Awesome job BRK. The videos are wonderful to watch and learn how a good hunter can improve his/her play.
Ratshag on 21 Mar 2008 at 9:44 am #
Hmmm… Is a 2 drink post. Maybe more, depending on what be in the movie, which I can’t watch during daytime.
pelides on 21 Mar 2008 at 9:51 am #
That’s pretty much exactly how we did it when I was back in Ni, the one difference would be that we would keep the sheeped Naga on the island sheeped for the entire fight. This gave the casters a little bit of time to regen some mana after the first naga went down.
Seeing you walk into the water as opposed to jump (like so many do) was good to see. I found early on that if I actually jumped into the water i would get LoS issues with Lurker and be unable to shoot him. Whereas, walking into the water kept LoS on him. Do that and you can pretty much dps the entire fight.
Great vid, BRK. Hopefully some people won’t have to struggle as much as my guild did to bring that oversized guppy down.
Reventrant on 21 Mar 2008 at 10:25 am #
Wish I could get an Earth Shield for Phoenix…how much did you have to pay for that!?
Lienna on 21 Mar 2008 at 10:26 am #
Looks very good, spout looks a cinch to avoid, I heard form a guild that a friends in that it kept wiping them, and even after practice it still usually killed a couple over the course of the fight!
Also heard that they made all the hunters get pets with ranged specials so they could still attack with poison-spit/lightning breath on lurker, and then they tanked the adds on the platforms, seemed like those adds were ranged only so anyone could tank them, far better to have the pets on lurker as normal.
Strange how seeing something like this highlights how clueless some people can be.
Savaget on 21 Mar 2008 at 10:51 am #
I was wondering why the other BM hunter in the raid is using a Scorpoid as a raiding pet. I’ve seen her using it on several other occassions. Looking at the report the pet did 60k dmg vs 142k that hobbes did. If she swapped out for a ravager, which ugly as they may be are the best raiding pets for BM in my opinion she could tack on about another 82k+ Dmg. She would be at #2 on the DPS charts nipping at your heels. Who dosen’t love a bit of competiton. Also I noticed your survival hunter buring mana using serpant sting.
Xanthelei on 21 Mar 2008 at 11:06 am #
Entertaining, BRK, as always. However… I feel I must note that your page has had it’s face melted by a passing Shadow Priest, at least while looking at it in FireFox. Should probably ask a Pally to fix that for ya, or somesuch.
Nick S. on 21 Mar 2008 at 11:15 am #
super awesome, BRK. /agree xanthalei, tho
i find the trap/sheep combo interesting. i usually get made fun of for sheeping hunter traps if my sheep gets broken/dotted/killed early. i mean, why force the hunter to keep jogging around laying traps when i can fire off a sheep in a couple seconds without so much as switching targets?
now i can tell my guildies “AC does it!”
Zaxxon on 21 Mar 2008 at 12:33 pm #
Nicely done. Just a few questions. What addon are you using to announce kill command on your screen? How are you gettting to 1k dps? I play a hunter on the Echo Isles server (Zaxxon if you wanna look me up on the armory) and was in SSC last night with our guild trying to do Lurker and even buffed with Kings, Might, an agi flask and agi food I was topping out in the mid to high 600’s if i recall correctly. I use a 1:1 shot rotation weaving in the occasional serpent sting and arcane shot. I think i was pretty much squeezing all the DPS i could. Is it a gear thing you think? Shot rotation? Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Cool.
* voice over got a little soft towards the end (around 6:30).
* The link is to a version called …small, is there a bigger one?
* I miss ‘BRK Worldwide Amalgamated’, perhaps a counter-coup?
Thank You Kindly.
BRK on 21 Mar 2008 at 12:59 pm #
Voice-quality is a major issue upon which we tried to improve. We were hoping there would be a noticeable improvement. Phooey.
There is no bigger version. The small one is 36MB, the big one would be huger than huge. Do you really need a bigger one?
We didn’t do BRKWWA because this movie is being dual-hosted on WoW Insider and they’re allow us to bypass the 90-day non-compete clause of our contract.
As for 1000DPS, check the WWS report and you can see what we’re doing, shot rotation-wise. Auto/Steady/KC is our basic formula for MSoSRDPS. And check our armory profile and compare it to yours. We’re in full-T4, some T5.
Kat on 21 Mar 2008 at 1:28 pm #
Very timely for me since we have just started going to Lerker. I have heard two schools of thought about the water. 1) you have to be under the water. 2) you just have to be swimming in the water.
Seen here BRK is in the water swimming. Do I hear right that you are still shooting from that position? If you are I imagine that casters can also cast in that position.
Thanks again for a great movie.

Thank you again and again for your wonderful site and content! I am glad you mentioned macrosin the vid…I have always been a manual player when it comes to the “rotation” and changing it as needed. So well put! But I tamed a Boar for fun and named him MeatBomb. And made what is old school I am sure pet attack/intimidation/ bestial wrath rapid fire macro and a pet attack/serpent sting macro. If your close enough the charge is like another projectile…hence the name MeatBomb. Knowing your senes of humor I thought you would like the name!

Thanks for the video! Why don’t you use a cast bar like quartz? I feel like it helps me get out more shots.

BRK~
Good video. I know you have talked about it in the past, but could you possibly put a little note as to what Hobbes is spec’d on that fight? I think that would be a good thing to see, especially if Hobbes is DPS’ing adds.
Also, if you are doing a “hunter” only island it’s not a bad idea to keep one pet on the island with you during the adds. If heals coming your way are light, dancing the pet on and off of the island mobs is a good way to keep damage off of you as those mobs have a tendency to beat on melee attackers more than ranged. You can always Eyes of the Beast it back onto “melee” island when you jump in for the Spout, you would lose maybe 2 seconds of DPS if done properly.
Thanks,
Mageskinner and Resisted

Looks like you’ve fully opted for the Claw only vs. Bite/Claw, BRK
I gotta look into now =/
macros:
if your latency gets ragged like mine, a macro is tons of help
if not, then you have the luxury of not ever clipping your autos
Auto/Steady/Kill Command
reset=3 ^_^

Good vid! Hey, I have one T4, some Pvp gear, the Steelhawk Xbow from Kara (the Huntsman) some random blues and purples, and I am hitting 850 DPS. Rather, we are, heh. We are pretty happy with that.

Love those BRK movies!
I’m glad to feel a bit more validated in my decision not to use macros for a similar reason (more control for the specific situation… not to mention it’s just more interesting and fun!) I do have to admit, however, that I do keep “The Macro” (you know the one) hidden away in my macros list just in case. I don’t like to touch it very often, but sometimes my connection will just be ridiculously laggy in the middle of some important boss fight and those are the times when I have to pull out the macro. Hurts to do it, though.

@Mageskinner
When I spec’d my ravager for SSC, Lurker didn’t really come into the equation for the spec because the only damage he does to the pet is physical.
Since we would take out Hydross first, I would spec Klaatu with the usuals, avoidance, cobra reflexes, gore, etc. and then I would get him 2 ranks of nature and frost resist and then whatever health and armor I could afford after that.
Seemed to work like a charm. Klaatu never died unless one of the main island adds got it in his head to attack him before getting to our roving melee death squad…. or the death squad didn’t get to the add in time.
Zahana on 21 Mar 2008 at 6:02 pm #
What add on do you use to get the laugh when you 666crit?

Actually I’m just wondering why hobbes is immune to the spout? I havn’t seen anything up to this point that would explain this phenomena..is it the type of pet that hobbes is or is that the case for all pets?
jumb on 21 Mar 2008 at 9:24 pm #
Cheers for this. I’m starting Lurker on Wednesday, so this couldn’t have come at a better time!
Xanthelei on 22 Mar 2008 at 3:31 am #
@RRogue
All pets are immune to the Spout effect. Similarly, all pets are immune to the Fire Wreath effect of Shade of Aran in Karazhan, and a few other things from various raid bosses. I think it’s because Blizzard realizes that if pets weren’t immune to certain things, such as FW and Spout, they would be wiping raids/dying far too often, costing more gold for Hunters in food costs and potentially costing raids more gold in repair bills. Just imagine if Flame Wreath came up unexpectedly first thing in the raid (and it’s happened to my group a few times!) and your pet is still running to start gnawing Shade’s face off… Without immunity to FW’s effects, it’s an insta-wipe, with no chance of recovery.
Then of course there’s the fact that pets are more likely to die than any other character in a raid (no heals unless you’re lucky, and you have to pay attention to keep them out of danger), and there is an entire tree based around the pet being alive… It would make BM a much less raid-worthy spec if pets didn’t get immunity to some things, simply because they’d be guaranteed to die on certain fights - like Lurker - and possibly multiple times.
Val on 22 Mar 2008 at 4:33 am #
Xanthelei, you got it, if pets weren’t immune to such effects, hunters as a whole would be less desirable,
think about melee tank/dps freaking on Gruul when shatter rolls around and there’s 5 pets next to everyfreakinbody, or in the case they get called back, that’s still almost killing the hunter
I could only imagine how aggravating coordinating “stay” commands during the flame wreaths =/ Who hasn’t run into people in groups that took them a couple times with “simple directions” ? Especially in this, our class…
/cast revive pet would have to make a journey onto my primary action bar if this were ever undone =/
Chromaoran on 22 Mar 2008 at 6:45 am #
Hobbes is “Aristocat” or “Sitta”?
Ataun on 22 Mar 2008 at 7:41 am #
@Zahana
Crit Alert gives the laugh when you get a 666 crit.
What I want to know is what addon plays the Horns when BRK becomes the target of a mob.
Xanthelei on 22 Mar 2008 at 10:01 am #
@Ataun
That would be the sound alert from Omen. I have mine set to war drums, since I’m more likely to notice it. Right click the Omen title bar, look for Alerts (or Warnings or something like that) and look for the sound alert option on the menu. They have some odd stuff in there.
Nice thing is you can set it to a certain % of aggro-holder threat, giving you an early warning system that’s audible. It can really help if you’re busy trapping, DPSing, keeping your pet alive and keeping debuffs/stings up on the main target all at once.
Mudge on 22 Mar 2008 at 10:49 am #
When phase 2 starts I see BRK drop a trap, target a mob for Hobbes, and then run back to the edge of the island to start taking on the island mobs. One of the Naga then goes past BRK and hits the trap. How does that happen? Why doesn’t that Naga agro on BRK?
BRK on 22 Mar 2008 at 10:51 am #
The nagas “go live” at specific points. They cannot attack or be attacked until they reach these points. Where we drop that trap is the point where that one naga “goes live”.
Ataun on 22 Mar 2008 at 12:26 pm #
Its not Omen. I use omen constantly. The horns is not an option, plus whatever BRK uses only sounds once when he gets aggro. Omen makes the sound non stop when you get hit and build more aggro.
Corwyn on 22 Mar 2008 at 8:42 pm #
Really, the voice over has been getting better, it was only in that section that I couldn’t hear without turning it up a bit. And it was just low, rather than fuzzy.
Bigger is nicer, but no, I don’t need it. Mostly, ’small’ implies ‘large’, and I was hoping.
Thank You Kindly.
Rotting Rogue on 23 Mar 2008 at 12:26 am #
to Xanthelei and Val
Thanks guys! I actually had no idea pets were immune to those kinds of things, but its kinda handy to have now that I think about it
Ygg on 25 Mar 2008 at 9:55 am #
BRK,
Could you be extra-special secret-sauce nice and provide a transcript of your videos? Normally, I’d try to zero in on the fracas and try to figure out what shot rotation and techniques you’re using, but since YouTube video captures of WoW are too blurry to read, a Deaf WoWer like myself cannot benefit from watching them.
A transcript? Pretty please?
-Ygg
Annai on 09 Apr 2008 at 10:56 am #
I know this is probably lost since the topic is so buried (3rd page), but I just wanted to say “Thanks!” to BRK for this video. I hit SSC last night for the first time and the video was much more helpful than any of the “hard rock” or “techno” soundtrack videos in describing what to do and specifically what a hunter should be doing.
Based on one of the above comments, as a “Thank You”, I’ve created a transcript of the video and I’ll e-mail that to BRK. He can use it as he sees fit.
Mudge on 01 Jun 2008 at 8:39 am #
OK … the first time we did Lurker it went just like your movie (after one wipe) which I attribute partly to my setting up the Hunters to handle things as you so nicely describe (and mostly to the superb work by healers and the tank). More recently we have not done so well. I have had to use less experienced and equipped Hunters so one island had trouble getting its adds down (not helped by the mage who insisted on using the “keep one add sheeped through the whole fight” tactic. The trouble is that the mage went down to spout and the add immediately took out a healer. My real problem is that my pet BearToo is getting killed by the whirlwind. This did not happen on the earlier success and I am puzzled at what I am now doing wrong. Comments anyone?
