Hey BRK, I’m don’t have a reply in that particular thread, but I am fairly heavily involved with the GWJ guild on Blackhand-A. Yes, sadly, he isn’t kidding about the weapon enchants, or any of it. Probably isn’t kidding. I actually used to run with GWJ-A, and their level of theorycraft is about on par with this guy’s. This is a group who, for PvE content, described the need for spell penetration as “as much as you can fit in.” =)

Who is this Baseball jerk, anyway? I’m an officer, and I’ve never even heard of him. Suffice it to say that we are a casual guild that has some members who eat, sleep, and breathe theorycraft, and some who do not - and all are welcome as long as they hew to our mission of being excellent to each other. That post was by a guy who is still levelling, btw.

Hi. I’m the guy who posted that above.
And just for another interesting bit of backstory regarding GWJ, et. al.
I was invited over from Dark Age of Camelot by a RL friend of mine who thought I’d enjoy playing WoW.
I have a hunter on DAoC — Midgard Galahad, lvl 50, Master Level 10, and Realm Rank 5, whom I’ve played for years there, along with my other characters - mostly warriors.
I’ve played a hunter on DAoC , and melee hunters are a viable option there with our wolf pets + bow. It’s not uncommon to see melee spec hunters. It’s what I know and what I’m used to playing, and the playstyle I’ve developed for the last 5 years on my hunter.
Bow, Pet, sword - check.
So I come to WoW … mostly solo for 30 levels, and then another guild hunter notices me with the double fierys and immediately sends me here to “straighten things out” …
’nuff said.
I’d like that taken into perspective regarding the theory behind GWJ - and understand it in context that I’ve been playing WoW for 2 weeks vs. DAoC for many years. Same class name — different game mechanics.
Problem sorted out and solved.

I re-read through some of the comments. I honestly don’t know what “spell penetration” even *is* …
If it’s what I think it sounds like, then in DAoC we had something called “Spell Piercing” to basically overpower resists, and the hard cap on spell piercing was 10% - which my character had.
Rest assured - I eat, sleep, and breathe game theory - from back in my days in EQ, to DAoC, and I’m “slowly” coming up to speed here.
That’s why I posted the thank you to the folks at GWJ that pointed me here.
To put things more in perspective — I’ve been to deadmines instance once or twice at this point, and another guildie took me through the stockades the other night, and I was extremely proud of myself for finding my way to Gadgetan a couple nights ago.
Let’s take this stuff with a grain of salt here guys … it’s not like I’m lvl 70 out trying to raid.
That’s why I made the effort to come out and be pro-active and start learning all I can about the class and the game mechanics as I’m getting a feel for it.

I always refer people to this site. Last night in a Sethekk Halls PUG I inspected the other hunter and found a nightmare. I thought she was joking when she said she could tank but it was all too true. A total of 24 added agility from gear! The rest of the gear was spell crit and healing. When asked, she replied her spells were stronger and the pet got healed more. I am not that good but I always try to be helpful. Here’s to hoping that she was paying attention and comes to this site (or TKAsomething or EJ). Anything…please

I’m so sorry Baseball that my comment about Spell Penetration ruined your view of GWJ’s intelligence. At the time I really didn’t fully understand penetration, though at least I knew it wasn’t all that important for mages (though, I’m not quite sure why you quoted me here, on a hunter site…?), so I said to fit as much in AFTER mana/int, damage, crit, hit, and HP. Way to go, taking that comment out of context.
I have now deleted the entire post, since it’s really not relevant anymore anyway, but if you wish to continue mocking my outdated view of the game then you can do so with the cached page in Google. Just please stop publically bashing the entire guild for it.

I have never played a hunter at any level, but I read this site because the wisdom behind the hunter-specific advice and strategies can often be generalized to the game as a whole. And its an entertaining read, as well.
If I ever do roll a hunter, I promise I won’t be a huntard.
