" Do you need to blow 1500 gold on this baby? Nah, not really. If you’re a Beastmaster and have Serpent’s Swiftness, you’ll make the gun proc more than any other spec, so you are allowed to drool over it a little more than our MM and SV brethren.

If you can’t stomach going into pugs for the Veteran’s Musket and aren’t running Kara, you could do a lot worse than grabbing one of these out of the Auction House, we won’t deny it. But the first boss in Kara drops a nifty crossbow; don’t blow your epic flying mount fund for this if you’ve got the resources to get into Kara."

Um... yeah. But the Don Santos is CONSIDERABLY better than the Steelhawk or the Sunfury if you're a Beastmaster and using a 1:1 shot rotation.

Don't be dissing the Don, now!

Bounty you should use the gun. It's not the DPS # that matters so much as the weapon speed. If you use the Sunfury bow and auto-steady-auto-steady you will have more dead time between shots and do less DPS.

Very interesting.
On my hunter i got the sunfury bow of the phoenix and the wolfslayer sniper rifle. I am a dwarf of course and BM of course.
ive talked to other hunters and they say that being BM i should use the gun because of the speed. a guildy of mine said only reason i should consider the gun is because of my racial for 1% to crit and that the sunfury is better because of its 83.3 dps
compared to the sniper rifle's 79.1 dps. get back to me please BRK, need some closure on this dilemma.

Nice post. I have a 70 dwarf hunter who's been on ice since he dinged 70. He still carries around the Gunblade. I don't see any real "easy to get" guns here, as he isn't Kara geared. Is there anything decent that drops from 5 mans or heroics?

Please, please let there be a PvP longbow in S4 that doesn't require personal rating! I'm weeks new to PvP after being a PvEer since launch. I'm lovin' it, but it'll be a little while until my 5v5 team is breaking 1800...

Don't want the best PvP bow in the game - haven't earned that. I just want *a* PvP bow. Not an xbow either please, Blizz. I'm an elf, dammit - guns are for orcs. (Sorry BRK) ;D

WTB bow and xbow review asap. :P
I rarely use guns. If one of these beauties drops, I'll use it, because they're all better than Valanos Longbow.
Given a choice between gun a bow(or crossbow), even if the gun had a slight edge(~2-3 dps) I'll take the bow.
The highest level content I'll be doing anytime soon is heroics or kara, so I expect to be sticking with the Gladiator's Heavy Crossbow I'll soon have for some time.

I'll try not to make too big of a mess when I drool all over this post and the upcoming bows/crossbows one. Though hopefully my current crossbow is on the other list so I don't feel TOO left out in the cold...

Alanor.

In raids it can get a little hectic, perhaps the following will help.

If you use Omen, then recolour both your and your pet's names so you can easily see where you are on the threat list (I use bright green for pet and bright red for me). Don't bother with "am I 2 or 3?" just make sure you're NOT at the top.

Learn the group's strategy, but at first just focus on your and your pet's part. Write it down in 3 or 4 lines for an easy reminder. You don't need to know -precisely- what the other groups must do unless you're the leader.

Pick a good spot where you have a good view of the fight, but won't have to move much. Stay at the back with the other casters, and let melee run around.

Many addons can also give sound warnings for high Aggro, low HP/Mana, and available specials; very often you can set the % where it will alert you.

I've been raiding for two years now, and I still have problems with information overload at times. Just go with the flow, focus on that Mob, and be glad you're not a healer because they have to keep an eye on everyone!

Kemonojin on 02 Mar 2008 at 6:43 pm :
"Does plinking at Dr. Boom give you skill points? I once did it for 45 minutes, just to use up some ammo I didn’t have space for once I replaced the gun I had at the time with a different bow, and didn’t get one skill point."

I go plink at the "servants of ..." in Blasted Lands to raise weapon skill. They get down to about zero percent and then just don't die. Keep the pet healed (not hard as they're about level 50) and fire away with your new weapon. Gets you well into the 300s in no time.
