2v2 Fever, Baby!
Gotta finish our 2v2s for the week to make our required ten matches. We were four and two on Tuesday with a 1603 rating. Let’s try not to blow it, shall we?
2v2 Beastmaster Hunter and Discipline Priest
Match 1. Loss, Ruins: Affliction Warlock and BM Hunter. Man, we were really dumb. We totally violated our little mantra of “4 on 3, don’t touch the pets”, and went for the Warlock’s doggie. Just the worst choice, anything would’ve been better. /smacks self into competence
Match 2. Win, Ruins: Feral Druid and BM Hunter. Druid stealthed-cat and went for Bela. The hunter kinda lagged and let us burn down the druid quickly. Over just as fast as the first match, totally opposite results. Although we really had a mental-lapse with the first game, we need to make up for that.
Match 3. Win, BEM: Enhancement Shaman and Holy Priest. This was a mana-war. We switched to Apsect of the Viper right as we saw their makeup. Burn the mana, burn the mana, more and more and more. Killed the shaman two times it seemed before he went OOM, then their priest went OOM the same time Bela died. BRK versus two OOM toons! Smooshed the shammy first because he was closest, then the priest. We may have been alive at the end, but only because of Bela draining the mana from them both.
Wow, we’re six and three this week in our 2v2s. One more win, can we pull it out?
Match 4. Win! Nagrand: 27/34/0 Warlock and Discipline Priest. Another massive mana-battle. These guys were good, using the pillars to go LOS of us and heal. But we stayed right in the middle and kept a Snake Trap down at all times, and also making sure we didn’t go LOS of Bela. More mana-burning for Bela, more Aspect of the Viper for us. We had enough time in this fight to Bestial Wrath two times and still they were both alive. Warlock finally went down, and that priest was so pissed that he just stood there and let Bela smack him with her mace. Since she did so much good work tonight, we let her finish the priest off.
And we totally forgot to screenshot it. /headdesk
But seven and three with a 1633 rating! That’s not too bad, is it, for our first arena season?
And is that gonna net us, well, like 1000 arena points! Yes?!
Our 3v3 team went 0-3 on Tuesday and stopped to ease the pain. So we picked that up tonight, too.
3v3 Beastmaster Hunter, Discipline Priest, and Affliction Warlock
Match 1. Loss, Ruins: Shaman, Priest, Rogue. That silly rogue had 13k health. We’re beginning to smell an out-geared team now prettily easily. We were crushed.
Match 2. Win!! BEM: Druid, Hunter, Druid. Thank Elune we broke our four-game losing streak. Feral druid ran ahead of its healing and we burned it into the ground.
Match 3. Win, BEM: Pally, Mage, Druid. Fire mage, Lefaye spell-locked him, we Intimidated him, Lefaye Death-Coiled him, and that squishy was torn to pieces. Two in a row, and it’s about time.
Match 4. Win! BEM: Mage, Hunter, Druid. Druid was feral, trying to heal. Smooshed the mage pretty quickly. Frankly, this was a bad team; Feral druid was healing and the hunter was a 0/61/0 spec. We got 6 points, we think.
Match 5. Loss, Ruins: Warrior, Pally, Mage. OK, this team just formed, but they were Rivals. Jeebus, that warrior practically one-shot Lefaye. No mas, now get out of our bracket.
Match 6. Loss, BEM: Warrior, Priest, Warlock. More Rivals. Their strategy was great, loved how they deployed the priest on the bridge so we had to go on the bridge to attack him. He easily jumped down, making Hobbes have to run alllll the way back down the ramp. This strategy would’ve been terrible against a rogue, but against us it was perfect. This is the singular area where we are the weakest: developing strategy based upon terrain and our opponents. This was a “bad” loss, but it taught us a lot.
Now get out of our bracket!
Match 7. Win, Ruins: Pally, Warrior, Mage. Crushed it, we’re designed to handle this group. Mage got eaten, Hobbes was very happy.
Four and six with the 3v3 team, but four and three tonight. Our little 1470s 3v3 team needs to stay away from the Rivals and people with 1000 resilience, OK Blizz? How about a little gear-matching love.

as a druid fan I can’t wait till you get to meet that nasty feral druid that knows how this hybrid class needs to be played (and has 2 tier5 armor pieces
), from what I’ve red this far on your arena adventures, it seems that all ferals you meet seem to stay in cat/human/bear all the time and just let themselves be killed
Hey BRK — long time listener, first time caller. Love the blog, man, keep it up.
I love reading your PvP recaps, mostly because I’m very much a PvEer and — in the spirit of full disclosure — truly, deeply suck eggs at PvP. Massive kudos on hitting 1633, that’s a major achievement! My warlock buddy and I are still stuck around 1550 because we can’t seem to find any balance in our battlegroup, Reckoning. We’ll occasionally find people who are around our ability level and gear, and those fights will be challenging and fun. But every once in a while we’ll come up against some team in FULL S3 gear who will annihilate us in mere seconds and we’ll lose 20 points. ~raises “WTF?” flag~ That, to me, is frustrating because I understand that what separates the good players from the great players is the ability to overcome that kind of situation, but again, I’m not even sure I qualify for the former, let alone the latter.
On your rating, according to the Arena Point Calculator (http://www.wowarmory.com/arena-calculator.xml), your rating of 1633 will yield 387 arena points in 2v2, for a grand total of 645 arena points. Quite good! I could be wrong on this, but I don’t think the game adds up all of your team ratings and awards you the points. You receive points based on your highest potential points, so you could have a lower rating in 3v3, but if you get more points than your 2v2 rating would award, you get the 3v3 points.
Now, for the fun stuff. I have an addon to recommend to you. It’s inobtrusive and purely utilitarian. The addon is called “ArenaPointer.” The download site explains it adequately: http://www.wowace.com/wiki/ArenaPointer. I’ve used it for a while now, and I like how it removes all the voodoo (and ALT+Tabbing) from Blizzard’s point system.
Apologies, here is the proper ArenaPointer link, minus the stupidity this time:

Hahahaha, my team is exactly the last team you versed in your 2v2’s… my Disc priest and my partner’s SL-SL lock.
We went from 1500 creating the team today -> 1702… and I don’t even have 200 resilliance
(198 to be exact… 300ish for him.)
Only teams we have lost to are resto druid and a mana drain character or Hunter/Priest. They drain our mana faster than I can drain theirs…
Oh an we vs’d 2x full T6 chracters… Shammy / Lock and we went 4/1 verse them… it was ownage apart from when the lock 3 shotted me :S
