Happy PvP-Birthday to Us!
Just when we say we don’t have a clue what we’re doing, we get a silly trinket and a resilience gem, and BAM! We only did four of the 3v3 arenas and went 2-2. Our partners racked up the great record there while Bela and we went to do our 2v2s, which we skipped last week. And look how we did! /mega-preen
2v2 Arena, BM Hunter and Discipline Priest
Match 1. Loss, BEM: Holy Pally, Frost Mage. Went on the bridge. OK, we’re never ever going on the bridge again. /no cookie!
Match 2. Win, Nagrand: Holy Pally, Frost Mage. See?! On the ground, we’re great. Smoked the mage, we used the trinket to get out of his first ice attack, allowing us to save Bestial Wrath to burn him down at the end of his life.
Match 3. Win, BEM: Affliction Warlock, Subtlety Rogue. Killed the rogue first, not the warlock. We wanted to kill the warlock, we always do. But then Bela gets smooshed faster than we can kill the lock, and thats not sound strategy. Killed the rogue with extreme effort due to that stinkin’ bridge, but getting that rogue down felt sooo good. Bela hates ‘em, so we hates ‘em.
Match 4. Win, BEM: Subtlety Rogue, Shadow Priest. Again, gotta get that rogue. We want so badly to get the priest, it’s a squishie BM hunter treat! But the rogue is a Bela-killer. We stayed on the ground as much as possible, used our trinket instead of Bestial Wrath, Snake Trapped the F out of the place, and came out with a three-match winning streak. But don’t say anything; no jinxes!
Match 5. Win! Nagrand: Affliction Warlock, Subtlety Rogue, same as match 3. Easier than the other match due to no loss-of-sight. Holy wow, this is going great!
Match 6. Loss, BEM: Frost Mage, Assassination Rogue. Oh we said something. Poopy. And the bridge does us in again. This team did so well using it against us. The mage put the elemental on the bridge while we tried to stay underneath it to no avail.
Match 7. Win, Nagrand: Frost Mage, Assassination Rogue. No bridge this time, ya smarmy B@STARDS! Kill the pet in three shots then kill the rogue. Sweet. If you let us stay at range, nobody out-DPSs us, period.
Match 8. Win, BEM: Subtlety Rogue, Subtlety Rogue. HA! We thought we had no chance, especially when they made us go up in the center of the bridge. They went for Bela, we were left alone to Max-DPS. We got to Rapid Fire and auto/steady and everything. You have no healers, you stay in our line of sight, you’re going to die. So sayeth BRK, so let it be done.
/Tarzan yell of power!
Match 9. Win! Ruins: Subtlety Rogue, Subtlety Rogue again! They changed their tactics and went for us! /yikes! One sapped us, we trinked, then the other sapped us, we Bestial Wrathed, we burned a rogue into the ground. Since they both used their saps, they couldn’t sap Bela. Trinket saves the day! We <3 Trinket!
Match 10. Win!! BEM: Soul-link Warlock, Discipline Priest. Stayed on the ground and under the bridge, long fight but that priest finally died. We’ve learned our lesson: BEM sux.
ZOMG we went 8-2 in 2v2! What a great birthday present. A 1646 rating and 402 arena points? We’re so getting our Season Three chest armor next week.
And we didn’t scream at the computer once!

Nice dude! I just got my Vengeful helm last night, so now I am full vengeful except for shoulders and weapon. 297 resilience now. w00t!

“One sapped us, we trinked, then the other sapped us, we Bestial Wrathed, we burned a rogue into the ground.”
This confuzzles me to no end. You make it sound like you used BW to get out of the sap, but every time I try to use BW while stunned/incapaciated/frozen/etc I get a ‘you can’t do that yet’ message. So which is it? Is BW a free trinket, or is my game screwing me over?
Or are you just BW as soon as you’re out of the sap? (That’s what I tend to do… but by then it doesn’t matter, as my pitiful 7800ish health is burned down by the time that effing kidney punch or whatever wears off.)

should we be worried that brk can now yell like tarzan*images the repetitiveness of an annoying tarzan yell*
/shudder
either way is there any trinket like that for the horde?
Stoop on 19 Mar 2008 at 10:51 am #
@Kame
Yes, the 2 minute cooldown version with some resilience on it goes for about 17k honor. I think it’s worth it.

Hey, BRK, I know nothing of PvP, but are you not a dwarf? Is stoneform not a free trinket as well? I never use it myself, but then, (thanks to someone’s videos) I never pull agro from my pet. Does stoneform work PvP?

Happy Birthday BRK!
I just found your blog and wish I found it sooner =)
I appreciate your friendly, thoughtful and informative writing. Thank you!
I took a break from WoW and recently got back into raiding, going BM raid spec for the first time (was MM for 90-95% of my journey from lvl 1 to 70). I feel like I have to learn how to play my hunter all over again.
I hate wading through the large quantity of e-peen and troll fodder in the WoW hunter forum, and find it difficult trying to apply the theorycraft on elitist jerks based on gear my hunter will probably never see drop.
I’m glad I found your blog ^^

Happy birthday BRK! And it’s my birthday as well. That’s the hunter’s day!!! Expecting Tsunami Talisman/T5 legs to drop today and to grab it all!!!

Happy Bday! Nothing’s better than having a winning session.
We went 8-0 and then had 5 games in a row against a Pally/Warrior Team! Ugh. Finished the night 9-4. managed to win one but basically they have to do everything wrong and we have to do everything right. I roll with a rogue.
that was a nice 10 set…surprised you didn’t get more resto druids/holy pally’s. Grats on your S3 chest!

Hey, BRK, I know nothing of PvP, but are you not a dwarf? Is stoneform not a free trinket as well?
Stoneform only removes/prevents poisons, disease and bleed-effects. So, no it is not “another trinket”, but in some cases it is better. It will protect the dwarf from all bleed effects a Rogue, Warrior and Druid can do, including Blind from a Rogue and Mortal Strike from a Warrior.

BRK!! Wait for season 4 for your chest piece! Trust me!! Brutal Glad awaits you!!
Doug on 19 Mar 2008 at 2:11 pm #
BRK not KoSing squishies to the exclusion of all else?
BRK blowing up whatever’s annoying his arena partner?
Is this the start of some teamwork specific strategies?
Did BRK just hit the next level in PVP?
Maybe they were right when they said wisdom comes with age
Happy Bday BRK!
MS? on 19 Mar 2008 at 2:52 pm #
It amazes me how many double DPS teams you guys run into. I wonder if that’s the lower bracket or just your battlegroup, but we see teams with healers probably 90% of the time.
“It will protect the dwarf from all bleed effects a Rogue, Warrior and Druid can do, including Blind from a Rogue and Mortal Strike from a Warrior.”
Does it still stop blind since blind was changed from a poison to a physical attack? And why does it stop MS? MS isn’t a bleed effect nor a poison effect.
vcproj on 19 Mar 2008 at 3:03 pm #
Good job!
We have gone on good runs before and also got run through the buzzsaw.
Luck also plays a part in what your record is going to be.
Sometimes you run into less than worthy opponents and go on a good streak.
But, sometimes you catch the diehard arena guys and get worked.
I’ve run into teams where the people are clearly playing on their alts. Then switch to their mains to get some personal rating…
We finally got into the 1800’s last week, but was promptly booted back down to the 1700’s when we ran into the hardcore players…

In terms of pvp, stoneform is a counter to rogues crippling poison (its actually better than a real trinket on this issue, as it remove the posion and keeps you immune for 8 seconds). Thats its main use, if there are no rogues about then you can use it for other things, such as against hunter snake traps or stings.
Learning to when to use the trinket is something that takes alittle getting used to (I still need to get better myself). The trinket just removes the effects that are currently on you, so, if your being meleed by a rogue and warrior, who are spamming hamstring etc, then the trinket will have almost no practical effect, all the effects will be back on you before you have gone 1 yard. Similarly its only worth using stoneform if its just the rogues posion that is holding you back, if there is also a warrior there spamming hamstring then it won’t do much good.
Personally I’d like to see an upgrade to the tinket, that removes effects and makes you immune to new ones for 3 seconds.

Congrats on tearing it up in arena
Hrog on 20 Mar 2008 at 6:54 am #
Gratz on the oh so nice streak there!
1 note on the Sap though. It does not have a cooldown, and the DR is counted between source and target, not just source. The probable reason they couldn’t sap Bela is because she went into combat by tossing a heal or something? ^^
leveling a hunter myself atm, just entered Outland using a BM-specc with just MM to fill to 20 points. Can’t wait to enter Arena’s, it hardly any fun on my combat-rogue
megan on 20 Mar 2008 at 8:24 am #
Sigh.
1) Stoneform doesn’t stop Blind anymore, Blind is physical.
2) Stoneform doesn’t remove Mortal Strike debuff, you must be thinking of Wound Poison debuff, which can stack 5x and be like MS with a 50% healing reduction. Which in some cases, it’s more important to counter Wound stack then Crippling as Wound in the long run will be harder on your healer’s mana.
3) It appears whatever BG cluster than Drenden does fall into, it has weird/odd 2v2 makeups at the 1500-1600’s—I mean he’s still facing Affliction Locks. After hitting 1600 on Ruin US, you cannot go 2-3 games in a row without facing a top composition and/or a Gladiator pointseller.
4) If you don’t have your PVP trinket (LVL70), get it, there’s no excuse. It should be the first thing you buy with Honor while leveling (pre-70 version), and one of the things to have all ready and waiting (pre-bought) for when you hit LVL70.
5) Happy belated, BRK.

I forgot that they changed “blind” in a patch, the bastids!

Megan, I thought that MS was a bleed effect and thus could be effected by Stonefrom? Was that changed in a patch, or was it always not a bleed?

I agree whole-heartedly.

Hey BRK, what bullets are you using?
megan on 20 Mar 2008 at 10:10 am #
Mortal Strike is not a bleed. You must be thinking of Deep Wounds, which is a bleed when the Warrior gets a crit.
Certain Warriors who go deep enough in Arms also have Blood Frenzy which is a 2%/4% increase from physical damage from all sources—this procs when either Deep Wounds or Rend is up. Stoneform would remove the bleed and therefore remove Blood Frenzy.

and yeah, you won’t find hardcore PvP-types on Emberstorm Battlegroup so don’t bother looking..
It just doesn’t happen =/

I guess I should do more with my Warrior so I know more about them. LOL
xanthelei on 20 Mar 2008 at 3:17 pm #
Seems my question about BW got lost in the shuffle, so I’ll ask again. Is BW usable while sapped or stunned or whatnot? That is what BRK is making it sound like he’s been doing… get sapped, trinket out, get sapped again, BW out, start killing Sneakies.
I know I can’t seem to BW out of anything like that, so I’m wondering if it’s just how he stated it that’s making me think he used it as another trinket. Cause if it IS another trinket effect… I need mine fixed!
@xanthelei on 20 Mar 2008 at 4:01 pm #
I don’t believe BW works as another trinket. I think he just mis-described it.
