We Haz Achieved Tier 5

BRK » 06 March 2008 » In Gear »

rsg1.pngAC knows how to do Leo the Blind now. We have killed him before, but there was a lot of luck involved. This time, after four days of wipes and massive repair bills, our awesome guild grabbed Leo by his blindfold, slapped him around, spat on his boots, called him childish names, and took him down with only one raider dead at the end and almost a full minute left on the enrage timer.

Just as Shade of Aran was our biggest stumbling block in Karazhan, our SSC-c0ckb10ck is thusly conquered.

So sayeth BRK, so let it be done.

And we even got the privilege of blowing all our DKP for our beautiful new gloves. Shiny, pretty, oooo! Yes, we got to visit that other gear vendor in Aldor Rise finally.

See that +19 Hit? It totally wacked out our gear. After putting these mittens on, our +Hit was 157. That’s way too much; anything over 142 is a mathematical waste. We needed to drop that significantly while maintaining our socket bonuses and keeping our meta gem functional. A carefully regemming was needed.

(Note that we’re comparing our new T5 gloves against our Gauntlets of the Dragonslayer that have two +8 Agility gems in them.)

We had three Glinting Noble Topaz in yellow sockets in our helm, shoulders, and chest. These gems were taken out and replaced with three Wicked Noble Topaz. Our +Hit is now “down” to 145, which is still above the Hit Cap but we cannot lower it any more. We’re not going to have missed-shot DPS-loss, that much is for certain.

So in addition to the RatingBuster stats you see in the picture, we dropped +12 Hit and +12 Agi, (the three Glintings) for +12 Crit and +24 RAP, (the three Wickeds).

What are we really after? That two-piece Tier Five set bonus, foshizzle. “Causes your pet to be healed for 15% of the damage you deal”. /boggle We don’t think Hobbes will ever need a Mend Pet again.

Dragonhawk boss on Tuesday, Leo the Blind on Wednesday. /cheer!

Holy crud, we need to farm some cash. We’re down to 3500 gold and have spent 700 gold on gems, enchant mats and tips, and talent point respecs in the past 10 days!

BRK go for Void Reaver in TK next. A really easy boss to take apart and smack around a bit. the strategy is easy to pick up and getting the entire raid to the VR alarm addon really simplifies the fight.

One of the least challenging 25 man bosses and he drops T5 shoulders to boot….I just won mine woohoo!

Now if only I could persuade my guild to beat up a defenseless old guy i might be able to get me gloves too….

  2. Felandra on March 6th, 2008 8:12 am

    Wohoooo!

Grats mate. And I say go for the next piece. Burn favours and whatever DKP you have… even gold if it comes to it.

  3. Mandragerin on March 6th, 2008 8:38 am

I’m confused… if the gloves as they are are giving you too much hit rating, why is that a problem?

  4. Morquendi on March 6th, 2008 8:39 am

LootReaver !! T5 shoulders and LootReaver Leggings… probably the best pants you’ll see until Mount Hyjal.
Oh and kill Alar for the gun while you are there.

Or.. kill Hydross for the RangerLord chest.

So much lootz, so little time !

“I’m confused… if the gloves as they are are giving you too much hit rating, why is that a problem?”

lets say with 142 hr, you hit 100 percent of the time
now you have 157 hr, which allows you to hit 101+ percent of the time. kinda a waste no?

  6. Kolan & Jag on March 6th, 2008 8:46 am

    Gratz BRK,

That set bonus is awesome. I finally picked up a couple of T4 peices and was like meh, bonus shmonus.

However I did top the damage on Grull tonight at 1024 dps. So something must be working.

    Cheers

“I’m confused… if the gloves as they are are giving you too much hit rating, why is that a problem?”

It’s not a problem unless you have +hit somewhere else that you can get rid of and get a useful stat in return, such as dropping +hit gems for AP/crit.

That makes sense… I’m a bit fuzzy on how hit rating works and what the max is.

correction…there was almost 2 minutes to spare. check out the WWS report again…Leo down in 8 minutes 21 seconds.

Holy mackerel, GRATS BRK!!! This is me smiling for another hunter, IRL! Way cool!!

  11. Annie on March 6th, 2008 9:57 am

I got outbid on those shoulders (the ones in ZA) by a Enhancement Shammy *criessobs* They look so nice. T_T

Congrats on successfully reaching the shiny new plateau, though! XD

    Gratz to BRK and AC.

The T5 2pc bonus is SO hot. I am so glad I was able to get it before we stop T5 content.

You’ll have fun with Karathress next I suppose. Or perhaps even Solarian - she’s a very simple fight.

  13. Doomilias on March 6th, 2008 10:03 am

AC is hitting FLK on Sunday (and time permitting Tidewalker), and VR/Solarian Monday night.

  14. Furio on March 6th, 2008 10:18 am

those gloves are full of win. the T5 shoulders and legs are great too. i hope you get them soon. as i’ve said in your forum many times the 2 set bonus is unmatched.

  15. Taconite on March 6th, 2008 10:31 am

    LOL @ Bigredkitty, down to 3500 Gold :D I wish I had over 1,000 G

  16. Akubal on March 6th, 2008 10:46 am

Yeah, I wish I could be “down” to 3500 gold. Friggin.

  17. Irwin on March 6th, 2008 10:57 am

Gratz! Hope you get your 2nd T5 piece soon!

  18. James on March 6th, 2008 12:18 pm

@Doom and BRK - you guys should be able to get Solarian down in one night. Not very complicated, just need people to pay attention for when they get Wrath (aka THE BOMB!) Good luck for when go for her.

FLK is a little tougher though. Requires great amounts of healing. I recommend making a macro:

    /tar Spitfire
    /cast Auto Shot
    /petattack

I just got my T5 gloves for my Feral Druid and low-and-behold, they SUCK compared to my S3 Vengefuls, which is what I expected. The T5 gloves have more armor, but every stat is lower and they offer no special equip abilities where as the S3’s do.

Grats on the take down and gloves :D

  22. Chromaoran on March 6th, 2008 1:47 pm

Ohh you’re gonna love the 2 piece bonus BRK. I picked up the legs off fathom lord last week and yes, you *have* to respec :D
3 points in imp AotH with a 3.0 speed weapon makes a huge difference if you dont have to worry about your pet dying.

    ssc
5/5 nature resist, 3/5 for fire and frost was my pet, but im thinking 3/5 shadow would be good for the Fathom lord encounter as well.

The nature being for those big boglords with sporequakeeeeee

  23. Dagashai on March 6th, 2008 2:08 pm

Hobbes gets back 15% of the damage you deal as healing with one more piece?

    Jesus… you’d be able to solo… everything….

That Boggles for sure. MyMyMy have not yet heard of a finer hunter’s set bonus…..

  25. Chris on March 6th, 2008 2:56 pm

Grats BRK!!! I was outbid on those gloves last week but made up for it by getting the tier 5 leggings from Karathress yesterday.

  26. Hoder on March 6th, 2008 3:11 pm

Alas, I am in the opposite position, bidding most of my saved dkp and gettin gmy T5 shoulders, dropping a fortune on gems…and now i am also below a comfortable number of gold in the wallet, and looking for the next easiest t5 piece fight. That bonus is great, even if I am not BM spec…

  27. Blogzorz on March 6th, 2008 6:17 pm

Grats on the new kill. Wait till you get to Vashj. Now that will be a wipe fest.

  28. Dancingion on March 7th, 2008 7:17 am

I have the badge gloves, and the beastmaw shoulders atm, so the T5 gloves would be a smaller upgrade for me than the shoulders, so for right now I am pooling my DKP for the shoulders. Besides, I am kinda sick at looking at the same shoulder graphic for months on end now. Its so exciting to actually have a shot at T5 gear, isn’t it?

  29. Tisi on March 7th, 2008 9:41 am

    Congrats.

One q, does the healing ‘dealt’ to Hobbes gain you aggro?

  30. Val on March 7th, 2008 10:43 am

Well, a mend pet returns 230ish threat per tick when I check my pet on omen, which is about 0.5 of the heal amount (~475)

usually it’s nothing compared to what he’s throwing out with his growl+claw, but I can see this as posing a slight problem if all of a sudden your pet starts kicking out 7.5% more threat on top of what he’s already doing.. (would that be accurate?)

If it works in this way, your damage and pets threat would be linked together so I’d be hardpressed to figure out how to get around it. I’d be loathe to advise less dps =/

    Here’s hoping the healing is threat-free ^_^

bytheby, Grats on the T5 BRK

  31. Mudge on March 7th, 2008 2:11 pm

The T5 shoulders are pretty nice (I got lucky with a 99 + 160 dkp a few nights ago) … and the electrical discharges running over them are impressive. We have gotten the hang of VR and Solarian now, so next up is A’lar. We find we can clear to Solarian faster than to VR, and VR will reset if you run out his door, so we do Solarian first, then clear to VR where we can retry even after mobs repop at the entrance.

Thanks again BRK for the good info and support of BM Hunters. I now regularly hit 1000+ dps and have no worries about getting invites. Life is good when practicing MASRdps.

  32. Cynddl on March 7th, 2008 3:25 pm

    BRK,

Can we get some recent WWS reports? I’d like to see what your overall guild DPS is floating around for the various 25man fights yall are on.

  33. Corwin on March 7th, 2008 4:15 pm

btw, what’s your strat on human leo when he splits at 15% ? you go all out ignoring threat or do still manage aggro and let him be tanked?

  34. scathatch on March 7th, 2008 8:18 pm

All mighty lord of the Kitty I’ve been doing the math and for non-surv hunters would be 97 hit rateing for tk and ssc bosses this equals a less then 1% miss raite as for surv hunters with points in surefooted i’ve estimated a hit raiteing of 57 to be adequate for the same miss rateing. For 100% accuracy i’m not sure the numbers, but i believe in a previous post it was stated that going for the 100% hit could be anti-damage efficient do to nerfing ones own AP and crit rate. If I’m inccorect on these numbers please inform as I’m our guilds highest rankn hunter and get asked many questions about hit rateing.

  35. Val on March 8th, 2008 12:44 am

    Hit Rating
    ~15.77 = 1% hit

all mobs have an inherent (from what I found) 1% chance to cause misses that can’t be worked around.

but for 73s (skull mobs) a hunter would need 9% to reduce his chance to miss down to that base 1%

9% = 141.93 ~ 142 (which is what BRK talked about in the article)

add: I do believe I’ve heard it told that the game considers bosses in Heroics 72s which results in less hit rating needed, not sure how much less though =(

    For hunters taking Surefooted:

    6%(full 3pts) = 94.62

if you run with a spacegoat, rejoice! -1% for you as long as s/he’s in your group and is a warrior, pally or hunter and not a priest, mage or shaman (Heroic =/= Inspiring)

    =/

  36. Chromaoran on March 8th, 2008 5:48 am

I don’t think I agree with Val at all.

Full clear of SSC with the exception of Vashj gave me the following results with 130HR on a Tauren.

First number is normal + crit hits added together.
    Auto 1922, miss 5 (0.3%)
    Steady 1228, miss 1 (0.1%)
    Arcane 429, miss 0

ie, about 0.17% miss with Hit Rating of 130.

  37. Kagekami on March 8th, 2008 11:52 am

Chromaoran, the %-age is just the probability.

This is the same phenomenon that makes your paperdoll crit 25%, but on any given raid-night you might find that your steadyshot has a 27% crit rate, and your autoshot has a 22% crit rate.

As long as there is a randomised element to the game, you will see results that are different from the estimate, but only by a small amount.

Now, the MAIN contributing factor to your numbers being off however, is the following:
    “Full clear of SSC…”

Full clear includes trash. Trash is not level73, thus requiring less hitrating to always hit. the 9% only applies to bosses.

I’ll wager a good hefty amount of internet credibility on your misses occuring only during the bossfights, and that with this in mind, they would account to something a lot closer to the 0.75% miss rate that you should be seeing.

  38. scathatch on March 9th, 2008 3:38 am

Ok now I know why my numbers would be off I was calculating with trash not just the boss. Thanks a heap for the feed back am i right that surefooted talent is =to about 45 hit rateing?

  39. Val on March 9th, 2008 10:18 am

Surefooted talent (full 3pts) is ~47 hit

and yeah, when I posted about hit rating I was referring to what it takes to hit Bosses not the trash on the way there

    =/
