn’t do his AoE attack, that would have aggroed whole temple
same thing with me trying to kite FR to those npc I mentioned above
3rd try was a charm for me though, got pet between me and those npcs, MD, aimed/arcane/steady on FR, he runs for pet, I run to npcs while shooting him, he kills pet, comes for me, does his AoE, aggroes elites, they nuked him while I corpse ran back there - shattered halls key quest complete!
I did kite him to same NPCs later with my feral drood, 28k armor and 35% dodge FTW!
so as +15% speed increase from 4set gladiator bonus

Dunno if it was a bug that saw him run away from you, BRK - you feigned death both times, which wipes your threat same as if you died for real, which resets the mob - and then they won’t aggro again until they get back to where they started, which is why the evading. IIRC Blizz did that to stop people training mobs onto other players (it’s still possible but it’s a heck of a lot harder). I guess Hobbes had no aggro the first time, and the second time had lost all aggro by the time you FD’d, so it didn’t switch to him?

I was on my lowbie dwarf hunter last night. I was in Ironforge and saw about three peeps in there jumping up and down turning on the squares just like in the video. I didn’t think much of until I watched the video this morning.

Bah posted comment in the wrong post. Dang multiple tabs! Above comment was supposed to go to the Ironforge video post.
I go nothing for the evade except it is annoying at times.

I love the sobbing Dwarf at the end…

I tried to kite one of those too. I dont like how Bizz has blocked us from kiting by making most big mobs resistant to slowing effects. Same with the Gronn in Nagrand. Not that I would want to kill it (maybe), but kiting it around hellfire 3 or 4 laps would have been fun. Great video…

Fel Reaver already loves me enough. I certainly don’t need to antagonize him into chasing me!! Thanks BRK for the videos. Great stuff and great help. Also thanks for dropping by and posting on my blog!

Back on our old server, PVP Tortheldrin, my Shammy friend and I got the bright idea to team up on the Reaver, just him, me, his fire/earth totem, and my pet. MD to Kaida (my pet), send the poor gal in, aimed/distracting/auto (or arcane, not sure which popped first), and away we go. Ocean’s keeping heals on Kaida while I and his fire elemental totem burn it down.
Worked loverly. Til lag came and ate Ocean’s face. =(
Second go, we had a guildie helping. Mage. Didn’t go so well, mage critted the bajeezus out of that reaver, got wiped, and in comes two horde to smack away at first my pet, then once they realized Ocean could heal through that too, my healer. They wiped us THREE TIMES on that stupid hunk of metal and never did he go after them.
So we transferred. =D

I know what happened… Simple enough really.
First of all, mobs have a timer. Unless they have a target or are recieving damage within around 8 seconds they will reset. DoTs don’t count. That strikes out the first attempt as the FD wiped aggro and Serpent Sting is a DoT.
The second was problematic because Hobbes only dealt direct damage in the beginning. The entire chase into the temple was without this.
A few nights ago I fooled around with my then 62 Warlock. I had a few elite/group quests. One of them was the one to bust of the rockthingies just west of your temple (meh…). I quickly learned that I couldn’t just draintank them, their spawn would just kill me. So I had to fear them (I found that while feared they can’t spawn shardlings), too bad for me that when feared they have no target, and since my lock is Affliction my damage was purely DoTs and drains (never had time to get Immolate off before I had to Fear). So those crappy rocks kept evading at 50% damage. It was a horror trying to kill them like that, but itcertainly showed me how far you can bend the gamerules, apparently not very far.

I swear to god, I just saw two fel reaver’s corpses in shattrah. I don’t know who the enterprising soul was that did it, but you must share. XD I wish I had screen shots but I logged on, and just as I picked my jaw off of the floor to do the screen shot, they faded.

I think, if anything, you’ve proved that those Ally sissies in the Temple are a bunch of punks compared to that gang of mages that hang out outside Thrallmar
.

I’ve seen the aforementioned dead FR in central shattrah city…so there must be some way to kite the damn thing for a good distance.
But its true, blizzard hate it when some1 finds something fun or new to do outside the typical. For example, exploiting an overlook to tame a ghost wolf or setting a snake trap off at the feet of an unflgged hordie and watching them run from anklebiting snakes. Also kiting elites into towns and cities has also been nerfed to hell.
MajHunter on 18 Feb 2008 at 4:46 pm #
Easiest way I have found to kite that fel reaver is to find him over near the Horde city. Set focus to pet, misdirect, arcane, multi, target the elite caster mob group outside the horde city and send in the pet with a mend pet cooking.
The Fel Reaver will chase your pet all the way to the city. Hopefully killing him over at the casters. The casters will use and AOE on your pet which will also hit fel reaver and aggro him. You feign death cause when they kill the fel reaver they are coming for you. LOL
4/4 success rate this way.

I managed to do my first kiting of a Fel Reaver to Thrallmar yesterday. Not very far, as I don’t like the dazed effect when the big fella stomps. I hadn’t thought of your idea of sending in my pet first, to increase the range I can be at to kite him!
So thanks for some more ideas on how to play creatively. I’m sure others have done it too, but this was the first ‘how-to’ video Ive seen.
Gratz, keep up the work. This one BM Hunter who is an unabashed fan.

Hi, can you tell me what program you use to record your videos? I tried Fraps but they turned out so large that I couldn’t upload them to Youtube. If you are using fraps, what setting do you have to record at so that the file size stays manageable? Thanks for any advice! And nice Vid!

Me and a resto druid kited that fel reaver into Thrallmar. Took out a mob of npcs, horde players, and a bat rider. It proceeded to glitch itself into one of their buildings. Then the gms decided to despawn it.
It was a good night.
