/ahem

WE DEMAND THAT PETEMOTE WORK AGAIN.

Petemote is more important than mana.

Petemote is more important than Omen.

Petemote is more important than CT Raid Assist.

Petemote is more important than healers.

Petemote is more important than breakfast, the most important meal of the day.

Petemote is more important than beer.

YEAH, YOU HEARD US! BEER!

/flop-pout

We want Hobbes to playfully toss his food in the air before he devours it again. We want him to randomly growl at our raid members. The silence, oh the perpetual silence…

WE WANT HOBBES BACK!!

/sniff

If you or anybody you know has any pull with the Petemote developer, it is your Patriotic Duty to smack him right in the kisser and demand, DEMAND! that they get this cr@p working again.

SO SAYETH BRK…

oh gees, we can’t go on.

Edit: So the Petemote developer has commented on this post. First off, that rox our sox. Second, we found the problem thanks to his info.

Petemote 1.41 doesn’t even load on our iMac.

Petemote 1.4 works just fine.

/cheer!

Double Edit: “The problem with 1.41 is that the toc file PetEmote.toc, is called PetEmote0.toc, and that doesn’t work. it is possible that PCs allow this, the mac client doesn’t. If you rename the TOC file to PetEmote.toc, it works like a charm. Helfi and Humar”

So the update posted on 4/2 in the curse link doesn’t work?

  2. Lotos/Smoke on April 3rd, 2008 11:41 am

We have no problem with PetEmote, it’s working like a champ. I think it’s you, BRK. :D

  3. Felandra on April 3rd, 2008 11:42 am

Working here too… in fact I didn’t have it before. Now Flappy badmouths all kind of partymembers that don’t behave. :P

  4. Lotos/Smoke on April 3rd, 2008 11:43 am

PetEmote seems to be working just fine for us. Smoke is growling, purring and staring haughtily at people (editing random emotes ftw!) just as she always has been.

Here you go BRK grab yourself a new copy fresh off the site. http://www.curse.com/downloads/details/3538/ only a day old.

    From the dev:

Guess it’s time to give a short statement about the project and its future development.

I started this addon in September 2006. I never thought that it would result in something which i call a little community. Maybe I can be a bit proud of that, but this is not my intention. I think it started attracting a huge amount of interest when I first asked for more random emotes in the official forums.

Of course, I welcome that. It brings the project forward, it brings new ideas and possible features. And I am glad that others enjoy PetEmote as I do. (Wanna know what my bear Mad latterly does? Mad finds himself incredibly good. Is that funny in english? However, my mates like it. ;-) )

Anyway, I am surprised to find a version 1.41 today (why is a 2.4 TOC needed? There are so many addons out of date after a big patch, so you have to turn on loading old addons anyway). I hold that I launched the project – is it running out of my hands now? There are mods going round and guesses that I quit working on it. Hey guys, I’m still alive! I will continue working on it, but please give me some time to quickly get married and spend some time on holiday.

Don’t missunderstand me – I’m not angry. What I like to tell you is that bringing up a 1.5 is not easier for me, when mods and inofficial versions spring up like mushrooms. (How did that 1.41 come here anyway? Afaik I am the only developer who has access to the project page.)

So I please you – keep cool. There will be a version 1.5 and it will be bigger, better, faster, more. All I need is some time and your ideas and emotes. :)

  7. Bloodarrow on April 3rd, 2008 12:28 pm

I demand everyone in wow install this addon. It pains me to know that everyone else see’s “Bloodarrow’s pet” before my pet’s name. Any chance we can sneak this into patch 2.4.2?

BRK I just have to say this addiction you have to a virtual pet is starting to get abit much.

Seriously ease off the “Hobbes” thing for abit.

  9. Malok on April 3rd, 2008 1:05 pm

Ya know.. I get why you named your kitty Hobbes and I love it. But it would be way cooler if your toon was named Calvin. Anyone for a game of Calvinball?

  10. Schrodinger on April 3rd, 2008 1:06 pm

I disagree. Ease -on- the “Hobbes” thing. Can we get a Hobbes pin-up calendar?

I saw someone with this in the Aldor bank the other day and it took me a moment to figure out why someone was emoting their pet’s actions. Then I recalled the BRK endorsement.

I am sufficiently intrigued. Into the Interface folder with you.

  11. Weezoh on April 3rd, 2008 1:27 pm

I’m going to totally install this when i’m done with work.

  12. Rimar on April 3rd, 2008 1:30 pm

I have been using this addon a while now also. When I went to 2.4 patch, it continued to work without a hitch.

Classic are things like /pet <action..>

Once in shadow Lair in a new pug I had typed /pet barks loudly! (my pet is a kitty named Anubis) and one of the pugs was totally WTF? and surprised about it. Hehehe. Always the good conversation piece.

PetEmote and Omen2 are both awol….we do misses kittys snarls…I heard something about wiping my WTF folder, but not being computer savy I wonder if this is wise advice?????

  14. Helfila@executus on April 3rd, 2008 2:45 pm

The problem with 1.41 is that the toc file PetEmote.toc, is called PetEmote0.toc, and that doesn’t work. it is possible that PCs allow this, the mac client doesn’t. If you rename the TOC file to PetEmote.toc, it works like a charm.

  15. Corbella on April 3rd, 2008 2:46 pm

    Oh, Yeah!

My game play has been a desolate field of lonely silence. Mephesto tells no one that he would love to bite their face. He never asks to crawl, now…. We were deep in despair. There was a gulf of silence growing between us.

I can not wait to get home and update my add-on!

Danke, German developer person! You have saved kitty! Biter, Bitter, add more!

  16. TurniPete on April 3rd, 2008 3:11 pm

    I am so confused.

Will Ten PeteMotes make a Primal Pete?

  17. Asara on April 3rd, 2008 3:20 pm

    Funny thing..
I do not use PetEmote. I probably will get it today if I think of it though.

What I HAVE done is make a feed pet macro, that includes an emote of my own..
/e tosses Leshya some delicious Clefthoof Ribs! nom nom nom..

People for some reason say to me, isn’t that pet emote addon great? Or I guess there is another hunter “sounds” addon that I’ve never seen.. I don’t know. I’m not sure if I should be offended that what I thought was my own cleverness and hilarity is being proscribed to someone else, or take it as a compliment that someone thinks my emote is on par with the general cleverness of the addon.

  18. Avanina on April 3rd, 2008 3:24 pm

Elwendancer, delete whatever PetEmote you have in your AddOns folder. Either go through your whole WTF folder manually, or do a system search, but look for “PetEmote.lua” and “PetEmote.lua.bak” files. There may be a lot of copies, depending on how many characters/accounts have used PetEmote. This way, you don’t have to delete your whole WTF folder – you won’t lose all of your addons’ settings. This should give you a clean canvas for reinstalling PetEmote.

Just make sure to reinstall version 1.4, as BRK said.

1.41 was not created by Funny, the original author. It was made by someone who tried to take over, but really jumped the gun and did more harm than good.

  19. Wherefore art thou… pet-emote « Great Green Hunter on April 3rd, 2008 5:50 pm

[...] BRK gives us a solution for pet emote … maybe. I’ll give it a shot … because yeah – I have been missing it. [...]

  20. Avanina on April 3rd, 2008 6:35 pm

PetEmote ought to work just fine; Funny (the author) has removed the problematic 1.41 which was uploaded by someone else entirely.

If you don’t like checking off “load out of date addons” or want to add more phrases, view the comment I left further down PetEmote’s page.

  21. ailtia on April 3rd, 2008 6:56 pm

Okay…I downloaded the new petemote file..anyone know why it is not showing up in my addon list? I know that this is not a forum for it…but still.

    thanks

  22. Avanina on April 3rd, 2008 7:31 pm

If you are running 1.4, log out of the character and access the Addons window- look to the bottom-left corner of the character selection screen. In the Addons window, make sure “load out of date addons” is checked off.

Alternatively, you can open the .toc file using notepad (if you feel confident) and change the number “3″ to “4″ on the line that says “## Interface: 20300″.

If the addon doesn’t work when you have “load out of date addons” checked off, then there is a problem with the addon. My suggestion would then be for you to submit a bug report to the author.

  23. Pinky on April 3rd, 2008 9:23 pm

Is there a way to get your pet to emote more often?

Also when I feed my pet he never says anything…i turned on random emotes but the feed pet one dosnt work it seems…

BRK, I haz a story for you. And it would never have happened if not for your blog.

  25. WOW2B on April 4th, 2008 6:31 am

So… some unknown stranger uploaded 1.41 and no one has wondered if the 1.41 is a keylogger? lol…

  26. Avanina on April 4th, 2008 7:49 am

Pinky: You can add more random phrases, however that just adds more diversity. I am not sure about changing the frequency – you may want to leave a suggestion on PetEmote’s page. I am not sure about your pet never saying anything after being fed; you may need to leave a bug report. Make sure you’re using 1.4 – I have used that version since it was released and have had no problems, playing on a hunter and warlock.

WOW2B: the ’stranger’ was another addon author. I do not believe their intent was malicious. In any event, their attempt at fixing a working addon has been removed.

  27. wow2b on April 4th, 2008 8:10 am

I don’t doubt the 1.41 version was fine, just made me laugh when I realized no one had considered the fact that a mysterious file that appeared for no apparent reason may not be all it seemed. (1.4 was not broken)

WoW is plagued with keyloggers.. seems like this is why… people don’t take 2 seconds to verify their downloads.

  28. Avanina on April 4th, 2008 8:28 am

In honesty, when I first saw version 1.41 uploaded, I thought that it was by the original author’s doing just to update the TOC. I later realized, upon reading 1.41’s TOC (without installing the addon), that the version had been uploaded by another author who had actually uploaded other versions of their own “PetEmote” and “Pet Emote” on separate pages before this. This author was able to upload 1.41 to Funny’s PetEmote page because she had the permission set to an “open source” – though I can’t be more specific as I have never uploaded an addon there, myself. It certainly gave me the impression that it was Funny’s file; and there had been several hundred copies of 1.41 downloaded before it was removed.

I didn’t laugh, but I sure did frown at the whole course of events.

Of course, that other author has told me “boy, for someone on the “know” you have no clue do you?”

I suppose he is right – I have no clue as to why he’d take a working addon and mess with it, several times over.

That’s just the way the world works, I guess.

I used to use petemotes all the time. I loved it, sure the grammer and lines were absolutely TERRIBLE but I loved it nonetheless. My guild eventually ganged up on me and forced me to remove it halfway through TK

  32. Atali on January 24th, 2009 1:03 am

I love PetEmote. PetEmote does not, however, love my Succubus. All she does is manicure her nails! Try to add more, and the blasted thing stops working.
