Two AV Screenshots That Tell Stories
Double-mongoose enchants. /passout
Azurite Ring of the Champion is Str, Sta, and Defense. Defense? /re-passout
Now then, we have the utmost respect for Braids and her uber PvP skills, and at one time she posted a screenshot that showed her accentuating towers captured and defended as more important than kills. No lie, she’s absolutely correct. Getting honor is the name of the game, winning the war is what it’s all about.
But when you’re a hunter, defending towers isn’t our strength. Confined areas and LOS issues crimp our efficiency at killing stuff.
Hunter bring MQoSRDPS, baby. If you play offense, you may be counted on to kill stragglers of the opposing force, NPCs, wolves, rams, whatever and everything. Killing things fast and for long stretches of time, that’s our bag.
And when you play defense, like we were doing that resulted in this screenshot, killing the enemy before he can capture a graveyard close to your base is everything. Winning. Do whatever you need to do to help your side to the best of your abilities. We know that is what Megan was really saying, and that’s what we want you to get from our posts, too.

I don’t recognize any of those folks.
Hooray for being done with grinding honor/marks in AV. AV sucks. AV has some aura that makes Horde players lose their ability to rationalize, follow simple directions and remember we work as a team.
Emberstorm Horde side AV without a premade..for the loss.
Oh and for those horde side on Emberstorm, if you see all the allies or most of them are from Drenden…desert. They will melt your face. It’s too simple.
I’ve played two games against them in premades and we lost one badly and made them work for the other win. They are good..dang good. Sadly, I cannot say that for every other server in the battlegroup.
Horde hunters have it a little better defending Stonehearth and Icewing bunkers. We can trap the entry and have our pets waiting there on aggressive….perch up the first flight of stairs and have a nice line of sight…keep a flare burning most of the time.
I hate even trying to defend or retake our AV towers….always end up in the tiny flag room trying to pretend to be a melee master….though if other REAL horde melee artists are with me, I can complement the action some and be very helpful.
You do some serious damage, Daniel. Wouldn’t want to meet you on the battlefield….not unless I snuck into range while you were otherwise engaged.
Congrats ahead of time on your first 2600+ raptor strike crit with your new axe……hopefully some rogue who you already wore down to a nub who thinks all he needs is close range to put you away. Will that rogue be surprised.
I like to see what’s really important to you.
480 bonus honor!
This, boys and girls, is why Zball sits on D and farms HKs. I mean, recaps towers and GYs. Right? Of course.
A very short time ago my “hardcode” raiding guild decided to recruit a few more huntards…. 1st hunter had the polearm from BT, (Halberd of Desolation, http://www.wowhead.com/?item=32248) with mongoose on it.
A week later a loc also joined the guild, mate of said huntard. On this day i linked my nice new welfare axe, (the 1 brk has has just got) with the std +35 Agil chant on it, and this bloke, says in guild chatt, “Dude mongoose FTW!”, and then i had to try to explain to him how bad mongoose is, and if it procs it will be absoluty useless, and if a hunter is “in melee” then u have already done something bad… etc etc. His huntard mate left the guild the next day…

It is a true fact that the Horde towers are less then ideal for hunter combat. In fact they flat out suck. But the alliance towers are plenty nice for hunters to sit in. I usually prefer to place the frost trap on the landing between stairs and sit at top of second stair so you can be supported by any team mates around. While for me this is defending a capped tower, it should work equally well from an originally defensive point of view. Great blog btw, I discovered it a few days ago and have been reading back posts and such. Thanks for the effort put in.
Keldaen and Ghanima (or Wiggin or Stilgar) Burning Legion Horde, Battlegroup Vindication
to me the second screenie is showing that you had more HKs and dealt more damage, yet point out you got the same bonus honor.; almost as if you’re annoyed by that, considering the stats for second place. Correct me if i’m wrong.
obviously what the score chart doesn’t show is the amount of honor you and your party gain from your HKs. Yes, you’re a very capable hunter, but BG is a team effort, and as such you get the same honor bonus on top of the rest of your honor for objectives as the rest of your team does.
as for paul’s comment on mongoose. Okay, yes, it’s bad if you get in to a melee situation that you can’t deflect. But equally, if you do happen to find yourself in that sitation (and lets be honest, it does happen) AND mongoose procs, how is it bad that you have it to use, and do some more damage? The way i see it is it’s a skill, and as such you use them all to your advantage, whether that’s in ideal situations or not.
I like to play defense mainly in BGs and in AV I see my most important role as defending GY flags and the bridge into the Alliance base.
In any BG, as I have posted about myself, I believe the hunter shines when working to contain, control and support. Keep the opposing faction slowed, keep the clothies up and pew pew away!
I may not show any ‘defended’ flags in AV results but I know I’ve done my part in defense.
I have done some tower defense before where I will position myself on the ring opposite the flag with a frost trap at the bottom of the stairs and rinse and repeat trap and flare to stop those sneaky rogues and druids. LoS *is* a biaatch though so generally need support from a melee class to succeed.
jrb, Mongoose just plain sucks for a hunter… You’ll get much more benefit from +35 Agi even if Mongoose procs when you get in a melee situation as +35 Agi adds to your damage output at range as well, so you may actually kill your opponent before he gets close enough…
I guess BRK succumbs to the same ego trips as us mere mortals.
I’ve seen a few screenshots where it shows you as top damage.
You know how easy that is to do? You know how easy that is to do as a hunter?
What I don’t see are are any objectives obtained by him.
It’s not hard to pew pew as a hunter. It’s not hard at all.
Gotta disagree on the hunters suck at taking towers idea.
We can track and see the horde coming. Drop a few slowing traps. Send the pets to munch on some horde @ss and if they get too close in the confined space, play “chase me” round the outside of the tower….true if they catch us then odds on we’re in trouble. BUT while they are chasing us, running over traps and taking concussive shots they aren’t taking the tower back. And if they do start eying up the flag…well a well timed Arcane shot flyby will dissuade any ideas.
Every second we’re /rolfing,/tickling them while defending the tower they aint taking it back. Its a great feeling to keep some horde muppet playing catch up for ages to then see the tower go up in smoke. And while the silly little orc stands there looking confused we jump on our robo chicken say /hehe and leg it…
vcproj: I’ve had the opportunity to cap graveyards or towers a lot of times when I’ve been the first one there. But instead, knowing there’s, say, a priest right behind me, I’ll put down a trap, sic my kitty on a Hordie, and start pewpewing while the squishy takes the flag. For my trouble, I generally get heals & buffs (if needed), we get honor, and a timer going on a cap. OH…and…we still have a live healer-type.
It’s all win.
The only stat that matters is win/loss.
All others suck and blow.
HK’s? Not hard to get just be where there’s a lot of killing going on.
KB’s? If you did it all yourself, sure it’s a victory, but normally you have help.
Honor is currency, you can either get a lot of currency all at once or trickle through currency (ie play a lot of games) Either way doesn’t make you a good/bad player..just a player.
Maybe the Hunter with dual Mongoose and Defense ring was one of those rare, elusive, DPS lower than my tank’s Melee hunters! At least in my experience the dps was always low, but they sure were entertaining to watch in action, running about dropping traps and crap, and whacking away! I’ve seen 2 on my server that actually had the nerve to run higher level dungeons, and I actually support them, gogo play how you want…but really why not role a rogue?
And why do they seem to stack defense?
Do you use spirit bond in your pvp spec or did you add it to you list of talents BM hunters should have at all times? I don’t remember it being in the guide is all and was just curious if it was situational or good because of you being in PVP.
Thanks and I love your website and forums.
I see something else terribly wrong in AV screenshot - Some raptor on cat action going on!
